Did anyone else get the email from the Really Useless Group about the 25th anniversary of Phantom of the Opera? Seems they are putting out a DVD of the 25th ann performance. Don't know if it would be worth buying or not - what do you all think?

@inj
I got the email as well. The tickets for the performances are very limited and expensive The cheapest is £25 to stand at the back . I think I will order the DVD. If it's anything like the Les Miz 25th it should be worth seeing.
I live in hope that Anthony may make an appearance. The Les Miz show had 4 Jean Valjeans singing together so you never know.

Mazza - bring incorrigible again (I love that word!!) - there is a cd coming out next month with several Jersey Boys Frankie Valli leads singing Christmas songs - including Australia's Bobby Fox. So that is on my list to get. I probably will order the Phantom DVD as well, although it just won't be the same without Anthony. Still, I consider myself very lucky to have seen him in the role 32.5 times.

Money is a bit tight for us this year (we're supposed to be moving next year, and can't really afford it yet ), so we probably won't get it yet. I .. don't know. I guess it could be okay. Maybe... it would be awesome if Anthony made an appearance! It'd definitely be on our To Buy list then. I guess I'll wait to see what the the verdict is from the people who buy it before I make a decision either way. I realise that's not much help to make your decision, Inj.

Hve just looked at the official site and there is this: a cast and orchestra of over 200 together with some special guest appearances. That seems like a huge cast and orchestra to me. Lets hope that the special guest appearances include Anthony, although they are probably talking about Michael Crawford. Fredus - I am putting my house on the market at the end of the year and so much needs doing before that - but my money keeps going on Jersey Boys trips!!!

Hmmm... If I had a job and money I'd probably get it. If Anthony is in it, then it'll be fantastic. But I don't think him not being there would be enough to stop me wanting to experince the show in whatever form (except for that movie. Eugh.) again. I went and saw Phantom for Phantom, not Ant, and it wasn't until afterwards that I knew who he was. He's one of my favourite singers/actors/performers, but that doesn't stop me appreciating the show itself and it's other performers. What saddens me most it that Rob Guest wont be in it. If the legend was still alive there'd be no way they couldn't include the longest serving Phantom.

tori, I went to see Phantom for Phantom, too. Then out of vague curiosity about Anthony I ended up here and got caught up in the all-consuming obsession about him that is this site. If he's in it, we'll buy it ASAP, otherwise... we'll see. @ Inj - that's very brave of you! I'm somewhat of an over-planning coward. I want to have a safety net of savings before we move, and I don't think my sanity would last another year here- so no spending for us!

Well, now I really can call them The Really Useless Group. I went online to pre-order the 25th Ann. DVD and because I am not in the UK or Europe, can't buy it. Mazza - did you manage to pre-order it?
Fredus - is Adelaide that bad? I always like it when I visit but I guess that visiting and living in a place are entirely different.

I love Adelaide, I like my co-workers.... but my bosses are evil incarnate, and I've only had five days of contact with my family since I got here. Which makes me sad. It's kind of ... moving to Adelaide could have been the best thing ever, but mainly I'm just getting stressed, tired and miserable, so re-locating is the go. I am going to miss the pizza-in-a-cone place, though, and the Japanese crepe shop and the normal pancake shop and... oh, all sorts of things. It's rather ridiculous that they won't ship it! That makes no sense whatsoever. Useless is a very applicable name!

sorry i've been away for a while. I've had one of my headaches so I've been out of action since Sunday. It's a particularly bad time as I had just started to tile the kitchen floor. so now everyone in having ot walk around the fridge which had been movved across the room and watch out they don't trip over the edges. I'll have to finish it next weekend now.
I'll try to catch up with everything that's been going on.
@inj I haven't tried to order the DVD yet. I will probably order it using a british credit card and have it sent to family in the UK if I can't order it for direct delivery here. I'll let you know how I get on.
The special guests will have to include MC but hopefully they have more Phantoms than just him.
I must admit the first time I saw Anthony in Phantom I had no idea how good he was ( I just checked this and I had typed "ggod" instead of "good" a bit of a Fraudian slip). We were just going to see the show because we like it so much.
@fred I love Adelaide. We chose to move here from London and have the lifestyle we wanted. I'm lucky I have a sister here. I know what you mean about not seeing family. I usually see my parents about every 2 to 3 years. Thats' particularly difficult as mum has been so ill over the past few years.

I have just seen this on Broadway World: The event will also be screened live on over 500 screens in North America on October 2nd with additional broadcasts in cinemas on October 5th and 6th, with a special encore on October 11th. Canada will broadcast on Oct 3 with additional screening on Oct 22nd. Australia has a special premiere screening at the State Theatre in Sydney on October 8th, followed by screenings from October 13th - 23rd. December 8th sees the home entertainment release on DVD in Australia / New Zealand.
So if anyone is in Sydney in October they will be able to see the movie. What a minute - I will be there 21 - 23rd - but Jersey Boys will be taking up all my time!
I have just gone onto Amazon UK and pre-ordered the DVD there with no problems whatsoever.

I'm glad you've managed to get a copy, Inj. Was it more expensive via Amazon? @fred I love Adelaide. We chose to move here from London and have the lifestyle we wanted. I'm lucky I have a sister here. I know what you mean about not seeing family. I usually see my parents about every 2 to 3 years. Thats' particularly difficult as mum has been so ill over the past few years. I love Adelaide too, and if it wasn't for my underpaid hell of a job, I would happily stay. I will come back to visit though, and Marie-Cris's family is still in SA too.

ozzieconxtion - you can pre-order it at Amazon.com. Now to those who have watched the youtube video gizelmo posted the link to - who was the old man singing on the right hand side? On my screen it is very blurry and I don't recognise him at all - maybe he isn't even old!!!

That would be the notorious Colm Wilkinson and it seems he started a bar too early in the title song with Sarah Brightman, hence the awkward gap before we hear the next line through Anthony's booming baritone XD

I really can't wait to go see this at the movies in November. I only got to see Phantom once so just being able to experience the show again is gonna be awesome. Albeit not as amazing on stage, but close enough.

Giz - that link took me nowhere... is it broken, or is it just my 'puter playing silly buggers? Meanwhile, we're so going to get the DVD now. Tight funds or not, if Anthony is involved, we need a copy!

Running to Google to see if there's any in Adelaide...
Edit: And if there's a list anywhere of where it is going, I can't find it. Anyone else had any luck with that?
