My deepest sympathy to Rob's family and friends. He was a great entertainer and will be sadly missed on our stages.

Well said Mar... none of us know how long we have, so we should make the most of whatever we get.
RIP Rob.

The most tragc of news! I was permanently glued to the every news for the past few days. A life taken too soon. My deepest condolences to Rob's family and friends. Did anyone by any chance catch the late new on Ten on wednesday night? They had Ant speak over the phone for a few seconds sharing his condolences and the true loss Robs life was. Very touching. RIP Rob

So tragic! My best wishes to his families and friends. RIP Rob.
Though not having seen him perform, I saw him as one of the Valjeans at the end of Les Mis 10th Anniversary Concert, representing Australia. He must be an excellent Valjean.

I have finally gathered up the courage to come over and write in this part of the forum, and I will explain why in a moment.
But, first and foremost, my thoughts, prayers and condolonces are with Rob Guest's family and friends, and also with the cast of Wicked, as they all come to terms with this tragic and unexpected loss, and what they will no doubt need to deal with in the coming days, weeks and months ahead. Australia and New Zealand have lost a very talentd performer, but, MORE IMPORTANTLY, someone has lost a partner, a father or a friend.
(places foot near mouth . . .)
I can only say, from hearing from a friends' personal experience, that I am personally glad that he did not linger, as my friend's mother (the family who grew up with Anthony's family) lingered in an almost comatose state for over ten years before she finally passed away last year.
If I haven't put my foot in my mouth already, I probably will now . . . but when I first heard that Rob had passed, of course I felt sadness, and also partly relief, as per my paragraph above, but my thought also was . . .
I hope that he was an organ donor.
Now before you bite my head off, please let me explain myself. Many of you are uaware that I am a heart transplant recipient, transplanted in January 1992. Knowing the circumstances of Rob's passing, and hearing through the media he was of reasonably good health, mt thoughts turned to the fact that there could come some good from this tragedy.
Yes, I have even thought this about a friend of mine who passed away. All you need to do is attend one of the Annual Thanksgiving Services to realise how many lives can be changed by one person, even after they have left this place for a better one.
Now, do I have to run and hide?

No Kylie, you don't. I am personally of the belief that organ donation should be an opt-out system rather than an opt-in one in this country. You don't have to work in my profession for very long before you see the enormous good that can come from the ultimate gift of life. And, I would think that you, as a recipient, are uniquely qualified to comment on this subject. I also happen to have very strong views on the families of potential organ donors who refuse to give consent, even in the face of consent from the donor his or herself. But this is perhaps not an appropriate place for my vent!

The good thing about it to is that Megan, the maker of the video, is hoping to also post up many of the speeches on youtube also.

Unwinding and I attended the memorial today- it was very moving as well as telling some great stories about Rob and his friends, as well as some amazing performances and speeches. A fitting way to farewell a legend.

Thanks for the udate unwinding, what a beautiful tribute to a wonderful performer and general Mr Nice Guy. I found myself wanting to hug the entire cast of Wicked. Well done guys and girls, I'm sure Rob would have been smiling from above.

RIP Rob. I didnt really know too much about him, but the passing of the longest running phantom, cuts pretty deep.
My parents saw phantom in 93'/94' in Melbourne, sadly they only saw Robs understudy.

His understudy?! Wow, that's quite a feat because Rob pretty much never missed a show.

I received an e-mail a while back from someone who not only wanted signatures added to the petition but had said that they had gotten Rob Guest's understudy too - or at least wanted to know who it was, I can't quite remember. I think I asked in the petition thread and apparently the program didn't have an understudy marked?
