Okay, I've just finished watching the HMS Pinafore/Trial By Jury DVD, and though they were done on the one night I think seperate threads for each story might be in order. Did anyone else catch the fact that Buttercup was probably a decade or more older than Captain Corcoran, and yet they were still in love? Umm ... Having just seen this, I haven't formed much of an opinion on it, unfortunately. It was certainly done a lot more professionally than Patience ((with the mic.s and all)), and Tiffany Speight's eye makeup was to DIE for. The set and the props were all well done ((particularly the Captain's whip ... )), and the choreography worked well. I suppose the costumes were all right ((I don't have a fashion eye, so sue me)). And I haven't deveoped an opinion on the storyline just yet. What do you think of HMS Pinafore?

haha. I love this show. Once again, amazing acting and singing on Anthony's part. And I LOVE Tiffany Speight. She's one of my favourite female singers. She's so gorgeous. And David. David rocks my world. Him and Anthony of course.

I keep thinking about HMS at work and I burst into giggles; not necessarily laughing AT it, but ... I just laugh cause I'm happy and giddy and fan-girl like about it. Bless him. I love how a man will change his accent if his station changes ;D lol

I love that too. I adore the whole show. It helps that four of my other favourite singers are in it. What a fantastic show to watch it is. I always smile when I think of it, and I love listening to it on my mp3 player.

I've got them all in my photobucket account, off getty images.... I'll have to post them later, there's heaps of good ones.
I'll try and upload them for you sometime. It may take a while because my computer is being incredibly slow and mean lately. I'll try in the next few weeks.

I just found this review of Pinafore and Trial on Amazon. Is there another version out there in which David Hobson plays Corcoran and Anthony Warlow plays Rackstraw, or is this reviewer a complete DickHead!!! Very hard to take a review seriously when the reviewer can't even get the basics like cast name right!!!
"CUSTOMER REVIEWS: A mixed bag Where the music dominates the operetta, as in HMS Pinafore, Opera Australia is great. Hobson’s reading of “Bright regent of the heavens” is a joy to hear. Everyone has their patter songs down pat. Colette Mann’s portrayal of Buttercup was odd, but not offensive.
Where the dialogue dominates the music, as in Trial by Jury, Opera Australia alternates between annoying and incomprehensible. Much of the dialogue cannot be heard through the accents. Matching a gold digging plaintiff with Warlow’s senile judge makes the ending more silly than funny. [The libretto seems to suggest the mating a naive plaintiff with a venal judge.]"

I'm pretty sure that reviewer is an idiot, Sandra. If you can't get your cast right, don't review!

I thoroughly enjoy this show and often have the DVD playing as I potter around the house.
Mars is quite right to say "Buttercup is a decade older than Corcoran", when you take a closer look at the relationships the story is somewhat incestuous and strange.
Buttercup is in love with Corcoran - whom she babysat as a child, therefore is old enough to be his Mother.
Corcoran and Rackstraw are the same age (mixed up as children), yet Rackstraw is in love with Corcoran's daughter, Josephine - therefore is old enough to be her Father.
Sir Joseph is also in love with Josephine, which must make him old enough to be her grandfather. And, I still haven't quite figured out who Sir Joseph married in the end, was it his Sister, his Cousin or his Aunt???
All that aside, Anthony singing "Bright Regent of the Heavens" always has me running for the TV!
@sanderella If I believed everything I read in a review I would probably never see any show!!
Cheers MuLo

I agree, MuLo. Very convoluted relationships in Pinafore. Obviously love levels age differences as well as class differences!!! Typically Gilbertian though, nothing is ever straightforward. And I also think Anthony's "Bright Regent of the Heavens" is a highlight. I love his voice, but also the lighting and camera angles in that scene. Now all I have to do is track down the version with HOBSON singing that song that the Amazon tosser reviewed to compare the performances. XD XD Just goes to show, you can get a job as a reviewer even if you are a complete knob!!

I love Ant's dancing in Pinafore and his facial expressions just crack me up!
My fav bits are his spot with Dick Deadeye and him singing 'Bright Regent of the Heavens'. I also love the costuming in Pinafore, the dresses are wonderful. Mulo I think Sir Joseph marries his secretary at the end.

I just got this DVD the other day and I'm already in love with it! Warlow and Hobson are my fave performers and the reason I'm into Gilbert and Sullivan in the first place. I'm with you Jazzgirl1960, I just love Warlow's facial expressions. His dancing has me on a high for hours I laugh so much! (Especially in, "Never mind the Why and Wherefore.") I think Ant plays Corcoran really well, you can't help but feel sympathy for him sometimes! XD Sir Jospeh is so hard on him!

Oh, I'm probably going to explode from delight when I watch the dvd!! I love the good Captain already, so yes. Exploding, it's likely to happen. But I can think of worse ways to go out than from sheer joy. *grins*
