Though I don't have signatures to report this time ((I swear I saw a sheet amongst my papers today of a list that hadn't been inserted yet - moving in a hurry doesn't really help, does it?)), I do have something to share. A post was made on BroadwayWorld somewhere about our petition, much in the form of a rant:

I believe long time ago there was a petition for a Australian Cast Recording/ Filmed Stage Recording of Phantom with Anthony Warlow

To tell the truth, I signed that one. BUT I don't think this would work out.

1. There's a contract between Webber, Crawford and Brightman that noone else can record Phantom in English, so whatever you try, well...

2. You say Anthony Warlow is a great Phantom. Yes, I agree, and I love him too. But if that's one of the reason to have Phantom Australian Cast Recording, hmm, I don't think so. I might say, yeah, Ramin Karimloo is a great Phantom, please, have Phantom 2009 London Cast Recording with him, or someone might say, Howard McGillin is perfect in the title role, they must produce Phantom 2007 Broadway Cast Recording with him.

And FINALLY!

3. Why you need an Australian version of Overture or Magical Lasso? I mean, there's another way for Anthony Warlow to record a CD in Phantom role. Just ask for recording of the MAIN SONGS. They should be: Think of Me, Phantom of the Opera, Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, Masquerade, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Point of no Return, Final Lair... like many other artists.

And then your dream for Phantom Australian Cast Recording will come true (well, a half )

The recording petition was made in the hopes that a recording of Warlow - who is considered the best phantom after MC - would be made. We knew that it would be an outside chance but we needed to try.

A few things:

1. True there is a contract, but there was a recording done of the Canadian cast in 1989, which was clearly in English and was made despite the contract.

2. Again, Warlow is generally considered by the majority of theatregoers as the best phantom ever - worldwide - not just by Aussies but by Americans and the Brits. Also true people would love recordings of McG and Ramin, but there is already a London cast recording and a Broadway cast recording.

3. The Aussie overture is actually slightly faster than normal, therefore is different and needs to be heard, also we only had a partial orchestra, which was reorchestrated by the original Australian musical director to suits our orchestral requirements.

Also Warlow has done enough CDs that there's no real opening for him to do another. Even though he fully supported the idea of the cast recording as did the majority of the cast, including the 2 u/s phantoms for most of the tour, Simon and Roy, the 2 Christines, both our Raouls as well as 90% of the chorus.
