*adds to son's pleas* Don't do it, Hugh!
Here's a good one: if it was between Hugh and Gerry, who would you pick?

If i had to, in the unlikelyhood that no-one else in the world could sing/act it would be hugh....PURELY for the fact that he can actually sing/act!BUT i would still advise him strongly AGAINST doin it..

Hmm. I might say Gerry simply because I wouldn't want Hugh to sully his reputation like that.

Hugh is another gorgeous Australian - I watched Paperback Hero on dvd a couple of nights ago. First time I have seen him (apart from gorgeous photos in magazines), hopefully not the last - but as everyone says, NOT IN THE SEQUEL.

I don't know, having Hugh in the production might make it watchable. Especially if it sabotages it by dipping into The Boy from Oz

Hugh could make it watchable, but I'd have to agree with the others. I am sure if he did it, his reputation would be a little worse for wear.
If Gerik did it, it would give me the defining reason of why I would never go and see it. If Hugh did it, I would be tempted to have a peek.
My biggest problem is that they're setting it in America. Why America? It doesn't give off any romantic connotations whatsoever!

I can just see it now.....right after particularly moving scene that had christine in it, he breaks out the maracas and dances around singing a new song to the tune of Copacabana..

Was just enjoying some good old morning veging and nearly had a heart attack when I was reminded in a news story that ALW is attempting to ruin Phantom. I have a sudden headache....

I had two agents come up to me yesterday saying there was going to a sequel to POTO and wanting to know if I was excited. They didn't seem to like the answer NO!

Good gravy.... but it's a sign of something wicked coming when our version of Manhatten is isounding nfinately better in plot and design and entertainment value than the actual article....

No, not of that. The only way Sandy's getting into one of my sketches is - possibly - if I ever finish the CAKE one I started last year' ((I found it then lost it again ... need a place for all my sketches)).

I am NOT going to jump out of a cake, even for the sake of art! On the other hand, I may end up covered in icing and someone close by may be tempted to lick it off. Maybe the idea has merit after all!

Another article about the upcoming sequel, this one telling how ALW's releasing the show in three cities simultaneously: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28426152/For extra laughs, originally the line that reads, "And the Phantom, who disappears at the end of the original musical..." was, "And the Phantom, who perishes at the end of the original musical...". Someone must've picked up on the fail.

granted i don't take much notice of this thread because I too cannot stand the thought of a sequel, but who do you think he has his eyes on for the role of Phantom?
That latest article says they have someone particular in mind

The only pre-established musical role i wish to see Hugh tackle is Billy Bigalow, should they ever actually do a film remake of Carousel.
