Well, you've been sick on and off for long enough - you just need to hold off on the getting better thing until Annie hits Melbourne. Also, I am sorry you're sick again. And Macca's WiFi sucks.

I know we are not supposed to do another post when no-one new has posted, but I think this needs saying-
Wellington did not record a single hot day in the cloudiest summer on record (a hot day being over 25 degrees). This summer was absolutely dreadful, I didn't even put away my winter clothes, I was still wearing polar fleeces and jumpers most days. It has been cold and windy and wet and today is just ghastly. We have this weather bomb that has been affecting Aussie and we have torrential rain and gale force winds. I have lost a tree from outside my garage door, I have a polar fleece on and a Kathmandu jacket and I am still freezing. I don't like extreme heat but a few days around 20 or 22 would have been nice. If the summer was this bad, what is winter going to be like.

I do remember them putting ropes across the street in the middle of winter when the winds were a'blowin' - for the pedestrians to hold onto as they crossed the roads! Not something found in other capital cities, I'm sure! Hope it gets better before the real cold sets in.

Inj, it's been like that here in Melbourne too! It's been raining non stop the last couple of days, and the wind chill is unbearable.......no wonder I keep getting sick! Today, we are having about 5 minutes of sunshine!

Do you think it has something to do with global warming? There have been so many chest infections going round, whooping cough etc. I am sure it is because we just haven't had any sun and people need sun to build up their immunity (or so I believe). Perhaps that is why you can't shake off your sickness Poppy. The sun did come out for about 15 minutes this afternoon but the wind didn't stop and it is icy.

Poppy, my daughter moved to Melbourne in November and since she's been down there my baby grandson - 16 months old - has developed a bad chest infection and had to be on Ventolin through a spacer ... desperately wishing they'd come back up here to Qld.
Hope you get better soon - that normally bald man who on several occasions last year had a head full of hair might have something in his little black bag to give you a miracle like he once (on several occasions) did for Janko XD

So my initial vent seems very marginal and small in relation to earthquakes but I've never seen Warlow in concert- as in 'A night with Warlow' or something along those lines. I don't even know where to find out about when these things happen or what he is up to! It seems that he is bound for the international stage - which is GREAT but ...does this mean i have lost my chance? I don't know if anybody has mentioned it here- but KONY 2012 - what do you guys think about it? Personally i was that person in history class that wanted to change the situation or would have wanted to help change the situation but didn't know how. The video is aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging those who feel passionate enough to write to their government. I can't see a problem with this in my opinion - it beats sitting in silence or passing it off as somebody else's problem. Yet all over Facebook and when i talk to friends they seem to have the 'it's a scam' 'we can't do anything' or 'it's not a problem anymore mentality'. Now I'm quite open to research etc but i just haven't come across anything that convinces me to sit back and do nothing when i can use a tiny bit of my time and resources to help! What do you guys thing. If you haven't seen the clip it is worth watching - at first iw as skeptical but stick it out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5SqcForgive me for bringing up politics- but it just gets to me when people are happy to sit back rather than try.

Hey antlove - good question re KONY 2012. I'd like to add my two bits' worth into the mix as I personally have friends caught up in the midst of it all and my daughter has been over there volunteering with hundreds of the kids that have been rescued from it. It's as bad as you've heard - and actually much worse - with little girls as young as 5 and 6 being taken to be "wives" of the soldiers, and boys not much older given machetes and guns to go on killing sprees with the threat of their own families or themselves being killed if they don't. Apart from Invisible Children who are assisting them, there is an amazing Australian woman, Irene Gleeson, who has recently been given the Order of Australia, who runs several orphanages and schools with over nine thousand children now - she schools, feeds, provides medicine and tertiary education to them - not just the kids who were taken but any children who have lost their parents or been abandoned. We actually support two of them - similar to World Vision child sponsorship and it's $35 a month per child. Just thought I'd add that in case anyone is interested in supporting them - and about 85% (I think - don't quote me but I know it's the greater percentage) is used solely for educating and feeding the children, while the rest is used for admin purposes. She was divorced, aged in her 50s and went over there in 1991, living in a caravan in Kitgum, North Uganda after selling her Sydney beachside home. She then sat under a mango tree and taught 50 war-torn kids how to sing again - figuring that it would nourish their broken spirits, as music so often does - and she also fed them. Now she has 5 schools, a hospital, a hospice for kids with AIDS and HIV and other diseases, as well as a radio station and is affiliated with several churches that also provide assistance. Here is a link to the website so you can see everything she's doing if you're interested. www.cks.org.au/Hope that helps a little with your query - I think she's wonderful and I'm so glad to be a small part of helping two little girls realise their potential after going through something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Cheers

So my brother and I have been reading posts and reports etc while i'm still totally keen - we are wondering and wanted me to ask if it is ongoing? Does Kony still have an army is he still active is all this still happening as far as you know? Do you think the whole Kony2012 mission thing will be successful or cause more damage (in your opinion). Thanks so much for the link and info i'd be totally keen to support that - it sounds like she is doing such wonderful work.

From what I've heard the army (or at least parts of it) is /are still active although he's out of the country now - hopefully running for his life. I think I heard he's in the Sudan or Congo. The kids who have been rescued are still traumatised, as I'm sure you can imagine, but with the help of a few organisations they're getting a new chance at life. But they still need a lot of help.
Here's a link to an article from April last year saying that they are now in Sudan and Congo - just found this on the web as I write - and from what I've heard from Irene her schools are a lot safer than they've been for years. Up until last year she was having to sleep in a different part of the compound - and often out in the bush - so the LRA couldn't find her as they hated her so much because of rescuing so many of their kids. I believe there are still rebels factions up there but I can't say for certain where the army actually is. They've always been on the move wherever they are - taking villages and then moving on to the next. I certainly hope that it helps - I think drawing so much attention to the plight of the kids has to help - even if only by having people foster the kids so that they can be educated and grow up to be successful citizens to help rebuild the nation. Thanks for taking an interest, too!

I get really angry the way show tickets are sold. I plan to go to Brisbane to see Annie. As we have family there we wanted to visit them at the same time. The QPAC site offered tickets up to the end of April. Then a further week was released to the 6th May. We wanted to go for the weekend 12th & 13th May as our relatives are away before that. (Stay with me) If you check out preferred seating they are selling tickets up to 13th May but QPAC site still only shows up to 6th May. Now if I want to pay way over the odds I can get tickets for the 13th from preferred seating but they are not very good seats being further back than I would like and I’m sure seats further forward will be released nearer to the date. QPAC did the same thing with DRZ. I bought tickets for the end of July then they released seats, which were far better then the ones I had purchased. I must admit when I complained they did agree to change the tickets. By then they had announced the extra two weeks and they even offered to change my tickets for a different date. This wasn’t must good to me as I had booked flights. The upside to all of this was that I got to go back to see the show two weeks later. I’m sure it’s the same everywhere but it is so annoying when the whole system is turned into some sort of lottery.
There I feel much better now.

@ mazza - It sometimes does you good to get on your soapbox! I find it can be a good catharsis ... and often makes me sleep better! Hope it works for you! I'm hoping to get along to Brissie as well - thanks for the reminder to check out the seating

Mazza it is totally annoying. I have got a ticket to see Jersey Boys in Brisbane (only one ticket so far as I wanted to make sure to get a good one for my birthday so I went through Showbiz - ouch) and will now have to wait until Ticketmaster releases the seats for August sometime in the future. I also wanted to go and see An Officer and a Gentleman in Sydney on the way to Brisbane and they are only selling May and June. I emailed and asked if they would be extending the season till August and got the reply - we don't know, watch Ticketmaster. I can perhaps understand AOAAG as I have heard that it is not selling particularly well so perhaps they will not be extending the very short season. Same with Moonshadow - only being sold till first week in July. It is so frustrating because I can't grab any cheap flights that come up.

What is more annoying about the Annie situation is that they must be having the extra week as they are offering seats on preferred seating. They are selling well for the performances they have released through QPAC. I suspect they want to sell out as much as possible and then offer the extra week to get people to go again. Or tempt people with the “Last chance to see” “extended by popular demand”. Where as is they offered everything at once people would probably only book once or not at all. I think we have missed the flight offers. I only hope that they send an email to announce the release of the last week in advance as they did that for the previous release.

Not really a vent - more a warning.
Went to see "The Rum Diary" with Johnny Depp, expecting a bit of his tomfoolary seeing it was classed as a comedy/drama/romance. WORD OF WARNING - boring boring boring! I can honestly say it has to be one of THE most boring movies I've ever seen.
That was a waste of a gorgeous Saturday afternoon - oh, well, my Atlantic salmon and salad for lunch at Fasta Pasta was delicious so that made up for it!

Thanks for the warning Jema; I don't mind Johnny Depp but sometimes I don't feel like going out of my way to see his films.
I'm mainly sad about this one. I thought I was going to have big angry rant, but thinking about it, I'm just sad.
On the 28th February, we contacted Centrelink to get onto Newstart. After waiting in line for half an hour to get to the greeting desk, they told us to go home so they could call us to discuss the matter. On the 5th of March we both had our phone interviews, but unfortunately, there was something wrong with the Centrelink computers that day, so while we spoke to someone they couldn't actually ask us anything important, and told us to come in for a face to face interview. We did that, and there was a big fuss with Fred not having a seperation from work certificate, which we didn't know she was supposed to have and her bosses had never told her of such a thing, so we had to get Centrelink to get them to fill out the form. They said once that was done the cases would go through immediately and we would start reporting and getting money.
2 weeks of silence later, Fred went in to query why our claims were taking so long. Turns out Centrelink hadn't done a thing about it since we saw them, and we have to wait until the 12th of this month before anything does happen.
With my casual rates and reasonable hours, we're not starving, thank goodness. The bills are being taken care of by Fred's folks, since it's their house, and all we need to pay for is food and board.
Unfortunately, with the hour or so trip to work for each of my shifts - most of them lasting only 4 hours - our money goes to food and petrol. We haven't been able to set anything aside for board yet, and we're hoping that once we get Centrelink we'll be able to do so. It will most likely mean that all of the Centrelink backpay we get will go straight to board, leaving us where we are now.
Scraping by each day.
Fred's brother was right; getting a dog this early was not financially sound. But as we couldn't bare the thought of spending 6 weeks in a big empty house all by ourselves while Fred's folks are in Sale for their motorhome rally, we were compelled to get company. Neither of us regret it, even if it is pulling at the purse strings a bit.
And this entire entry is leading up to the fact that because of our lack of finances, I'll be unable to keep a promise I made to Fred. I promised that once we moved out of Adelaide we would be able to save enough to get her to see Annie, as she loves the show to bits and has been excited about the prospect of seeing it since it was announced. With the days rushing by and our situation ever constant, I fear I won't be able to do even this.
There is also the worry about my father. Some of you know he had a bad turn last year. When we made up our minds to move, we had the intention of saving some money to make sure that if something happened to him I would be able to go back to S.A. to be with him.
So ... I'm scared.
