I.LOVE.THE.MAIN.EVENT! Confession time, I never was into it because of John and Livvy, so I didn't bother going or getting it on DVD or watching it on TV ...........BLASPHEMER *waits for the rotten tomatoes to stop being hurled at my head * What stirred up an interest in it, was hearing John, NOT ANT *again the tomatoes* sing 'Granada' and I thought WOW. Then I heard Ant and I melted into space *sighs* and I rushed out to get me a copy. "Sold out, but it's on back order" that 's what I was told everywhere and I mean everywhere, that happened in 2006. I even rang up SEL and RoadShow who finally said that they aren't reproducing . I finally got a DVD from ebay, second hand yes, do I care? noooooooooo! I watched him in delight !!!!!

Congrats, Poppy!
And thank you Nik for the thread and lovely pic, I can't believe we didn't have a TME thread!

Being a foreigner, I had NO idea what TME was until we went hunting for AW performances. We watched Music of The Night.. oh my. Phantom really should sing mask-less I think. Anyway, I've always liked John Farnham and Olivia but wasn't sure if I could sustain a whole concert.. boy, was I wrong! A friend of mine has a copy of TME and I think I watched it about 20 times before I had to hand it back I got so far behind in my work too Of everything AW-related, I'd have to say finding a DVD of it for sale has been the most difficult. I've only seen one on Ebay, and someone paid a fortune for it (back in November).

Yep, I'm still searching for the DVD, too. Sister copied her yucky flickery old tape for me, so I can watch it, but still...

Oh, you don't have the backstage antics then?!
Love the make-up argument.
I stumbled across mine in The Muses a couple of years' ago for around $30. I can't believe how much it's going for now.

There's still some backstage stuff at the end. I'm not sure if the tape has all the same stuff as the DVD - but it's still entertaining. I'll just watch, and hopefully one will turn up eventually. For less than all my life savings

On the copy I had, the backstage stuff is what you see on YT and I also love the tap dancing bit - I'm also fascinated by what I'm guessing is Mr Warlow warming up his voice? It would be interesting to know the voice exercises he uses from start to finish I think.
I think what I loved best though (other than the singing of course ;D) was the ease with which being funny seemed/s to come to both Anthony and John Farnham. They are both so charming!
The "High Art" + Granada bit is my favourite of all. Anthony is perfect, and I think it showed John Farnham could really have been any "kind" of singer, even opera I suspect, with a voice as powerful as that.

^True, true Ant himself said John could of become a wonderful tenor had he been trained that way!

farmgirlnz - there was a dvd of Main Event on Trademe last week, starting at $1. I put in an autobid of $10, no-one else was bidding, so I thought I was safe. I still live and learn!! Went to the hairdresser, came back and I had been outbid by 1 cent and the winner got it for $10.01. I already have the dvd but thought it would be good for someone on here if anyone wanted it.

That's because he's too busy guarding my bouncy balls.
Which reminds me, if anyone in Ballarat, Melbourne and Sydney happen to see those little Gumball machines inside or outside of shops containing the large bouncy balls that cost a $2 coin each, could you send me one? I'll pay you back for postage and all, of course, but I'm just trying to collect bouncy balls from every place I go to.
The Waikerie machine gave me a pink one. >)_<

farmgirlnz - there was a dvd of Main Event on Trademe last week, starting at $1. Darn it! I have TM emailing me on key words, but obviously my search words weren't good enough That's so devastating, the one I saw on Ebay went from $35 Aus dollars to $200+ in about 3 seconds and even my pretty good broadband wasn't quick enough to nab it. To know it went for $10.. I'm weeping

Mr Whippy, i do miss him. Give him a hug for me Mar, if he allows it. He can be dismissive of out-andout affection.
..... was going to continue with that but i'll leave it be!

^ I don't know how I'm supposed to take that one. Were you being innocent, or were you not? I guess it all depends on what kind of 'affection' you're talking about...

Does it help your decision to know that he stays on one of my barrier pillows on my bed?
