Here's an interview with Anthony on Alan Jones' radio program about Warlow's Broadway debut: linkAnthony can mimic instruments too! Anyway, he better not stay over in NY for so long that he returns an old (well, much older...) man or we'd have to capture him back (this will make more sense once you listen to the interview). Thanks for the link! Great interview, though my heart missed a beat when I heard that he turned down Follies. I saw Follies last year and enjoyed it. Now I couldn't help picturing Anthony in that role.

Antlove he will be gone for a year...and no he isn't doing anything here first. He is finishing the Melbourne run a week or so early, I guess he is jetting off soon to get familiar with the Yankee cast! *cries*

Just out of curiosity, how many people are going to Anthony's final performance here?

Jayko, Scuffa, Mazza, Cynthia and Anne-Marie and I will definitely be there (with another friend of Jayko's who I don't think is on US) - middle front row seats!! Woo-hoo ... and ... boo-hoo Then we'll all sit around in our hotel room bewailing the fact that he's leaving...

Ah ok, I had a sneaking suspicion that it'd be people on here who had so rapidly bought out the front row centre seats. I'll be in the second row so I'll be sure to say hi. It will be sad won't it?

Oh, great - can't wait to meet you - and congratulate you in person on those amazing drawings!!! And yes, so very sad.... extremely thrilled for him but can't imagine him not here for so long. Hopefully he'll come back - but if you listen to that radio interview it sounds like he's imagining he'll be over there till he's an old man Noooooooooooo... He's going to be a busy man from the sound of it. According to his radio interview he's flying out on Tuesday after the final Melbourne show, arriving in NYC on Tuesday, getting over jetlag till Friday, making contact on Saturday, Sunday off and then rehearsals on Monday (and then turns into a very old man with an extremely sibilant inflection!!). Hits the ground running and hardly comes up for air...

I'm sorry to hear that Poppy. Hopefully you'll be able to see the show again before Anthony goes.
jemasjottings - Looking forward to meeting you too! I'm really hoping he doesn't intend on staying over there for so long. It'll be pricey to venture halfway across the world just to see him perform...

Sounds like a fair few of you guys are going; hope you all enjoy it! And Poppy, I'm glad you're going to see it again, even though it won't be the final show. Make sure you find a way to catch up with him or something. He actually does a perfect American accent. Have you guys got the cd? Oh, I almost missed this, sorry! Yeah, we've got it. Maybe it was just the car speakers, or my shoddy iPod, or ... me ..., but there were times when I thought I could hear him slip out of the accent. I know he can do it - we've seen it in Eisenstein - but for me I thought it wasn't as consistent as it could be. Again, could just be me *shrug* Maybe - if we end up going - hearing it live will convince me otherwise.

I feel like I should crash a chandelier or something to announce myself... I feel exactly the same way about his final show and will be joining in the post-show boo-hooing. Seeing his performances has become a ritual. If he ends up doing Zhivago on Broadway I'll definitely have to cross the ocean to get a Warlow fix. Can't handle the thought of him settling over there.

Ooops - sorry, unwinding. I didn't realise that was you. Feel awful now - maybe I should just go and bury my head in a burrow and hope a wombat pushes me in Yep, Zhivago will definitely be on my agenda if the money allows wherever it plays with him in it. Talking to Luke Joslin last night he said the reworking - and it is a BIG rework apparently from what he, Lucy and Anthony have said - is definitely happening for the overseas shows and that MAYBE, just MAYBE, there will be another rerun over here when it's done. Here's hoping. Although both Lucy and Luke said last night that they thought it was perfect just the way it was - and I fully concurred. We were all very sad it's being changed so much.

No need to feel bad! I didn't announce it until just now so it's my own fault for lurking really! I feel like a bit of a creeper though because I knew who you were thanks to Jess. I don't know about Zhivago. While I adore the cast, the dialogue sometimes felt a bit lacking and the story could've been tighter. It also doesn't help that I'm not a huge fan of the Zhivago character (from the original bookverse at least. The musical made him more sympathetic!) The music itself is wonderful though. I could happily listen to it day in, day out. So yeah, mixed feelings on my part, but overall I enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see what they shuffle around. I just hope they don't cut any of my favourite songs, which is probably too much to hope for since I love nearly all of them! Also, it would be nice if my Soviet crush had a bigger role (i.e. the guy who stumbles around muttering, "All valid workers must be injured... validly...".)

Whew! Thanks To add to your bit there about shuffling around etc. When I was talking to Luke Joslin - Liberius, the "junkie" partisan - he said originally his contract had his character with a much larger role - it was actually cut to about a quarter of what it was originally written (including two solos being cut out - one of them entitled "The Glories of War" or something like that). Apparently the role was supposed to be portraying a soldier who loved the glory of war, which is why he was so passionate about following Strelnikov. It was cut probably because of the length of the show already, but he was very disappointed which I can fully understand. (This probably shouldn't be in this thread but because of our discussion above I thought it followed...) Yep, I like Jamie Way - the shuffling comrade - love his and Annie Stanford's little jig! And like all of them he's missing it terribly and wants it to come back...

Yeah, we're wandering a little off-topic but just to add... I remember watching a Zhivago audition snippet where Luke had been offered the role of Liberius. It showed him singing something like, "what is wrong, what is right". I always feel bad for actors when their roles get downsized.
But back to Annie... I'm so glad I'll get to see it and Anthony one last time. Is anyone planning on leaving him farewell flowers or something?

That sounds like a great idea, the flowers that is. Perhaps we could all chip in and organise flowers for him...? Not sure how to get them to him though...have them sent to the theatre? Or mob him at the stage door... Thoughts?

Flowers sound like a great idea! If I was doing something like that, I'd try to get them to him before the show starts - providing the "must sign in at stage door" routine is still in play for Annie this time ((anyone know?)) ...
... that's what I'd do. Yep.

Saw the show for the first time in Melbourne on Friday. Little things have been changed, as Anthony is known to do, but still a great show. Sitting in front row you can really see his eyes sparkle... Also not sure why but Luke Joslin looked directly at us a couple of times. I have only briefly said hello to him once so I hope it was just a coincidence and not because he recognised me from sitting in the front row of Zhivago quite a few times!!

Antlove - his last performance is Sunday 5th August - matinee performance. Then he heads off to NYC on the Tuesday. I don't know exactly which nights he will be performing - if its anything like his other shows, he seems to have a show off every now and then. Hopefully you'll catch one of the ones with him in it. Jakyo and I are front row booked for this Thursday and Friday nights thanks to her generosity and quick fingerwork with bookings - hopefully he'll be on both nights. And hopefully Luke Joslin is playing Rooster again on one of those nights - he was fabulous in that role in Brisbane's last show.
