It occurs to me that we've made various suggestions in the past for Warlow to "sing this song", "read this book for audio", "be a GPS voice", and whatnot. So I've decided: We need a list. To save from me hogging all the ideas ((as I tend to whenever I start threads like this ... and I'm sorry)), I'm going to start off with just one suggestion ((it was already made so I'm not taking credit for the idea. What Should Warlow Do:- GPS voice recording - Concert tour - A Christmas CD, including: - Baby, It's Cold Outside
- The Holly and the Ivy
- The Little Drummer Boy
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
- Silent Night // Stille Nacht
- Ding Dong Merrily on High
- It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
- A'Soalin
- Here We Come A-Wassailing
- Winter Wonderland
- We Three Kings
- The Scarlet Pimpernel

- A Christmas CD (In a triple pack, each disc with at least 15 tracks).

Including "Baby, It's Cold Outside"! Would love to hear him sing that. But really, who would fight him asking you to stay longer??

.... it does kind of make me think of the Wayne and Wanda version the Muppets did, but it would be awesome to hear Ant do it.
Also, The Holly and the Ivy. Because I played an awesome Christmas medley once that had it, but I've never heard it sung well.

You suggested Little Drummer Boy, so I'm also throwing God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Lacking the comma, because that bloody thing can sit anywhere depending on who writes it.
If you may have noticed, yes, I'm creating a sub-list of carols he needs to sing.
EDIT: Also, Silent Night. Or Stille Nacht, because it's rather pretty in German. Or ... both.

I can't believe he hasn't done one. It would be fantastic!

It is very pretty in German, but I propose both translations.
Also - Ding Dong, Merrily on High. Because I like it.

We ... we really need to nudge him towards it.
The problem I have with single-artist Christmas CDs is that there's some sort of ... tackiness/cheapness to it. I don't know, I've just always felt that way about Christmas albums.
Tapes on the other hand ... I've got a Christmas tape of The Four Tops floating around that I grew up on, and I like it.
Yet why can't I accept the fact that other artists that I like - like Neil Diamond, for example - have done Christmas albums and still maintain their dignity?
...
The other problem I have is that it's Warlow, and I would love for him to sing all of these songs, and I would love to own an ((/ a 3-CD'd)) Christmas album done by him.
EDIT: I suggested Stille Nacht only because we sang it in choir once. We always did Silent Night each year, but always a different version, and I loved Stille Nacht to bits. I think I've still got the choral arrangement somewhere.
Also ... I don't know about you, but it'd have to be a bloody good version for me to tolerate 12 Days of Christmas. Even if it's Warlow.

^ Even for Warlow, I could not stomach 12 Days of Chritmas. He got me to like Don't Get Around Much Anymore again, after I detested it for years and years - I don't want to push it.
Tacky or not, I want it!

It Came Upon a Midnight Clear!
Oh, oh, also, A'Soalin. I've only ever heard it done by Peter, Paul and Mary and East Wind ((that's my singing teacher's band ... no, not those two bands together singing it)).
And ... Here We Come A-Wassailing.
I'm sorry, temporarily, this is a What Carols Should Warlow Do thread.

Winter Wonderland - well I think that is what its called. I don't know if you have the Beaurepaires ads in Australia? If you do you would have seen Vince Martin singing this song.

I love Winter Wonderland! I think it is the one I most sing to myself around Christmas time.

We have Beaurepaires, and we have Beaurepaires ads ... but we have no TV. So I can't really confirm.
Winter Wonderland would be perfect!
I thought last night, maybe We Three Kings? Maybe he could to a three-split harmony on it? Or different voices?

Getting off Christmas and back to the subject of the thread...... I think Warlow should do this..... Have dinner with me!

Only dinner? Poppy, what a waste!

Oh yes. Let's create a "Things Warlow Should Do With Poppy" list, eh? EDIT: Oh yes, that version. I've heared both that one and the same type read out by a woman. It's the only type that I can tolerate, but would Warlow do it? Heck, let's ask him.

Wait, no, it can't be 'Things Warlow Should Do With Poppy'. Equal shares, woman!

Agreed!
It would be fun to cook with him. Although, as Eb can attest to, I get frustrated very easily when I cook with someone else so would probably end up yelling at him. XD

Only dinner ...................... to start with of course! And you all know when it comes to Ant I don't like to share!!

Post by Fredus on Jan 13, 2012 17:27:55 GMT 9.5
I think I'll insist on some level of sharing, Poppy, or else it shall have to be pistols at dawn! (Except maybe not actually dawn, it's a bit early for me.) Particularly if the victor has first dibs on Ant. Wouldn't want to be tired. I'm not much good at cooking with people either... I tend to barge in and take it all over. Except the icky jobs that involve touching meat.

I also tend to get a bit nit-picky about cooking. There are times when I'm quite happy to make things with other people, but sometimes - can depend on the people and what's being made - I can be a bit territorial. Like when Fred's dad - when her folks visited - started saying how he was going to make spag when I'd very much made it clear that I was going to make it. My kitchen. Grr. EDIT: I don't mind making desserts with other people ...

^ That was actually kind of scary. I thought it would end in bloodshed. Well ... not literally bloodshed... but ... it was a clash of the titans kind of moment and I'm not so good at those. I was about three seconds from running away when you both managed to settle it peaceably.... phew.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of a nice cosy little restaurant to have dinner in ....don't think Ant would like my cooking! Maybe he can cook, Ant likes cooking. He can also sing whilst he cooks! I will watch of course! Fred, I came up with this from you Predictions thread.. Warlow should do a concert with David Hobson! ..and then they both can have dinner with me!

|
Post by Fredus on Jan 14, 2012 15:18:59 GMT 9.5
Fine, you can have Hobson, but then you'll have to give your Ant shares up to me. I'm not a bad cook... maybe Ant could help. And then I had a sad thought - there's no one in this house for Ant to be allergic to any more.
