Yes you are correct Jess that they can get nominations for touring productions or for productions that open in the season. The 2010 Season runs from 1 March 2010 to 31 May 2011. All the details can be found on the Helpmann Awards website. www.helpmannawards.com.au/default.aspx?s=eligibility

*sigh* We don't even have this new-fandangled digital tv thing... so we definitely can't watch that. Heh, we only ever turn the tv on when Anthony is going to be on it anyway.

I'm so lucky I have tickets for the Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The people at Qtix have been really helpful. When I booked the Saturday night there were no Premium seats left and then this weekend some appeared on the site. I emailed that I was disappointed that the seats I had booked were not a good as those now available. They sent me a reply offering to exchange my tickets to premium tickets (I have to pay the extra) for the same night or even change the night I had booked. How good is that. I've had to stick with the same night as I had already booked my flights.

I'm finally going to Zhivago tomorrow night. I'm super excited! I shall let you know what I think of it. Although, it's got to be amazing. My friend saw it in Melbourne ages ago and raved about it, so I'm excited that I can actually rave about it with her (and you guys!).

'Kay, so I saw Zhivago last night. I had really high expectations for the music and performers. Of course with Anthony performing, how could you not have high expectations? I'd listened to some tracks on the site and watched some footage and I was pretty impressed with that, too.
I had no idea what the plot was, though. I haven't seen the Zhivago movie or read the original novel. Really, the only reason I wanted to go was to see Anthony perform. My friend saw while it was in Melbourne (lucky her!). She came back and raved about it, so that seemed like a good sign. She did say that the plot was a bit confusing, though. I kind of freaked out a bit, 'cause it's obviously a massive novel with a complex plot and lots of characters.
But anyway, I got there and the lady in the lift said it was lucky we had come tonight. Anthony was sick on the weekend apparently. Did you guys know that?
Before the show I read the synopsis a couple of times and that really helped me follow the plot better.
I kind of found that the show started a bit slow and was a tad confusing at first until the characters became more familiar to me, but after that, it was just spectacular. I kind of liked how it started off slow and just kept building up. The show was like a cross between Les Miserables and The Secret Garden. The music was very Lucy Simon-ish. In other words, mind-blowingly beautiful. The acting from everyone was absolutely stellar. The emotion was palpable. The tension just kept building and building throughout the whole thing.
The whole cast was ridiculously good. I found myself really feeling what the characters were feeling along with them, and really empathising with them. It was really incredible. I don’t think it was like that even for ‘Phantom’.
And Anthony? Spectacular, as always. When I saw ‘Phantom’, I didn’t appreciate just how brilliant an actor he is. But by God, was he brilliant. The range of emotion was so beautiful, his voice was incredible.
I also kind of liked how there was a bit of plain dialogue along with the songs. I think it added something really special to it.
All too soon, the show came to an end. I was almost crying at that point.
When Anthony came out at the curtain call, he looked really quite emotional. It was kind of refreshing. I hate really plastic-fantastic stars who think they’re just that awesome. I really like Anthony’s humility, and even then, it shone through.
All in all, it was absolutely stunning. I cannot find the words to do it justice. It surpassed my expectations completely. It was absolute perfection. I am desperately hoping that I can see it again.

Just knew you would enjoy it. I can't remember a show that has had such an effect on me either. I just wish there was a cast recording to relive everything. Did you have good seats? Were about were you sitting? Hope you get to see it again. There maybe some special priced tickets if I hear of anything I'll let you know.

I'm paraplegic (wheelchairbound), so I had to sit in the disabled seating area, but they've changed it in the last year or so, so they're not actually too bad. We were right in the middle of the row. I have no idea which row it was, but it wasn't too far back. A few more rows forward would have been ideal, but I can't really complain, considering that the disabled seating used to be all the way at the back of the stalls. I got a pretty good view, so that was a big plus. When I saw Phantom the seating was awful and I could hardly see anything, so I was so happy to get decent seating for Zhivago. I could actually see faces, so that was nice.

Mazza, I know it's only Qld but it's timing and money restraints, Ants little Melbourne stint cost me a small fortune! . I would love to be there for the final show........sniff!

Phalanges Glad they have improved the seating. I can't understand why a theartre should ever be designed without good facilities for wheelchairs.
Poppy I was only joking. My husband is being driven around the bend by me. I've actually managed to get a long weekend in Brisbane on the pretext of booking accommodation for a trip were making there in October. I just happen to be able to fit in two perfomances of Dr Z whilst I'm there. I'm still hoping I can make the last night. Lambing has started earlier than we thought so I might be able to spare the time, I've just got to sort out the money. Anyone want to buy a few sheep or a cow?

Come on Poppy - flutter your eyelashes at your husband - he will give in straight away!! You know how much you want to see the final show. Only joking - I know what money restraints are like. I was talking to Erin today about getting another dog - there is a gorgeous one on the Dogwatch Christchurch website and she said to me: just get it - Jersey Boys won't be on forever and in the meantime you can always put it in a kennel for a few days when you are in Sydney. (I have used going to Jersey Boys as an excuse not to get another dog). I was going sniff sniff - I want Jersey Boys to go on for a long time yet!!!!

Just wondering, do you guys know if there are certain shows, like matinees or weekends or days that Anthony does not perform on? Just remembering from back during Phantom that he didn't really do the matinees later in the run.

Chauvelin, Anthony does them all unless he is unwell, considering he is on stage for most of the show more than Phantom I thought he would take at least one of the matinees off.......but he is amazing! I bow to his energy. When in Melbourne he only missed one or two days at most! Mazza, good luck with the lambing! I'll take a sheep and a cow for my Farm on Farmville! LOL (sorry facebook joke) Lynne, I have no lashes left to flutter, I fluttered too many times in Melbourne! Sucks when a show has to end!

I am incredibly jealous of all of you right now! If I had got my act together when I turned 15 and tried harder to get a part time job I might just have been able to afford a trip to Aussie.
I'm on school holidays now so I'm definitely gonna try read the novel.
When is the last show?

I am sure everyone in the theatre will be yelling and screaming. I still remember the gorgeous mask Anthony wore at the last show of Phantom in each city. I did try and make a mask the same with crystals but after I put a few rows on realised I would not be able to replicate his and so gave up.

His mask was very nice indeed! All those swarovski crystals... wish I had one! Maybe he will wear a sparkly russian hat for the final Zhivago.

Heh, sparkle sparkle.
BTW, for those of us who don't watch TV ((and who don't have Foxtel, or even digital TV)), do we have results on how Zhivago fared on the Helpmenn awards?
