Wow Tori - off to Uni next year - thats great. Doesn't time go fast. Before you know it you will be at work somewhere and perhaps married with children.
Its Spring at last, but for the last two days we have had a polar blast of weather. It was only 6 degrees here yesterday and I have never felt so cold. We couldn't get the office warm no matter how many heaters we put on (it didn't help that people kept going in and out and letting the cold air in). There are daffodils everywhere and even some lambs around on the farms, although my daughter hasn't got any yet. She is not sure if she will get any either as half of her sheep have disappeared. We can't work out where they have gone, perhaps onto the farm next door, and if that is the case then that farmer has probably got them in his freezer by now. He is a nasty piece of work and anything that strays onto his land is gone! The last big storm bought down some fences and they are his and he hasn't bothered to repair them so far.

I thought it had become summer for awhile there, but we've gotten back to the cold... for at least a little bit longer! Which is awesome, as heat really isn't my kind of thing. Inj, that sounds awful about your daughter's sheep! Can you talk to the police or something? It just sounds simply vile for a farmer to nick off with someone else's animals.

Haven't been on in a while, things have been busy.
But I just got back from Wicked tonight and wow (okay the musical version of the story is still kinda meh and the ending made me mad but MY GOODNESS it is such a good production). Most definitely the highest quality production I've ever seen, makes even Phantom look very dated. The poor bloke playing Fiyero was having a bit of a bad night but overall the cast were pretty fantastic.
I had almost forgotten what it's like to sit in a great theatre completely enthralled by a professional production.

Glad you enjoyed Wicked Tori. I see that Dion Bilios, who played Frankie Valli in JB at The Civic, is part of the cast.
I have just had a notification from Showbiz that Annie is coming to Wellington and Auckland next year - with the English cast. Don't know what that would be like, but I won't be going. I have tickets for Strictly Ballroom the Musical in Sydney in May. I am dreadful - just can't help myself but if it is anything like the film it should be good.

You don't like the Wicked ending, Tori? Having read the book, I think the musical's storyline is about a million times better.... it closed up all the plot holes that made me furious with the book.
Strictly Ballroom might be cool to see, Inj! It'll be interesting to know how similar it is... I used to love that movie when I was little, but I haven't seen it for so many years now that I can't really remember much about it.

I feel the exact opposite Fred. I absolutely love the book... and the subsequent two (haven't read the fourth yet), and a lot of plot holes do get filled eventually. I guess with a musical you're limited to a 2 1/2 hour show, and therefore you have to adapt the plot a bit. You wouldn't go into Wicked expecting the Philosophy Club scene much in the same way you wouldn't go to Phantom and expect the torture chamber.
It's just... they were meant to die damnit.

Really? I ... read the book, expecting a lot, and finished it disappointed. Plot holes probably isn't the best way to describe it, but I kind of feel like there was a lot of potential and it didn't seem to get there, or I didn't feel like it did. The musical seemed neater to me, even though it's obviously compressed. If the book was an expanded version of the musical, I would probably have read it dozens of times already, but I haven't picked it up again since the first time.... which, for me, is pretty unusual. I always re-read things.

I have just been watching my DVDs of City Homicide. I love Australian tv programmes, we never see them here (apart from the obvious ones like Home & Away, Neighbours, A Place to Call Home. So I buy them off DVD Orchard or from JB Hifi when I am over your way. For some reason every episode of City Homicide makes me cry!! Anyway the one I was watching tonight had John O'May in it. I have never seen him in anything except Phantom, so I enjoyed watching him. And apparently one episode still to come has Stephen Mahy from Jersey Boys.
I hope you all have a very happy New Year and also hope that more members will start posting here again.

There's a fair few programs that make me cry too, Inj! Though not all are necessarily Aussie. I always cry at the end of Blackadder. John O'May! Awesome! I guess if I watched more TV ((aside from none at all )) I would've sat down to watch that! And ditto, Inj! With Warlow coming home next month ((so very, very close to home)), we might get a few more people coming back. I'll definitely want to hear the various thoughts on Opera in the Alps.

Sorry I've drifted away for so long! I should be back more regularly again now... it was many because of NaNoWriMo. Have you all heard of that? I'm pretty sure I mentioned it last year ... hehe, new year's day today ... year before last year! Anyway, it's pretty much a self-competition to write a 50 thousand word novel in a month - in November, to be specific. Which I did! Sort of. Well, I wrote 50 thousand words, but the story still has a lot of writing before it's finished. Anyway, it was awesomely fun, but ever so time consuming! I hope everyone had the bestest of Christmases and an awesome New Year! Things were pretty good here. And, Inj, I've never actually seen City Homicide! I've seen ads for it, but somehow have never seen it... well, partially because we don't really watch tv, as Marie-Cris said, but I generally manage to see snippets of things while visiting family!

Like Would I Lie to You. I'd turn the telly on for that! I don't think I've actually shared happy news here in a while, so here goes: A few months back, my local theatre company declared auditions for an upcoming production of Phantom of the Opera. Those who have my FaceBook know all the doubting I went through to even attempt an audition, as I haven't really sung anything in 2 years. Well, I auditioned anyway, and waited, and waited, and waited. There were already fears for the life of the production from the audition workshop, as they'd said that if not enough men auditioned then the show wouldn't go on. So I waited, and feared, and waited. I'd promised not to get myself worked up over the possibility of being in Phantom, but, as always, I got worked up. I can't help it! When I go into projects like this I go in full-heartedly ((or fool-heartedly)), which makes rejection and failure all the more harder to brush off. Anyway, one night I got a call from someone in the company asking me about my e-mail address as my e-mail had apparently bounced. ((Not sure why, as I tested my e-mail later and it was receiving messages fine.)) She then said she'd try my e-mail again and call back if there was an issue. About 5-10 minutes later came the call, and she asked me if I wanted her to just tell her the news instead, rather than "expecting to hear that you've got a role" via e-mail. The usual type of speil. "Thank you for applying", "so many talented people auditioned", "unsuccessful at this time", "wish you luck on your future endevours". She asked me then if I still wanted the e-mail of it or if I could take her word as the official word. As I was close to crying, I chose the latter. Half an hour later, I was beginning to get over my tears, with Fred's help. Unexpectedly, my phone rang; it was her again! She told me tha 5 people's e-mails had bounced and that they had all been rejections, but one, and she'd been frantically trying to work out which was the acceptance, and realised it was the person she'd called. You are now looking at a Phantom of the Opera choruster.

Mar I'm so happy for you, you'll be fantastic! I wish Claire & I could come to see you but probably not able too! She's still at Uni & has been offered work in the hosp. while she does her final year of Midwifery... so she won't really have any time off this year at all, but she loves it so much she doesn't care!

That's okay Jazz, we'll run into eachother again at one event or another. And I'm glad Claire's liking her course! I wouldn't be brave enough to do something like Midwifery.

We were midwife to one cat and it's scared me off the thought of it entirely... Claire's brave! But I'm so glad she's loving her course - I know that the last time I saw you both, she was getting very excited about it all!

Hi Windbelle Thought I'd put a smile on your face. I received your wonderful YouTube video of "The Secret Garden Rehearsals (1995)" this morning in an email - fabulous, thanks! Seeing I've been communicating with Lucy Simon for quite a while now because of my novels I sent her a link in an email in case she hadn't seen it before and she replied straight back with the following: "Dear Jeni... ...What a joy to see this. I forwarded it to Anthony. Many thanks for your continued support. xxxLucy" So there you go, now the man himself has a copy!!! I'm tickled pink for you

Forgive me for my prolonged absence, everyone. Full time uni student/part time job/legal adulthood/all that jazz. Just stopped in to say hi to the forum. I haven't really been following Anthony or anything to do with musical theatre really, and there are a few reasons for that.
The biggest one is I am purposely avoiding shows to save money. I've booked a trip to Canada later in the year to visit my best friend and it's blown a gigantic hole in my savings. So I can do without the temptation. I've seen most of the musicals that interest me already, and also managed to see some of my favourite bands live over the past couple months. My need for live performance is somewhat satisfied.
In other (also travel related news) though, I'm coming to Australia for the first time next month! My grandfather is originally from Ballarat, so my family are taking him and Nana back to see his family before he's beyond travelling for good. We're flying into Melbourne on the 15th, spending a couple days there, then driving to Geelong apparently in time for the annual family picnic our relatives have every Easter. Dad's also thinking Grampians and/or Great Ocean Road so it looks like we'll be getting a decent amount of sightseeing under our belts. My only concern is my grandparents handling the roadtripping. They're in their 80's now. Still, it'll be fun. And not in your summer.
My new passport arrived today so now I'm just excited! This year is looking great for travel. But how have the rest of you been? Who's still around?

I'M IN WICKED!... sort of. Hear me out. After spiralling into the depths of depression and anxiety for the past few years, Wicked becoming available to amateur theatre prompted me to get back into singing. I auditioned and failed miserably, but have been given the chance to perform as part of the offstage ensemble; like stealth singers, if you will. Whilst I will not be visible, I still highly encourage anyone who will be in Albury in May to come along and see the production and support our local talent. If you purchase tickets before midnight tonight and use the code LOVE you will get $5 off! Better hurry and book soon, as tickets are defying gravity!

Well it’s been a minute. Hope your shows went well Mar.
In all honesty I just remembered this site existed. Glad to see some recent activity.
In my last post I was first year of uni, off to Aussie for the first time. During that trip my dad actually admitted he named me after our home state, but unfortunately I’m a generation too late to get the passport. It was really interesting connecting with family I’d never met and getting to know the land. My grandfather only lived another two years so I’m very happy we went. I also went back to Melbourne last year, as well as up to Sydney and the GC. One day I’ll come over longer term but I’m not in a rush.
Uni got done almost two years ago. Got my BA and am now a teacher. It’s a bloody hard job but the good days are amazing. I’ve also seen Phantom twice since my last post. The Canada trio happened and I went down to New York and saw it on Broadway when Norm Lewis and Sierra Boggess were leads. Then two years back I got to go again to the Civic and see a VERY well funded amateur production and it was honestly fabulous. Less ornate set but it worked so well. All I need now is to see it at the West End and I think I’m done. I can’t say I still love the show or musical theatre the way I used to, but it’ll always have a place in my heart.
Hope everyone is well.
EDIT: I don’t even recognise my username... the one I remember is tori2210 and thought that was what I was logging into... I used my email to do so. Weird.

Sounds like you've been super busy and having a lot of fun Tori! Welcome back! I don't know why I didn't announce this sooner, but I am in Avenue Q! For legit reals, an actual on stage performer in Avenue Q! I'm so lucky to be working with the cast and crew at Revolution Theatre Productions, we're working hard and having fun bringing the famous puppet/human street to The Cube in Wodonga from March 21-24, 2019 (shameless plug is shameless, tickets on sale now!). So if you like puppets and having a roaring good time (and you're 15+, adult themes included), please come along! You may even see a certain Filly-Aussie playing Japanese-American, Christmas Eve
