Unwinding, you know I love Jekyll, but gosh! Yes he becomes partially horrified at Hyde's antics after a while, but the thing that really brings about his change of heart in regards to the matter is that whereas he was, in the beginning, the dominant personality who occasionally dipped his toes into the other visage, that balance shifted in the other direction with each change. So, as Hyde began to become the stronger of the two, it was Jekyll's fear of completely losing himself that at last motivated him to put an end to the transformations.
*sighs* So brilliant, so tortured...
Well, I mean, that's whether we're maintaining that Jekyll rings true to Stevenson's vision of the character.

Yes, yes, his reaction at the very end is nothing but human -- a struggle for self-preservation. That's what makes him so easy to empathise with. Most people on the brink of death would stop at nothing to save their own skins. Something I also find heartbreaking about him (more apparent in the book): Jekyll continually avoids lumping himself with Hyde, treating him as a separate entity altogether, unable to face the awful truth. From the songs anyway -- never seen the show -- I think Wildhorn's stayed pretty close to Stevenson's original story... but I wish he had've kept Utterson's name as Gabriel. It's so much nicer than run-of-the-mill "John". ("Gabe, I am close to the key to duality..." )

I know!! That was really heartbreaking because at one time or another we can all relate to the, 'I wasn't myself when I did such-and-such' mentality. *nods sagely* I wish they'd have kept Utterson's name as Gabriel, too. I love that name. I'm glad that they brought Henry into the foreground, though, instead of having the story told mainly through Utterson's perspective. I don't think that would have worked very well at all, although it worked fine for the story. Randomly, the parts where Jekyll's dialogue directly references quotes from the story make me squee. :-)!! I'd heard the stage production was odd, and deciding to satisfy my morbid curiosity, I found a video of the stage performance for J&H with Cuccioli (I believe). I was only able to watch a little bit of the transformation segment, and then had to stop because I was laughing so badly. Hahaha... oh gosh. Anywho. If we're to solely rank characters based on their merits and flaws, and not take personal tastes into consideration, I think Jekyll would come in third after The Captain and Gabby.

Aye, but if we were to rank characters on their flaws (or lack of) then Teen Angel and Enjolras should be duking it out while Erik and Hyde sulk about being booted out early. I think Gabby would be a little lower on the personal flaws level though. He's adorable but let's face it, he's a skirt chaser. The parts that are directly lifted from the book make me go, "Aww." I remember my first time listening to the Prologue I was squeeing too. Anthony would be able to make the stage show work but knowing his need for perfection he'd probably end up killing himself in the process. To act it convincingly, it's physically demanding, then take into account the emotional journey... it'd be even worse than Phantom. + Jekyll - Corky Erik - 66 -------------------------------- Eisenstein - 59 Jekyll - 52 Hyde - 15 --------------------------------- Captain Corcoran - 10

It was an aside, okay? An aside. I put a lot of thought into the rest of that post and all you lot could respond to was the bunny comment.
Notice how as soon as Sandy left, we got back into a serious discussion?

I did, actually. I've also noticed that you've forgotten Roy could lurk in any place on the site, not just his own thread. You just never know ...

So I'm growing a little complacent. I'm not too fussed if Roy knows my identity. I've behaved myself damn well on his forum and if he looks at the tripe I post here, that's his own fault.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHH! I spend all day saving lives (well, writing my monthly report on the lives we almost lost but saved due to our consummate skill, if we are being strictly accurate) and you take it upon yourselves to set upon my beloved Captain. I love him, I honestly love him! I'm shocked!!

There is nothing wrong with "Just Jekyll". In fact, I'd like him even more if he was just Jekyll and didn't come with his other side. >)_>
*sigh* I'm not gonna have the chance to squeeze in two posts today.

"Devoted" is a good thing, too! Not like your philandering Captain who'll "hardly ever" have affairs.
