Welcome Kylie and Jayco. Great to keep sharing the Ant love. Yeah, that Phantom sure gets addictive. I've got tickets for a couple of more shows including the last performance but will have to start saving to go to Sydney or Brisbane. I will be suffering withdrawals for sure. Great to see Kylie someone else loves budgies. I have one called Jericho who is an absolute nut case but my friends keep telling me it is the company he keeps that puts him around the twist.

Well Goodness Groceries (to copy a famous person). You go to work at midday, finish 16 hours later (you do the maths - yes dear readers that's 4 in the morning) and while you've been birthing babies, blasting kidney stones with a laser and fixing broken arms and legs, new people join and the petition almost doubles in size!!!!!!! Welcome Kylie and Jess. The natives appear fairly friendly on this island of Antness - more Ph-Ant-asy Island than Lord of the Flies really. Went to sleep when I got home this morning for a couple of hours listening to Ant on the ipod. Apart from being jet-lagged and nauseous today at work from lack of sleep, mood has been fairly benign. And I'm usually vicious after a long shift. May have found the solution to world peace. Just pipe Ant music on loud speakers to every nation! Can't be any less successful than what George W has been trying!!!!! Going to bed now. Screen is blurry.

Well, allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Jen, but in this world I go by MuLo - short for Music Lover!! I am "30-something" and my day begins and ends with music and musical theatre. I am well known amongst my work colleagues for my catch-cries: "Anthony is my reason for getting out of bed in the morning" and "if Anthony were to sing the alphabet, I would fly to Sydney to hear it!"
I live in Cairns now, but was born and raised in Perth. Unfortunately, being raised in Perth means that I have watched Anthony's marvellous career without being in the audience very often (most heartbreaking!!).
The Main Event was my first opportunity to see Anthony live (After my "Back in the Swing" tickets were given away in a sheer act of martyrdom!!
All that has changed now!! Living in Cairns I am but a cheap Virgin flight from the cultural centres of Australia and I have spent the last few years making up for lost time! I work only to support my theatre habit! I am also on a first name basis with Max at Middle8 records who keeps me well in touch with new recordings (of course, there is nothing that I don't already have!).
So, I look forward to becoming a part of the family here and meeting some other Warlovians with an unhealthy addiction such as mine!
Cheers MuLo.

Nice intro jen. Welcome to a fellow nurse who is a music theatre tragic!!!!!!! Silly me, I just read that "you were but a cheap Virgin" and thought "hmmm, so am I" before I read the rest of the sentence!!! I greatly admire anyone who works in palliative care. Very emotionally and spiritually demanding. I'm an op theatre girl and I re-charge with music too. My work is as demanding as the real theatre, but we don't get curtain calls and standing ovations!!

Thanks for the great welcome, everyone. I can see I'm going to have a fantastic time here!
sanderella59 - I love my Palliative Care nursing but it is very emotionally draining. I lost three in two days last week (which is a lot for a small rural hospital) and I can honestly say that I don't recall my head hitting the pillow on Sunday night. It really does take everything out of you. You are so right about no curtain calls or standing ovations.
I was at a show in Brisbane recently (or was it Sydney? I've lost track). After the show I was talking to some friends who included the wife of one of the performers. In the foyer we were approached by David, still in his dinner suit and straight from the stage, where he joined our conversation. Strangers kept coming up to him and asking for autographs, photos etc which he was very gracious to acknowledge. These people kept telling him how great he was and how wonderfully he did his job etc.
After they'd gone I said to him - "No one ever tells me that I am great, or wonderful, or done a fantastic job!!" Not that I would want to trade roles, I don't, I just find it interesting that David has the opportunity to earn a living by doing something he loves and also receives accolades for it. I earn a living doing what needs to be done, I receive frequent abuse and have been at the receiving end of some pretty nasty violence - again, no standing ovations for us!!
Still, at the end of each shift, we all leave together and we all thank each other for a great day. Group hugs are not uncommon and our coping mechanisms often involve each other at the end of the phone. I am very fortunate to have the workmates that I have.
Sorry. I've waffled too much. My fingers are faster than my brain. I will go now!
Thanks again for the welcome. I like it here!
Cheers MuLo

I couldn't have put it better myself Mulo! I love what I do passionately but most of my audience is either unconscious or sem-conscious and have no memory of the care and effort we lavish on them and the energy we expend to get things right every time. Relatives don't even see what we do either so no-one ever says "Well done today". The only place we ever get validation and unconditional positive regard from is each other. One of the reasons I love singing and being involved backstage of productions is the buzz you get from applause and the look on people's faces when we have entertained. It provides a balance. It was interesting today. I had an admin day and I was in the main theatre glassed-in office writing reports and watching the preparations of all the staff for the beginning of the operating day (5 theatres) and I had a sudden flash of inspiration. The reason why we call it a theatre is that it IS just that. There is the buzz of preparation before the curtain goes up, the testing of the machines which is like an orchestra warming up. There are the backstage crew, the stage managers, the bit players, the ensemble and the stars, and every day is like a performance without the luxury of things going wrong because the consequences of us "fluffing our lines" or "missing our cues" as it were are dire and in many case life-threatening. We can't afford the luxury of a "bad show". And we do 20 sold-out performances a week with added on ones at the end of the day if extra patrons show up unexpectedly! Outsiders watching us work have often commented on the precision choreography of the operating team but it only struck me today just how theatrical the whole perormance is!!!! And I've been working in both forms of theatre for over 25 years! Only take me that long to work out the correlation!!!

Hello, I am Tamara and I am a big fan of legitimate and talented theatrical performers (hence joining this site!) In addition to loving Anthony Warlow as a performer, I am also a big fan of Phantom Of The Opera. I think it is my favourite musical theatre production and I have been lucky enough to see it in a few different countries. I am so glad it came back to Australia Here's hoping we get an Australian recording!

Ok, now that the boss isn’t here, and it is after hours here at work, I’m gonna copy Jen and write out a better and more comprehensive introduction.
*Ahem*
My name is Kylie Chappell, and I am a Warlow-holic. I am 29 years young and my birthday is April 1st.
*Glares evilly at anyone who decides to laugh*
And I was a female last time I looked. . .*looks down top, looks up and grins* Yep, female!
Waits for the giggles to die down*
I Live in Glenroy in Victoria, Australia, and I have been married for almost 7 years (December 16th 2000), to a GRAVEDIGGER of all professions! Neither of us have any siblings.
I am about 155cm tall, and weigh 65-ish kgs. Not too bad I suppose. . . .
My eye colour is hazel, and my hair colour is auburn, and no, it is not dyed. . . . I could show you, but this IS a family board, is it not? *grins* And I only have one set of piercings, in my ears, and no tattoos.
Scars? What Scars? *looks* Oh, yeah, THOSE scars. Lets see. Born with congenital heart defect, surgery @ six months of age, resulting scar from under left breast to middle of back, around left hand side.
* 6 years old, more repairs on the heart, resulting in a zipper down the front, and my initiation into the ‘Zipper Club’.
* 8 years old, more repairs. By now they realise the heart can’t take much more, but transplants on kids were as yet unheard of in Melbourne
*10 years old, bilateral hernia (both sides). Met Michael Sofoulis, first ever heart transplant done at the Royal Children’s Hospital
* 13 years old, heart finally couldn’t take anymore, resulting in cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Transplant in early 1992.
Since then, NOTHING CAN STOP ME!!! *LAUGHS EVILLY*
Favourites:
Colour: Teal
Drug: Morphine! Try being on that stuff for 5 days in ICU. . . .
Body Part: Eyes
Band/Singer: Anthony Warlow, Simon Gallaher, Status Quo, plus all my stuff I sing at church (mainly Hillsong)
Holiday: Usually Hervey Bay in Queensland – the in-laws live up there, so we always get free accommodation Other Stuff:
What do I want to do for a living?: Acting, and also medical research
What do I really do for a living? Technical assistant in Dept of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology @ Melbourne University – in other words, I’M A LAB RAT!!!!
What turns you on? A beautiful song sung from the heart, with emotion.
What genre do people think you fit in: Musical theatre, country, Christian
Have a crush on someone? Well, I’m kinda married . . . . XD
Three words that describe you best: Gentle, Loving, Compassionate
Any pets? All of my little feather-babies, all 22 of them! Well, soon to be 23, as I am adopting a little creamino budgie!
Would you rather get laid with the person of your choice or find 100 dollars?: Again, I’m married, so I think the question is irrelevant . . .
Hobbies?: Photography. Musical Theatre, Ten-Pin Bowling, Square-Dancing, Singing / Karaoke (By the way, I will be at Coopers in Exhibition Street on Friday night!)
Ok, I think that is a little more comprehensive. Any questions? Just feel free to ask!
*Scampers back to the lab looking for her secret concoction*

Kylie, very informative intro Surprisingly this isn't Anthony related nor music related, but I'm actually interested to hear more about your work! A lab rat you say? lol what kind of work do you actually do around the lab? I'm currently enrolled in a biomed course at Melbourne Uni and it's that time for re-enrolling and choosing subjects. It'd be good to hear about what your work involves! By the way, your medical history sounds very impressive! (PS to any admin, sorry if this isn't the right thread!)

Kylie, i have to ask, seeing as you mentioned Hillsong (though this only semi-related) - are you a Brooke Fraser fan, like me? I just adore her songwriting skill.

Post by kyliechappell on Nov 20, 2007 22:57:27 GMT 9.5
Yes, not Anthony-related, I know, but my intro all the same! lol
Hey there gizelmo.
Yes, I'm a lab rat, I basically set all the chemicals and equipment for the students enrolled in second year science. We used to be the Maxwell Lab, but now we have moved over to 4 West in the Medical Building on Grattan Street. We Also cater for a subject for the biomeds, so if you are doing second year, you'll usually see me pottering around the lab, running through stuff to make sure things are going to work.
You see me at work, and you'll see why I love Jekyll & Hyde! Get me at work, and I am in my element!
And yeah, because of the transplant, I've been here almost an extra 16 years, and you definitely learn to not take anything for granted.
And Hi to you too, neh.
I'm not sure what Brooke Fraser has written, I'll have to go back to check my songbook sheets and find out! I just like the songs that I sing (Hosanna is a 'killer' - I am NOT a soprano! I wish!)

Amazing story Kylie. Just goes to show that it proves my theory that EVERYBODY has an interesting story to tell, it's just a matter of taking the time to find out what it is. I admire your attitude, but have found that it is quite common to those who get a second chance at life, something our man Ant points out quite regularly. It kind of gives you a different perspective on things and you tend not to sweat the small stuff so much because you realise there are bigger things out there. And what a vulnerable age to be dealing with such a biggy as a transplant! I admire you greatly.

Regardless of your discipline in nursing - and we both know that it is so broad that we will NEVER cover it all - it is a universal truth that without the well-oiled teamwork and choreography the system would fail. We simply can't do it alone! Your very cool analogy applies to other fields of nursing as well, aside from OT. I'd love to see them run the show without us!
And HI!!! to Tamara. Glad I'm not the newbie anymore.
Cheers MuLo

Kylie, I haven't ventured as far as the med building labs as of yet, but next year i'll be in my second year, so perhaps i'll get to see you around! and Jekyll and Hyde does makes chem seem so much more cool, not that chems not cool, in the most non-nerd-ish way possible... so do you set up for bio or chem pracs?
