Beauty School Dropout / My Prayer double A side single release (3). Track 1
Originally from the musical
Grease (2) by
Jim Jacobs (2) and
Warren Casey (2).
The single appeared on the ARIA Singles Chart in 1998.
Grease has never won a Tony.
POINTS: 12Game Two: What Kind of Fool am I (3) /
The Main event DVD chapter 8 (doesn’t appear on the CD) (3), or possibly
ripped from youtube where neh posted it*.
Originally from the musical
Stop the World – I Want to get Off (2) by
Leslie Bricusse (2) and
Anthony Newley (2), which opened in the Queen’s Theater on the West End in 1961.
The full orchestration of Stop the World has one French horn part, and both of the two percussion parts require finger cymbals.
POINTS: 12* No no, I've got the DVD and the full audio from the DVD. I don't know how to rip audio from YouTube ((I wish I did!)).
Game Three: Anthem (3) /
Center Stage (3) (1990) track 7,
Best of Act 1 (1) (1996) track 12.
Originally from the musical
Chess (2) with lyrics by
Tim Rice (2) and music by
Bjorn Uleavus (2) and
Benny Andersson (2) (aka “the guys from ABBA”). The song is sung by the character Anatoly in the musical.
Tim Rice originally approached Andrew Lloyd Webber to write the score, before the shows producer introduced him to Benny and Bjorn. Chess was a financial flop on both Broadway and the West End. The Broadway production lost $6 million dollars and closed after only 68 performances.
POINTS: 15Game Four: L.O.V.E. (3) /
Back in the Swing (3) (1993) track 12
Written by
Bert Kaempfert (2) and
Milt Gabler (2) for
Nat King Cole's
(2) 1965 album L-O-V-E (the last album released before Cole’s death that same year).
Bert Kaempfert provided the Beatles with their first commercial recording contract in 1961, hiring them to play backing instrumentals on an album he was producing.
POINTS: 12Game Five: Hello Little Girl (3) /
On the Boards (3) (1992) track 12
Originally from the musical
Into the Woods (2) with music and lyrics by
Stephen Sondheim (2) and book by
James Lapine (2) (which was inspired by child psychologist Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment)
The orchestra that provided the backing tracks for this album (Victorian Philharmonic – conducted by Brian Stacey) had 4 trumpets, 5 trombones and 5 french horns – which is technically not a full orchestral horn section, they were one short.
The female vocalist on this track apparently doesn’t exist as she isn’t credited anywhere – including in the cd’s accompanying booklet.
POINTS: 12Game Six: The World Has Gone Insane (3) /
The Complete Work: Jekyll & Hyde – the gothic musical thriller (3) (1994) track 26 (or CD 2, track 6)
Originally from the musical
Jekyll and Hyde (2) with music by
Frank Wildhorn (2) and lyrics by
Leslie Bricusse (2) – although the song didn’t appear in the original Broadway production, it has been put back into the US tour production, with a slightly different arrangement (heaps of electric guitar)
