The title says it all, really... A few of us have been chatting in the Dr Zhivago thread about the lamentable lack of an Australian cast recording for Dr Zhivago. We know that, sadly, there's going to be a limit to how much we can do to try to convince them to go ahead with it. First off, we think it might be a good idea to create a page on Facebook. That way, we can try to gather as much support as possible for the idea, and ... well, get the message out there that we are peeved. So, any thoughts, ideas, general suggestions? Anyone got a good name for a Facebook page? And, really, the more we can get talking about this, the better. I should note, once we have decided on a name for the Facebook page, and written a bit of a blurb for it (and I know mazza is already thinking on that matter), I'm willing to start the FB page connected to my account.

Just to bring more info over from the Zhivago thread, we're considering making it a Cause & Community page. It's about a show's recording, but at heart it's really trying to convey that WE REALLY WANT OUR PROMISED CD.
I'd be willing to set up the page and include any information that US feels is vital to getting our point across ((again, to repeat what was said before, I'm willing to do so in case haters find a way to see who sets up pages like that and want someone to harrass, and I can't sit by and watch my friends get bullied)), but it doesn't necessarily have to be me.
Just a thought on a title ((really bad thought)) ... Dr Zhivago - Where's Our Recording?!

Sorry hadn't read this thread first. As I don't use FB. I've set up an account in my name but not activated it yet. If you want we could use that to setup a page for this. As I don't have any interest in FB I've put very little detail in and restricted all access until we decide what to do.
Can we use messages here to transfer drafts of things. If not then email is probably the best thing.
I wondered if we should try to have a name that would be picked up by people looking for other Dr Zhivago things. If we had a name very close to the DRZ FB page could that cause a problem? I was thinking of DR Zhivago Australian Cast Recording.

Well, if you're willing to use your account, that could work. At least you can't get much in the way of backlash. Messages are fine, if you'd rather do that than just stick it in this thread... I can't see any problems with putting it with a name like that. They can hardly complain... I don't think they can, anyway. And you're right that it's probably best to write something that comes up in searches... but, I guess, there's a limit to how many Dr Zhivago pages there will be around, so as long as it has that in the title? *shrug* |

I certainly want everyone to have input into this, that's really important. My only thought on using messages was that if someone puts something up that is unacceptable it is open and could cause a problem. I'm a little cautious about things like that.

I can understand that. I've always made drafts of things public so US could let me know if I've put something unacceptable in it from the get go, because I know I'm not the best judge of what's entirely appropriate or not.  I just created a test page to see how things are set up on FaceBook, and I've got Fred to look it up to to see what she can see. Admins ((page creators)) aren't shown. There's a way to accurately catagorise the page once it's made, but the only options that would suit ((having put it under Causes and Community)) would be Other and Community. I'm wondering if maybe this should be classified as a Non-Profit Organisation, like the Love Should Die page is, for example? There's all sorts of features here that I'm quite familiar with already, so I know how to edit the bits and pieces on the page, but it shouldn't be too hard to learn for whoever ends up being the Admin. There's a nifty little feature that allows you to use the page as your FaceBook so you can receive notifications on updates made to the page by the people who like it, and you can switch back to your account at any time. |

Marie-Cris & Fredus Would you mind setting the page up. I forgot I’m going to be away for 4 days this week with no internet access. I’m concerned that we will loose our window of opportunity if I wait until I get back and if I set things up before I go I won’t be able to monitor things and put right any problems. You are probably more familiar with the process by the sounds of things. I will help as much as I can before I go away. Just tell me what you need doing. The offer of two tracks from a show as epic as this is almost an insult albeit that the tracks are very special and the performances by both Anthony Warlow and Lucy Maunder are wonderful. What about the other outstanding songs and the performers who have worked so hard to bring this show to the Australian public. Wouldn’t it be a nice gesture by the producers to release the cast recording as a big thank you to Australians for making this show the success it is. Perhaps they should remember that a show couldn’t be a success unless the public pay to see it. There is also the incentive that they will be getting paid for the CD. Most people prefer a CD rather than a download and are willing to pay for that privilege. (A full recording on CD not just two tracks) The production of an Australian cast recording is unlikely to impact on any future cast recordings sales indeed many Australian would buy an Australian cast recording but would never buy a version by an overseas cast particularly when an Australian cast version had not been released. The producers have missed a golden opportunity to win the Australian public over and promote more successful musical theatre premiers in this country. What next GIVE US OUR CD! WHERE’S OUR RECORDING? Contact the producers and anyone else you think appropriate and state your feelings about this situation. Some links have been provided which maybe of help. We could get a free Wanted poster stock image and put the CD on the cover as the page image.
We might want to mention in there somewhere during the Contact paragraph that we'd like more information on why this is happening ((we want to know the full story, after all)).

Great idea. We must be careful about using any copyright logos and like but I'm sure we can come up with something that is fitting.
I'm sure a lot of people would like to know why they are not going ahead with the "recording" (I suspect they have already done the recording).
There are a lot of disgruntled people putting things on the DRZ FB . This could be a good chance to capture them. Stirke while the irons hot!

EDIT: Just wondering about the poster, what people's thoughts are on this ... should I use the snippet of Lara's eyes, or the full logo, or a picture of Warlow as Zhivago? Giz, would you let me put part of your image on the poster? ((There'd be full credit of course, but it's okay if you don't want me to)) |

Great job guys
We need to be careful about using logos. It upsets people. Using something belonging to one of us is safer. We don't want this to just be an Anthony thing so something more generic might be better. I'll have a think today.
I'll try to have a closer look at the page tonight for any suggestions, one thing I would suggest is that the email sent by Paybill might need identifying it looks as if the text just runs from it to our stuff. (Hope that make sense).
Once again thanks for doing all the hard work.

I was thinking that too, but there's not a lot of images available that represents Zhivago ... unless I use the original movie cover, and ... I'd rather not. I'll play around with some of the photos of the show on the net and Lara's eyes, but giz, if I've got your permission I'd really like to use the updated version of your drawing.
As for the e-mail section, I don't know how to do italics or anything like that on FaceBook. I've tried both codes but they don't seem to work. I'll keep trying them but I don't think there is a way for the dext to be different ((aside from all caps, and that would suck)).

I'm glad the poster's okay, but the best part is all thanks to you, giz. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to credit you by putting a link to your DA page of that picture so people. It'll be in the comment of the photo, as I can't seem to put a photo description on it.
By the way, if anyone finds any interesting articles about the Zhivago recording, feel free to post them on the page. I've posted one up that Fred found for starters.

Nine down, fifty million to go.  I like the poster too. It's an awesome drawing (hurrah for Giz!), and it's a cool wanted thingy... the burn marks are cool. I googled to find that article, and there's one in reserve - probably don't want to use them all in the first day - but I couldn't find much. However, I'm not all that tech-savvy, so I could easily miss useful things. Not to mention the fact that I don't read any newspapers or anything at all, so I'm not likely to find anything useful there. |
