Okay, I went and saw Guys and Dolls on Tuesday night and obviously couldn't help but think of how Anthony would have been when he did it. Was anyone lucky enough to see him in it? There is one scene, the Havana club, where there is dancing and just the thought of Ant in that role... dear god! Here is a clip of that scene with the London cast on youtube if you want to know what I am talking about: ClickEwan McGregor is in the role Ant did.

I saw Guys & Dolls some years ago, with an NZ cast and I found it the most boring looooooong musical I have ever seen. I also have the dvd of the original film with Marlon Brando, and all I watch are the songs Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat and Luck Be A Lady. I love both those songs, but just can't stand the rest of it. However, I found Cats to be totally boring as well!!! But - totally adore Phantom and can't wait to see it for the 12th & 13th times in a few days time.

I've also got the DVD; I think ... made for an interesting Adelaide. It's just a pity that the desired female voice of the times was so shrill.
((That vocal style is similar to the girl in Three Guys and a Girl or whatever it was, and it's been in a few other things I've seen from that era too; I hate the sound but it's interesting to sit through.))
Marlon Brando was a good Sky Masterson. He was so good at playing the self-absorbed gambler that there was no chemisty between him and ... ((Sarah Brown)) throughout, even when they were getting married.
And there's something about Frank Sinatra that irks me ...
But anyway, I would've loved to have seen Ant as Sky. I've seen that video of him singing Luck Be a Lady, of course, but it's just not the same. Of course, I personally can't stand listening to Brando sing it and I'm rather indifferent to everything else he sings in the film. Ant should cover Your Eyes, it's pretty enough.
The whole musical isn't exactly spellbinding but it has its moments. Grant that I haven't seen it live, but I don't feel inspired to.
((Same can be said for West Side Story for many reasons, but let's not go there.))

It's rude to carry on a conversation where no one else knows what in the blazes you're talking about!

Secret conversations seem to happen all the time in this forum, or at least conversations with topics only known to a few. Most of the time I haven't A CLUE what is going on!!! Even when I've asked I've been told: "You don't want to know" and that has been the end of it.
*giggle* Seriously, hanging out in this forum is like being at a party where no one else peaks English; you hang around anyway, for the food, smile politely if anyone makes eye contact with you, and join conversations with the kids!! (Backstage thread!!)
Still, I come back every week or so to see if I can make sense of anything!

Okay, okay, from now on if you ask I resolve to explain every little thing to you, no matter how atrocious. Just remember... you asked for it.

Don't worry, I won't ask. I'll just attend the party and hang around in the corner with my back against the wall.

BTW (Completely off topic) @ Marie-Cris - Are you aware on your MSN you accuse Roy of "scarring" you??!! If Anthony left an impression with a kiss on the cheek what on earth did Roy do to leave you with scars??

Wouldn't even have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Now - back on subject. I would love to see Guys and Dolls!! Some stupid twit (me) decided to buy a house, now I have absolutely NO disposable income so my trips to Sydney and Melbourne to see shows have all but vanished! Naturally, I want to only see Anthony on stage, but I'd be happy with any show at all at the moment. Though, in all honesty, I am planning on refinancing my mortgage next year so I can head to my home-state to see Phantom in Perth! I think that's as good a reason as any to refinance!
