Not sure if the news has filtered through yet, but Anthony won the Best Classical/Opera Performance (2007) Award at Tuesday night's Mo Awards in Sydney.

Thanks for that Jupiter. The Mo Award site is down and I've been trying to find out the results! There's been nothing on the news sites either. When I saw the nominees in his category I thought he might have a chance, but I think Jonathan Welch was in the same category?? He'd surely have to be a shoe in next year after the Sydney run of Phantom as well, as the Mo awards appear to be very Sydney-centric. If they're still going that is. There seems to have been some internal wrangling from what I've read!

Huzzuh! We'll have to congratulate him at the LSS. This is his second one, isn't it?

The Mo Awards site is back up so you can see the full results and the lists of nominees Here. I guess given that it was for performances in 2007 that Ant won best Classical/Opera Performance for Pirates. It's funny. I thought he would have been more of a certainty for the Male Musical Performer Category. I thought his competition in this section wasn't as strong as the Classical/Opera section. Goes to show what I know!! Still, as I said before, this was voted on before Phantom hit Sydney. And if you read through the list of categories and nominees you will see that as I said before, it's very Sydney focussed

Congrats, Anthony!!!
Yet I too think this is kind of interesting that he'd lose the musical theatre performer award and win the classical/opera one, considering the reviews he's got for Phantom and Pirates. If I remember it right, this is actually the first time he's won the MO award for classical/opera performance. He was nominated for classical/opera performer in 2005 but didn't win. But then, he won two year's MO awards for his performance of Phantom in 1990 and 1991, so maybe that made them a little hesitant to give it to him for a third time.
