Adding to the Vanessa love: when I saw the associate musical director in action I realised precisely how valuable she is to the PotO team. Vanessa knows the show back-to-front; the music flows when she's at the helm whereas with other conductors, it's clear when one song begins and another concludes. There are no unsavoury cymbal crashes when she's on. I also like Vanessa because she said following a musical interstate isn't that crazy.

Totally agree Nik. I got to see the orchestra on the LBS dressed in the I Love Simey shirts and the blond wigs and it was hilarious! As i usually do, once the show ended, I bolted out of my seat and ran to the front row to here them play. Once they were finished, Vanessa was so shocked and excited! i think i remember her saying 'I don't know what to say guys' and she burst out laughing. It was glorious! the males musicians especially got into the wigs and made quite a show of it which really finished the night on an extra high note! You could really feel the unity and love between them all and doubtless that was due to Vanessa. She is INCREDIBLY talented and truly brilliant. Sometimes in shows, you can feel that the cast and orchestra may only have contact with one another in the actual performances but by seeing the way Anthony and the entire cast act in the final curtain call to them, you can really see the respect they have for one another. they are like a big family! I love it!

Just found this little gem on Youtube. It's from the previews of Phantom in Singapore in 2007 and you can catch a little glimpse of Vanessa conducting at the start. Phantom of the Opera - Singapore

Congrats on a fantastic job Vanessa, and good luck for the future! (She's doing Chicago next, yes? Anyone up for a trip?)
Also, she was such a great sport about being screamed at every night! And huge props for her amazing and quick-thinking work during the Final Lair of LSS.

Vanessa really made the show. Sitting in the first few rows was always an extra-special treat, being able to see her interactions with the orchestra, how they always seemed to be having a ball. The quiet little jokes they exchanged and the always-at-the-ready smile on her face just made me grin. Often I was distracted from the actual goings-on on-stage because she was so entertaining! We'll miss you, Ness! Best wishes for Chicago and wherever else the winds take you!

And finally, some more news on Chicago, which Vanessa and Ben are doing next, plus an idea on some dates and venues. Chicago A Double Debut For BrisbaneI can't wait to see who they cast! I saw the 1998 production in Brisbane with Caroline O'Connor and Sharon Millerchip and it was sensational.

With a cast like that it would be sensational- what a double bill!
Best of luck for Chicago, Vanessa!

I agree with Jayko, Chicago is great and I could was surprised how Vanessa did feature. Looks like she enjoys her time in the spotlight.
