Woo! Tea Tree Plaza is right near us! Thanks so much for that link, Giz. It didn't even occur to me to just check the Hoyts site.

It's taken awhile to filter through, but I just realised something...
After all our petitioning, with RUG desperately repeating that they can't do a DVD of the stage show, there's too many people with contracts and whatever, blah, blah...
They've just gone and done the stage show for this concert. It will be coming out on DVD. We're going to have the stage show on DVD and it's not OURS!
I know Anthony is in it and all, but .... if they can film it for this, they should have been at least capable of giving us a CD with the Australian cast.
*sigh*

I've just sat through the whole show at Mt Barker thinking the same thing. Every scene I was wishing Anthony was playing the lead. It's a great show but it would have been so good to have had a recording of Anthony. He looks so good when he comes on and sounds so good as well. Ramin is very good but He can't beat Anthony's performance. I can still see the scene when he (Anthony) is covered up with the cloak and there is just his wonderful voice, singing Point of no return and THOSE HANDS are going overtime. Oh I wish there was a recording so more people could enjoy his wonderful perfomance, and I could see and hear it over and over again.
Sorry I'll stop now!!!!
No I won't.
It really is such a shame we don't have a recording of our Phantom. Or our Yurii. Now I better stop or I'll go on about that as well.

It still took a 25th Anniversary for them to even consider putting out a DVD though... maybe it isn't as simple as it seems, with the contracts and stuff. I dunno, I mean, this was a pretty special occasion and perhaps sentiment was the driving factor behind it. I do wish we got a CD though. It's probably to late... it's been three years since the show was in Auckland, even longer for Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, and almost three years since Perth and Adelaide. Putting out a recording now would mean getting the cast and ensemble back together, and then they's have to market it without a touring production to aid sales. GRRRRRR!
And the Zhivago CD... they could have at least branded it as a concept album or something. Like J&H.
I can't wait until Miss Saigon turns 25..... xD Sorry.

In a couple of hours we'll be seeing Phantom; of course, I'll most likely be just hanging out to see Warlow again, but I wouldn't mind getting a proper earful of Ramin or JOJ, as I'm not very familiar with their sound. This whole thing has brought me back into the Phantom craze; I even re-read Susan Kay's version (thanks again, whoever sent that to me! I'm sorry I've forgotten who it was ).

It'll be interesting to see what the other actors bring to the Phantom. I've seen or heard various clips of other actors performing single songs fronf the show in concert format, but a full on performance would be quite different, I'd imagine.
I'm looking to get a few mates together and go see it in November, I'll have to see what my Little Shop rehersal/performance schedule is like though.
It's kinda sad how after Phantom died out, everyone left here. *mutters something about redemption since returning?*

... the end of Phantom wasn't entirely why some of the members left. There were ... uh, personality clashes, and stuff. But Warlow did slow down for awhile there, so a lot of people just lost the habit of checking in here. There didn't seem to be much to talk about.... I watched Phantom today. It was cool, but I had some issues with some of the casting. It was interesting to see people that I've never really seen before... but Aussies do it better! Carlotta and Andre were both awesome though.

FINALLY went and saw it today! I thought it was pretty good, although I was kinda hoping the Chandelier would get properly dropped. I liked what they did with the Pro Arch though, and the projections they used were pretty nifty. It was interesting seeing the differen't style of staging. It was also great seeing all the costumes up close, you really notice the detail. I think the main issue with the cast was that they're from different productions/companies so they havent had months or years of touring and performing together to fully gel, so some of it didn't seem as natural. Ramin does a decent Phantom I thought, and I liked the girl who played Christine. Was it just me or did whoever was Meg seemed a bit old for the role? And I didn't like Raoul much... but everyone else seemed okay. The ending was great, they had some great shots of Ant and (I assume to some people in the cinemas dismay) I started clapping when he sang. I was suprised Sarah can still sing with all that botox in her face. xD Nah, she was good. Overall I enjoyed it. Of course I loved our version so much better, and even this couldn't compare to live on stage, but I'm really glad I got to experience the show again.

@ tori
I believe the Chandelier is the one used in the movie and weighs too much to drop.

All I know was that on this one they inscribed 'Maria'. The so shoulda used a light one from the show. The Chandelier drop is iconic! Ah well.

This may not be new info but I haven't noticed it elsewhere on here - the Phantom 25th DVD (and Bluray) was released in Australia yesterday. A quick search shows prices ranging from $20 at Sanity to $35 at ABC. Or if you have a spare $170 odd lying around there's apparently a box set which also contains all manner of other things!

$170? What kind of other things? Well it wasn't all that clear in the advert I saw first but here's a list of what's in it: www.thephantomoftheopera.com/products, and it doesn't seem that the Albert Hall event is part of it.

I was really excited when I first saw the ad for the box set. I'm glad I checked out the contents as I would have been very disappointed. I’m hoping for the DVD as a Christmas present so I’ve put off buying myself.

There are some extra little moments in the special features on the DVD of Anthony and John Owen-Jones for those interested.

Well, I sat through the entirety of Dialogues of the Carmelites, despite the fact that I was bored out of my brain (apparently I'm lacking in class and can't handle opera...), just to see the millisecond that Ant was there. All tiny moments are worth it. (Meanwhile, way off topic, but it's so awesome to actually have stuff going on in US! I check here faithfully every day ((well, I did, and then bad things happened so I didn't for ages, but then I started again)) and there's so little going on, but now - whoosh! Stuff happens! Woohoo!)

It is fun when the board is active. I think when it starts getting quiet people tend to come here less and less, people get busy with things in their life and can't come on as much. But hopefully they will drop in and see a bit more activity and join in! My excuse was my holiday, then Christmas... but now I am back and ready to take Jekyll down in Battle Royale once again! Muah ha ha!

It's a bit of a vicious cycle too - people get busy, so not much happens, then less people come here because nothing is happening, then even less happens... Team Hyde!
