That's right, it's back!
For those new to Unexpected Song, last year' in our 2nd Birthday Bash I introduced a game that needed to be played over YouTube. It was composed of two inner games, or rounds, or whatever you want to call them; the first half was all about Anthony. The second had clips from various popular musicals.
This year' is the Year' of the Ant ((why couldn't the ant have rushed to Buddha?)) and the game has only half the clips to decipher this time as it did last time. 6 clips, with a possibility of hitting 36 points - or is there?
The Object
Okay, here's the deal: The following links ((or at least the links that will be inserted once YouTube stops being the git that it is and lets me open the videos to the public! - added!)) lead to six clips that I have painstakingly chosen, created and uploaded for this year'. What you need to do is to listen carefully to them and see if you can work out the titles of the track that Warlow ((and co.; yeah, you know I couldn't miss the opportunity to add another duet)) is singing. Then, once you think you've figured that out, you need to tell me where I got it from! ((No points for saying Limewire or some crap like that; I do have the authentic copies of these.)) This could either be an album or a show, you never know until you work it out.
The problem with the latter point is that it carries the possibility of having more than one answer. As you know, Warlow has a few tracks that reappear across various places, so the objective to this is to work out where these particular tracks could have come from precisely. If what you hear has indeed been one of his repeated tracks, and you then list off all the albums or shows where that particular recording could have come from, you will gain an extra point per correct extra album / show title.
I forgot to mention that every correct basic answer is 3 points. If there's half points to be issued in it like last year' ((though I don't know if it'll happen ... we'll just have to see)) then a half point is 1.5. As I said before, the basic high score is 36 points, and then there's the possibility of extra points from the extra albums / shows.
If you're feeling really confident, though, you can tell me who composed that particular song and for what musical or show. That will be an extra 2 points per correct answer. Of course this means I'm going to have to pull my finger out and actually do a bit of research to see if you're right, but hey, I need another challenge to save me from TAFE.
Don't tell me anything more other than these factors; the point system needs a limit after all.
And finally, once you have figured all of this out, send me a PM with all of your answers like this:
Game One: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
Game Two: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
Game Three: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
Game Four: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
Game Five: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
Game Six: (Title of track) / (Origin of track)
In fact, it might be easier for you to copy and paste this code into your PM first before filling in the blanks:
A note for Guests
To all of the guests visiting and posting in the site during the month of April 2009, please be advised that though you can watch the clips and make your guess by sending me your answers to my YouTube PM, you will not be eligible to win the prize.
The Prize
We've got a special treat lined up for the winning Warlovian this year'; it's not finished yet and I'll wait a little longer before revealing what it is, but you can rest assured that it is a one-of-a-kind prize ((and if you sell it on e-Bay I will be REALLY mad)). For 2nd and 3rd place contestants, I'm not sure what we can do just yet, but hopefully we'll be able to think of something a little later on.
EDIT: It's ready! The first prize winner will receive this fabulous pendant painstakingly created by Jennifer O'Rourke and completely one-of-a-kind. It's of an autumn leaf design ((I can't remember the actual name, sorry!)) with WARLOVIAN etched into it.
I know it's a bit hard to see the the writing at the moment but trust me, it's GORGEOUS.
Final Note
Since YouTube was being such a git, I will extend this game until the 2nd of May before closing it. And if, during the time between when you listen to the clips and when the game actually ends, you want to make some alterations and resubmit your previous answers, you may do so, but please be warned that I will not accept any more PMs for the game beyond midnight of the 2nd.
Okay, here are the clips; have fun!
