It seems only fitting to have a thread for these utterly awesome chaps, given the giggles and good times (and gifts!) they have provided us with, time and time again.
So share your love of our two fav managers here! And beware of any letters from that pesky O.G.

I have to say, they are unique among the performers.
Its one thing to play Phantom or Christine, granted they are not simple roles. And I grant that the major characters do have to work with and against each other...
But Firmin and André have to work as a single entity IMHO, to be effective. They are sort of two parts of the whole - the 'theater manager' - two different faces of the same coin.
And they pull it off brilliantly, John O'May and Derek Taylor. From the brilliant way they match the way they walk, move, act, talk and finish each others sentences...they pull it off something fantastic.
I've always thought they were two of the most difficult roles in the musical to get *exactly* right because you are so reliant on the other half, but by Gods they do it!

roguecannon, I totally agree. They are such a perfect match. I have seen the current show 32 times and every time they have both been on stage. This must be a record! My favourite part is when they sing Prima Donna. I have tried to find more information on both of them but there is not much available. Does anyone have info on prior shows, if they have made any recordings etc?

Hold on to your seat farmgirlnz. Injeanious probably holds the title for an NZer and Bonnie i think has seen it like 60+times and Sandy, well I don't know how many times she has seen it exactly but I think Federicci is haunting her know!

Bonnie's seen it overseas, as well as here in Aus. I saw it 5 times in 08 and that is nothing- I haven't hit double figures yet

Some ushers at the Princess were telling me during the Melbourne season, John only missed one show. They were devastated when they heard he was off sick. Clearly both managers are dedicated to their roles, which is wonderful for us theatre-goers but... too bad for John and Derek's understudies, eh?

I was at that show then, because the night i saw it i got Derek and David. Although i will admit David was excellent in the role, he just wasn't John.

farmgirlnz - I have seen POTO a total of 35 times - the first three were in 1990 - two with Anthony and one with Rob Guest. Then this current season of POTO I have seen Anthony 25.5 times, Roy twice and Simon 4.5 times. (I think this is right, but I am at work so can't check my notebook).

Well my attendance record is nothing to be proud of, but I hit double digits on my Birthday (and what a birthday it was ): 2x Rob Guest, 1x Roy & 7x with Anthony so far, with Adelaide still to come!

Well, so far I have seen Phantom.......once. But in a way, it kinda makes it more special for me too. Luckily I got the complete cast, and I think John and Derek were fantastic. They act perfectly together and bring their fair share of humor into the show too. I love it when they sing Prima Donna, and do their little opening to Masquerade. As for info on them- I know Derek has a website: www.derektaylor.com and includes his CV.

Injenious, how did you get Ant 25.5 times? The .5 confuses me... In one of the Auckland shows Anthony buggered his voice with the damning and cursing. He had to sing the reprise an octave lower. Simon took over Act 2. ... and Sandy, well I don't know how many times she has seen it exactly but I think Federicci is haunting her know! She's seen it 29 times. I'm valiantly trying to catch up; I'm on 20.

Wow, that's just amazing, I thought I was doing quite well! I got to see it in 1989 with Michael Crawford, twice with Rob Guest (I had bought a ticket, and then I got two at work for free, so what's a girl to do!), and now twice with Mr Warlow. Michael was exactly like he was on the original cast recording, quite muted really. Although I can't put the wonderful Rob (poor Rob ) on the same vocal level of talent as Mr W, he was actually really good and I liked his take on it. Obviously though, Mr Warlow is just perfection, I'm so glad I didn't have a half performance, I'd have been gutted! Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this post

Board of Doom, the cast board placed outside the theatre an hour or so before each show. It says who's playing what part for that show. Back on the topic of our managers- my highlight? "The old audience" stab at LSS

*to add to Bec's highlight - the extravagence of Derek's skeleton reveal and the exubrance of our reaction at LSS. They were milking our hyper state all night and we were all loving it!
Props to John for working so hard to get musicals that arent widely known to Aussie audiences out and about in any way he can. From what i've read and heard, Piazza isnt the first or last he plans to showcase, even if it can only be in concert form. *posters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* We all have to make diligent efforts to hijack Derek at LADS - coz have any of us had a convo with him yet? He tends to be gone before you can blink

^ He nearly escaped before I could ambush him and ask for a photo. He looks very different when he's out of the Andre get-up so I think lots of people miss him.

I missed both John and Derek in Melbourne, hence why I ambushed them both in Sydney! Speaking of which, there should be a photo of me in a manager sandwich floating around- who took it?

Yep unwinding, that is where the .5 came in!! I had the same thing happen at one show where Ana sang the first half and then an announcement came over that Sarah Bakker would be doing the second half due to Ana's indisposition.
