Or - you could always go and see Jersey Boys!! But thats coming here anyway. XD According to rumours we're getting Wicked in 2013... after it finishes in Perth and then does an Asian tour or something. Wouldn't it be wiser to hit NZ before Asia though? I dunno. I'm not sure about newer translations, but I like how both Yury and Tonya are spelt with Y's at/near the end rather than I's.

Have just read this on theatrepeople.com.au - won't put up the whole page as it is all about different shows but I found this when I was searching for Jersey Boys.
"Doctor Zhivago is closing in Brisbane on August 14 for a minor facelift before touring internationally. Anthony Warlow will obviously not be touring with the production as he is playing Daddy Warbucks in Annie."
So looks as though it will be opening in London or Broadway (if that's what they mean by internationally).

I hope they mean Broadway. I might be going on a trip to America to visit family in New York around April next year. I would absolutely love to see Zhivago on Broadway, if it meant I got to see it at all.

Not quite sure where to put this, but I went to Sydney one day last week to see The Threepenny Opera, the cast of which included three of the Dr Zhivago cast – Lucy Maunder, Luke Joslin and Johanna Allen. It was a really fun show and about as different from Dr Z as it would be possible to find! And I think I spotted Bartholomew John (Viktor Komarovsky) outside during the interval.

Oh Cynthia - didn't you go to see Jersey Boys while you were there? No, I thought it would be nice to see the three doing something completely different. It was just a day trip which is possible from here if you do a matinee, and saves the cost of accommodation. There are quite a few things I'd like to see in the next few months so rationing myself a bit.

I did see an ad for the The Threepenny Opera. No chance of getting there, unfortunately, I would have liked to see Luke Joslin in it.
(I may be a bit of a fan of him.... obvious, no?)

FredusLucy Maunder was also in The Threepenny Opera - she got some great reviews, too. So there's a few connections with Anthony through DZ. She's got an amazing voice - I'm certain she'll go a long way...

Yeah, but if I'd been able to see it, it would have been mainly for Luke that I'd go.

Decided today I'd be quite partial to them bringing this back ... like tomorrow! Everytime I walk past QPAC on my daily afternoon walk I remember how mesmerised I was by this great production. Anyone else feel like I do?

mazzaSo glad it's affected you the same way. It's grabbed my heart like no other and won't let go. I ran into Peter Carroll (Yurii's adopted Dad in DZ) a few times at Brissie's South Bank when he was heading to his play "No Man's Land" in the afternoon after DZ had finished and it was great catching up with him and talking about it. He said it was the best cast, especially being so young and enthusiastic, and so very talented - everyone of them . Sooo wish they had made a DVD or at least a CD with the Aussie cast because the songs were so stirring with lyrics I wish I'd penned myself! Would listen to them every day if I could. Great to share with you, Mazza. Someone after my own heart...

jemasjottings - I envy you being able to walk around South Bank each day. I just love it there. I was in heaven when Phantom was on at the Lyric Theatre. I stayed at Rydges and walked and walked around South Bank. It never ceases to amaze me how some shows get DVDs or CDs made and others don't. I was reading somewhere about Love Never Dies being recorded for a DVD. What about Phantom, Jersey Boys, DZ - why some and not others? And mazza - I have to say it- yep Jersey Boys is coming to NZ but it is not going to be the same without the original cast!!

@ jem There are times I miss this show so much it's like I've lost a very dear friend whom I will never see again. I can't remember any show having this sort of effect on me.
@inj Is this how you feel about JB?
I feel positively cheated that I couldn’t buy a CD or DVD of this show. We are still getting new likes on the wanted page 3 months after the show closed! See, we’re not the only ones who feel like this.

mazza - You ARE after my own heart!! I know exactly how you feel. I wrote a review on QPAC's review wall a few months back and in it I said "I feel as though I am grieving the loss of a beloved family member now that it has finished its run. I miss sitting in a darkened theatre & being transported to a Russia of long ago." Every single day I STILL listen to "Now" and "On the Edge of Time" - It's like something inside me draws me back to them and it's as though they nourish my soul - sounds crazy but it's true. Like you, I have never been so affected by a show as much as this one. @inj - Yes, I live across the river from the Gallery of Modern Art so everyday I walk over the Kurilpa Bridge and up to South Bank, through the rainforest and then back - AND listening to 'Now' and 'On the Edge of Time' on my iPhone as I go! It's great to unwind after work in my own little world with Anthony and Lucy seranading me! And I get lots of smiles from the people I pass as I sing along with them... Yes, I noticed that the wanted page is still popular - I must admit there are several DZ related pages I still visit every day. It was THE musical of all time. I'm afraid Phantom has now gone to second place, although it held first spot for over 17 years - shows how much DZ means to me! AND, I must say, it's great to have others who feel the way I do and be able to keep it alive, even if it's only by sharing on here, every now and then. Thanks both of you

Wow... DZ must be really something for you guys to be talking about it so... tenderly? I would have loved to have seen it. They even advertised it here in newspapers and magazines in the 'Whats On in Australia' sections. "Hey Dad, lets go visit your family in Victoria!"
Miss Saigon kinda got me like that. It was technically an ameteur production, but they performed it at the Civic, and the cast were SOOOO good you'd think it was a pro tour. Just the setting, the characters... Schonberg's score... the show took me on a journey. It wasn't sickly romantic, nor did the special effects owerpower the story. I loved it! And yeah, it puts PotO in second place. I really hope Zhivago has worldwise success.

@tori - It sure was - and from what I've read in comments on so many reviews and Dr Zhivago pages on Facebook, it has affected heaps of people the same way. I was even speaking to a woman at work after I'd seen it the first time and when I described how stirring the score and lyrics were, and the amazing portrayal of such wonderful characters by such a brilliant cast, she literally started crying just from my description. She didn't even have to see it for it to affect her. I saw an interview last Monday night on 'A Current Affair' with Michael Crawford, and he said the following (talking about the first time he heard the theme from Phantom): “Andrew Lloyd Webber ... he played an already recorded overture and I heard” – (Michael sings the opening bars of Phantom) – “Daaa, da, da, da, da, da, da and I thought - this is the Phantom’s theme going - and I stood and I listened, my head went down, my hair stood up on the back of my head, my shoulders rose, and I – and I – it was like somebody’s – somebody had possessed you. It was – it was the most extraordinary feeling.” Here’s the link to the full interview if you’re interested: aca.ninemsn.com.au/celebrity/8371091/michael-crawford-fighting-for-his-life#commentsHow he describes hearing the music from Phantom for the first time is exactly how the music from DZ affected me – and I’m sure others will say the same – it was mesmerising and I felt like the music had become a part of my soul ... and it still does every time I hear it. I really hope you get the chance to see it one day, especially with at least Anthony in the role of Yurii, but hopefully with the full original Aussie cast as they were wonderful – absolutely embodied their characters and their diction and passion were superb. From the sound of it you live overseas – come to Australia when it’s on next – we’re really nice people and we’ll treat you well!!! And you'll be blessed out of your socks by that wonderful music. And it sounds like Miss Saigon was the same for you – don’t you love how certain music captivates you I certainly agree with you in hoping that DZ has worldwide success – it deserves it! Cheers ...

I'm 1/4 Aussie myself. My Dad's father emigrated here from Buningyong (sp?) in the 50's. And 'here' is New Zealand. So I'm so close... but so far. I've never actually been to Australia but we were planning to visit my uncle in New York. We're not in a position to afford it, so a trip to Australia is now on the cards.
About music that is part of my soul... theres this one particular motif in Miss Saigon that I just love, whenever the little boy comes on stage. It's incredible.

Theatre People have a review page where they are wanting the public to rate professional musical theatre productions and Dr Zhivago - A New Musical is listed at the bottom of their page - just its location, not where it's sitting in the ratings! You can also add your own comment at the same time. www.theatrepeople.com.au/reviews/professional-theatre?term_node_tid_depth=2On the "People's Rating" column just run your cursor across the stars to chose the rating you'll give it and then click on "Read all users reviews" and it'll take you to where you can add your own comment. Such a great show is worth our votes, I reckon!
