Mar, i'm loving your idea of Ant's version of the whole Feed the World thingy... really liking that! And my God - Daryl Sommers should be strung up by the neck until he swears never again to appear on television or talk/sing/breathe in public!!!! UGH! But yes - an Anthony Warlow Christmas album..... sigh.... it's like a soft, warm, wonderful pillow.... but for the ear... coz it's music.... and it's not a phyiscal object... so that whole metaphor is pretty silly, and i'll go hide in a corner now.... *scurries away*

*passes bikki* I better stop handing out food or there will be nothing left for the Gala!
Just so we get a bit back on track, I was listening to the live version of Oh Holy Night last night; did anybody else notice that he was rushing the beginning? It took a moment but eventually he and the band evened out.

I just had a listen and i did notice it, but probably wouldn't have without notification. Good spot, Mar! *salute* But they all blended together nicely in no time.

Alas, one of the curses of studying music is that you tend to mentally pick them apart. Not intentionally at times, but it happens.

And one of teh great things about not being musically trained is that it's very difficult for you to pick up on the little mistakes!!

But it's ok Mar, coz you still love the song and the singer and it just makes your listening more detailed, having that trained ear. *nods vigorously*

Ah, yes. ;D If I was so well trained I could take up a career as a critic ((critique?)); I've got the penmanship for it at least XD And the odd mistake isn't gonna deter me from fandom; it's whacks in a sense of reality that he's human and not a god ((maybe a demi god. Or a demi-semi god. Or a - *whip*))

I am guilty of often missing Carols nights through December. Does Anthony usually perform in either Sydney or Melbourne? Does someone really need to consider sending him an invite?

As far as I know of he hasn't been in one; although we don't generally watch the carols broadcasts here ((mainly because my folks - father in particular - likes to channel surf)). I know David Hobson has had his share of carolling, but if Warlow's ever been on there I'd be kicking myself for missing yet another broadcast. Actually ... he might have. For where did that live recording of O Holy Night come from?! Somebody, anybody, please tell me that performance wasn't video recorded! I don't want to be kicking myself again.

I'll be checking them out this year more carefully. There's a very good possibility that he might be, due to the fact that Phantom is on everyone's radar this year, thus increasing Anthony's profile dramatically in the general populace again. He has been a sleeper for a while...in terms of a broader awareness. You know, those who only pay attention to the arts (and then only carols) once a year........strange, I know.

Anthony has actually performed at the Melbourne Carols by Candelight twice.
First time he had just finished Phantom in early December 1991 and participated in the Christmas Eve event. He sang "O Come All Ye Faithful", "A Christmas Song" "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and O Holy Night.
Second time was in December 1993 when he was making his comeback from cancer treatments. That year he sang "Come All Ye Faithful", "White Christmas" and "O Holy Night".
I too was wondering if he will perform this year as Christmas Eve is a Monday night, the only night they do not perform Phantom.

Actually I also have some vague memory of Anthony appearing on the Carols at the Domain in Sydney when he was doing Annie. I remember seeing it but was out at the time so I never recorded. Problem is that most of these Carol appearances were well before many members of this list were born.

We started rehearsing for 9 Lessons and Carols last week and are doing "In the Bleak Mid Winter". Not the usual Gustav Holst tune but one by English composer Harold Darke composed for King's College Choir. It opens with a treble solo verse which I do then has a baritone/tenorial solo verse (which my son Alex does)then the choir sings the last two. It is beautiful and gentle and totally divine. Christina Rosetti's words are also lovely and simple. A bit out of place in some parts of Australia, but we've had snow on the mountain here in the southern capital quite a few times at Christmas so it fits in well here. You can never quite predict whether you will need an overcoat and heaters or a dress and a fan for midnight Mass! So that's my contribution for the Christmas album. (Last time we sang it Alex got very confused in rehearsal with the lines and sang out beautifully of a "Manger full of milk and a breast full of hay"!!!! Luckily he got it right in performance!

LOL!! You guys do 9 Lessons and Carols too, huh? I had to sing Silent Night as a solo with a ... umm ... dolcima as accompianment. I have no idea what I'm doing this year'. Probably O Taste and See again. But I think the choir are definetely doing Hallelujah ((not the Hallelujah chorus, we always do that on Carols by Candlelight)). I've got a practice tonight so I'll be able to figure it out then ... it's a "very Rutter Christmas", as we're doing several compositions from John(?) Rutter like Twelve Days of Christmas and his recently published version of Silent Night ... We're unfortunately also doing We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Just thought i'd whack this in here, even though it's majorly OT - Emmy Rossum (film POTO's Christine) has a Christmas EP coming out, so if you want to hear some samples, see below: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZJ5KVK/ref=dm_sp_albI'm really hoping Cinta and i can go to the Chistmas concert at the Opera House again this year, if it's on.... seeing David Hobson jump about like a kangaroo while singing "Six White Boomers" was a sight i'll never forget!

Oh you lucky things Neh & Cinta. Just the thought of David Hobson jumping around like any animal would be enough to give me a permanent grin for a day!
We not only do 9 lessons and Carols on the Sunday b4 Christmas, but we also do Advent Carol Service (again based on the King's College and other great British University College choirs) which is on this Sunday Night and then Midnight Mass with brass & tympany (mainly from TSO) on Christmas Eve. Very traditional with it commencing in darkness lit only by candles with Silent Night and we do all the descants with the brass and it's just the best night. Usually end up singing for at least an hour of the one and a half hour service and end up with no voice but we go into recess for a month to recover so it doesn't matter. Follow that with a gourmet champagne supper for the 200 or so who turn up which I cater for and generally wend my way homeward at about 2.30 on Christmas Morning a very happy panda. Surprisingly few cars on the road at that time on Christmas Day!!! I used to sing in the cathedral choir as well so we then had to front up at 8 and then 10 on Christmas Day but gave that up. Besides, the choir I am in now is better and we have more fun!
PS We need to find a Chrismas smilie!

That reminds me, I still need to upload that heap-load of smilies MuLo directed me to ...
I know there's a "make your own smilie" page somewhere but it didn't have any Christmasy things when I saw it ((ages ago, forgot the url)). Tried to make a bunch of Cpt. Corcoran smilies but I couldn't find the right hat.
