I should have done this as soon as I made the site. No matter; it's here now. Please keep track of this first post as alterations can be made without warning.
1) PLAY NICE. This means no flame wars, no racist, sexist, hurtful comments, et cetera.
2) NO PM ADVERTISING. No one has done it here as of yet, which is a good thing, but even so do not PM other members promoting your site. We've got a special section for promotions. USE IT.
3) POST COUNTS. This is a little tricky, so I've broken it up into sections.
- a) NO ADS TIL POST COUNT OF 50: This is a common rule on a lot of forums I have seen/been a part of and it makes sense. I let slide this rule at the start and as you can see there hasn't really been much in the way of other site's advertising, but even so if you're a member and you want to promote your Pink Floyd fan site or whatever, at least be a regular member first so we can get to know you. This means you should at least INTRODUCE YOURSELF in the appropriate thread so we can get to know you better. It'll also help if you make a contribution now and again to at least one of the random conversations on the board, but there's no rush; I understand that some members are shy and/or have difficulty with the English language, so take your time and gradually slip yourself in. You're quite welcome here. Oh, and it's still all right to advertise your site in your profile, but keep in mind not to make your signatures so big that they stretch the page or cause problems for people with dial-up. I won't set a specific pixel size and so forth because I'm not as a*** as other forum runners ((who chuck a wobbly just for having a signature that's one pixel out of their preference size -)_- )).
- b) VIP LOUNGE ACCESS AT 50 POSTS: This means that until you reach 50 posts, you will not be able to access the Member's Only section; it is up to you to contact staff when you reach this amount. The post count was raised to 50 after the 2nd Birthday Bash (April 1st - May 1st) to tighten security, but I shall excuse some members from the new system, keeping them on the old system of 25 posts.
The members exempt are:
- aliiak
- awfan84
- bandersnatch52
- cirque
- darlia
- janelle
- jtbridg
- mhoshiko
- mischiefmaker
- motherlove
- omarington
- paradox
- phantomsphriend
- teena4mcdsaw
- thisbe
These people have posted at least 5 times before the 2nd of May since they registered. Everyone else I haven't mentioned has either surpassed the post counts or had not posted at least 5 times before the 2nd of May.
- c) CUSTOM TITLES AT 500 POSTS: This means once you have reached 500 posts you are entitled to a custom title, should you wish for one. Those exempt from this rule are members who already have custom titles; everyone else must reach 500 before receiving their own ((and then they must tell me what they want their title to be so I can add it on to the profile)).
Taken custom titles are:
- Instigator of the Dirty Warlovian Mind
- Keeper of the Scrapbooks
- Official Cake Bearer
- Revolutionary Leader
- Warlovian Director
- Unexpected Song's Fundraising Co-ordinator
- Serial Anthony Warlow Requester
- d) MEET DORIAN AT 1000 POSTS: Due to Dorian's recent stresses, the post count needed before you are introduced by a staff member to Dorian has been lifted to 1000 posts at his request. This does not effect your chances of gaining access to the VIP Lounge. To lift some of the weight off his back, there are no longer exceptions to meeting Dorian ((it was 50, moved to 100 after the Birthday Bash and had the same exceptions rule as the VIP Lounge access rule)), bar the fact that there are those who have met him already who have not yet achieved 1000 posts ((this was before this alteration)). From now on, you must reach 1000 posts before you can be introduced.
4) NO DOUBLE POSTING IN A TWO-DAY SPAN. That's cheating. I've let one person slip by for double posting but I won't any longer. The two-day span means if you've posted in a thread but you want to post in it again but no one has responded to your post, wait two days. If someone hasn't responded to it after two days you're free to post right after your last post. However I recommend that you MODIFY your post instead so then you don't have to wait to add news you've forgotten and so forth. I know we all have double posted in the past but at least we've let a day or two pass before doing so, so now I'm just making it clear that it's TWO DAYS to wait. THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS are the birthday thread, when wishing members a happy birthday; and archive / storage threads, like My Friend Dorian and the threads in hidden boards made specifically for storing graphics et cetera.
Crime and Punishment.
Decided to set a certain limit and outcome so the staff can easily keep track of the DP's, so here's the crime and punishment:
- a) 5 DP warnings via posts = one month bearing warning on profile.
- b) 3 DP warnings following a) via posts = 2 months bearing warning on profile.
- c) 1 DP warning following b) via posts = 1 month suspension from site.
Any following DPs will be assessed should they occur and the punishment decided via a staff meeting ((may include offender)).
5) NO PORN / ADULT CONTENT.
NO.
There isn't anything on here that can count so much as adult content - what I mean is, we have a bit of fun with our fandom, but there's nothing extreme so far - and we must keep it this way. There are users younger than 18 here, after all, and this is meant to be a safe environment for all. Fan-girling is fine, yes, go for it, but don't go overboard. And if anyone's still wondering, no, there are no nude shots of him and even if there were I wouldn't advise posting them here.
6) NO BOTTING. I'm serious. If it's a guest-bot, the IP gets banned. Botting under membership gets your account disabled PERMANANTLY, including an IP ban.
7) NO SPAM. I'm drawing the line and eliminating all spam posts, including the pictures of tinned meat. If any new spam posts are made, I will not take kindly to them.
I can't really think of anything else drastic enough to be restricted. If there's anything else, just reply and let me know
If anyone is caught breaking these rules ((punishment for botting is under its heading)) they will get ... umm ... forced into a private conversation with me. And as if that wasn't bad enough, you'll also have to explain why you did what you did and why you don't think you should be punished for it. If you can't talk your way out of it I'm gonna have to stamp my foot down and ban you for a week. Do it again and I'll ban you for a month. One more time and you're gone for a year'.
I doubt things will get that serious, but hey, at least you can't say I didn't warn you.
PS: UNSPOKEN RULES:
1) Go nuts.
2) Have fun, particularly when acting out UR 1.
3) No High School Musical beyond this point ... Now before someone has a fit, let me explain. A vast majority of the people here don't like High School Musical and it'd be a rather rare case for anyone here who thinks of themselves as a Warlovian to also be a fan of High School Musical. I know it's not impossible, though, so I only ask that those who like it shouldn't try to convert those who don't like it into liking it, and those who don't like it shouldn't intentionally pick fights with those that do. We have had discussions on it in the past but it's mainly been about how much we dislike it due to majority preference. I've seen how High School Musical has caused heated debates on other websites and it's gotten rather ugly at times; the safest thing to do is just to keep talk about it to a minimum, or non-existant from now on. I'm not saying you should like it or you shouldn't like it ((personally, I don't)), I'm just letting you know that it's a touchy subject.
4) You know how people tell you not to eat or drink near the computer, yet you do it anyway? It's probably best if you observe that advice when on this site; the casualty count for spilt teas and so forth is growing rediculously long.
5) It's okay if you like Gerard Butler as the Phantom; just don't try to convince me and others who disagree to like him in that role. You'll only be wasting your breath.
6) No l33t. Period. ((Unless belittling the custom or explaining what it means to someone who doesn't know.)) And I know some people "tlk liek dis on da net - HEY wat u gt thar?!!!1!?!1!?!?!1ELEVEN?" - but seriously, keep it to a minimum. I don't mind the occasional "u" and the accidental "i" but on the whole, looking at a whole post of ^ THAT makes me want to vomit. So don't do it. Or try to cut it back.
7) I don't mind the occasional swear because I was practically raised on swearing, but please keep in mind that I don't want it to go overboard. Now and again when we're frustrated at something is understandable ((we're only human)), but I don't want things like whole paragraphs where every second word is a swear. Also, keep in mind that I don't want any swear wars between members ((which is really just a highlight of Rule #1)).
1) PLAY NICE. This means no flame wars, no racist, sexist, hurtful comments, et cetera.
2) NO PM ADVERTISING. No one has done it here as of yet, which is a good thing, but even so do not PM other members promoting your site. We've got a special section for promotions. USE IT.
