So before this spilled into a stupidly long Facebook rant, I thought I'd start a thread here. The purpose: discussing our dream casts for any musical!
I'll kick it off with my (work in progress) dream Les Mis Australia cast:
Valjean: David Rogers-Smith. Javert: Philip Quast or Ben Lewis. Fantine: Marina Prior (?). Cosette: Julie Goodwin. Marius: Roy Weissensteiner (if he ever returns). Enjolras: Martin Crewes. Eponine: Jemma Rix. Thenardier: Anthony Warlow. Mme. Thernardier: Suzanne Johnstone.
(I snort at age discrepencies more than Millerchip!Meg in LND.)

Oh, Roy!Marius... nice!
That is an awesome cast. Not sure who would be good for Cosette. Julie? Lucy Maunder?

Julie can certainly do the wide-eyed innocent thing. Yes, that could work. I did not see Roy!Raoul therefore I must see Roy!fop-of-some-description. Any ideas for a substitute Marius in Roy's absence? I thought Martin but then who would be Enjolras? Decisions, decisions.

One Martin can play many roles?

I have a few roles in mind...

One man Les Mis? I'd totally see that.

Wait.... one man Les Mis - would he do the female parts as well? Kind of the reverse of a trouser role.
Well, if Martin was taking over Marius in Roy's absence, maybe Luke Joslin could step into Enjorlas? He did well with Liberius (probably spelt wrong...), and it'd be good to see him in the idealistic kind of role..

I can totally see Luke as Grantaire!

To be honest, I like Debra Byrne as Fantine. She has that rustic tone that sounds like a woman who's been kicked by the world, which is how I believe Fantine to be.
And Fred was gonna say this for me but I hopped in in time, but I could also see Luke doing Thernardier. But Warlow's Thernardier I'd definitely like to see.
It just occurred to me that Suzanne Johnstone would be PERFECT as Mme. Thernardier. I think she'd nail that role.

He has been a bit of a layabout in everything I've seen him in...

I can totally see him as Grantaire too! He acted porn addict and crack addict to perfection. Drunkard would be a cinch. ETA: Suzanne! Yes, she would be hilarious!

Suzanne would be great. And if Roy isn't available, Matthew Robinson?

I was thinking about this thread, and have come up with a dream cast for Spamalot... it may still have some work, and I'm sorry - I didn't find a place for Martin Crewes. King Arthur: Anthony Warlow. Lady of the Lake: Christina O’Neill. Sir Lancelot: Luke Joslin. Sir Galahad: Alexander Lewis. Sir Robin: Drew Forsythe. Patsy: James D Smith. Herbert: Simon Burke Turns out I can't think of who could play Herbert.... it's hard...

Well, you were rather preoccupied with picturing Luke Joslin in garterbelts.

I was rather tempted by the Warlow-in-garterbelts scenario, but I'd love him to do I'm All Alone. He'd be able to put some much depth and feeling into it... it'd be awesome. Maybe they could swap around? Luke as Sir Lancelot one day, Anthony the next.

Aw, no Martin? Sadness! I am not familiar with Spamalot so can't suggest anyone for this one. Wish I had seen it when it was here!

It was hilarious! We didn't see it during the original tour, a local theatre group did it, but it was still fantastic. The recording gives off a good feel of what's going on too. "You're Jewish? But why didn't you tell me?" "It's not the sort of thing you say to an armed Christian."

Aw, no Martin? Sadness! I am not familiar with Spamalot so can't suggest anyone for this one. Wish I had seen it when it was here! I was trying to work out where to fit him in for you, but I kept thinking of people who were better.... from my point of view, anyway. Although, to be entirely honest, Martin might make a better Sir Lancelot thank Luke. But I like Luke! And I've changed Herbert to Simon Burke. It's a fairly small part, but I think he'd have fun with it. We have the CD... maybe we could lend it to Dorian sometime...

Hmmm. Not too sure about a full cast, but I think Ant would do well as The Engineer in Miss Saigon. As I think about it I'll add to my cast.
So
Kim: Chris: Alexander Lewis The Engineer: Anthony Warlow Thuy: John: Gigi: Theres this girl on Broadway who played Anita in WSS and won a Tony. I think she'd be good as Gigi, just gotta find her name. Karen Olivo Ellen:

It's very good, tbh I like it as a whole better than Phantom. But there were numerous scenes when I thought "Yeah, probably a good thing I'm not here with my parents."
I haven't seen Les Mis either, but the same people did Miss Saigon so I must keep my eyes peeled for local productions.
