It's not from a musical and it's not even his usual type of song, but It's one of my favorite's: The Living Tree (by Shirley Bassey). I'd REALLY love to hear him sing the Winterreise cycle.

Oh, I should add that I LOVE Scarlet Pimpernel, so anything from that would be lovely as well.

I'd love to hear Anthony try these out:
The very thought of you Fly me to the moon Beyond the sea Me & Mrs Jones

Had a thought in my waking hours last night. I would like him to sing two Frank Sinatra standards, "In the Wee Small Hours" & "All the Way" plus anything Nat King Cole or Tony Bennett recorded. I would also like him to do a duet with me of an 80's song I used to like called "Friends & Lovers" which was originally recorded by Gloria Loring and Carl Anderson.

Now you've got me thinking what it would sound like if he did It's Only a Paper Moon.
((I would've said Mona Lisa but all those theories and the Da Vinci Code near killed the magic of that song for me)).

I know this is totally different from what he normally sings but I would love to hear Anthony's interpretation of the Hunter and Collectors song "Throw your arms around me". I would love to hear him do the various harmonies at the end too. For people who do not know the song - here is a good version by Doug Anthony All Stars (defunct Aussie comedy trio). www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j0g2oG_w2g

OMG, how'd you think of that one? ((I've got a copy of the Hunters and Collector's version on my Yr' 12 Commemorative CD; haven't listened to it in a while))

I know basically it's a sad song about a couple who may part but maybe it's the images I get in my mind at the thought of Anthony singing "I will kiss you in 4 places" or "So shed your skin and lets get started" and then the invitation to "Throw your arms around me".

I'm totally with Lucinab on the Winterreise cycle. He mentioned at one point that he made an exercise of learning it during his illness so hopefully he'll actually record it one day. I'd adore it even more if he recorded Vaughan Williams' "Songs of Travel" cycle too. Some of my favourite music and I think his voice would fit it beautifully. In a similar vein, John Ireland's "The Vagabond" & Gerald Finzi's "Fear No More the Heat o' the Sun" would be heavenly under his command.
In terms of Musicals: "Marry Me A Little" from Company; Javert's Soliloquy from Les Mis & "The Schmuel Song" from The Last Five Years. I also second "Why God, Why" and fourth/fifth anything from either role in Pimpernel.

Javert's Soliloquy? Oh, Javert's Suicide! That'd be interesting. Mind I do rather love Quast's grunge as he's "plummeting off the bridge" so Warlow'd have to do quite a bit to win me over with that.
Ooh, a challenge ...

Javert's Suicide... Soliloquy... whichever you like. Such a powerful song. It would indeed take quite a performance to equal Philip Quast's amazing rendition, I quite agree! He is Javert and that's more than enough but still, I would just love to hear Anth's take on the role. Heck, I'd love to hear Anth's take on just about any role.

I have waited for years to hear Anthony sing "The Rose". It's one of those songs that instantly brings me to tears and can so easily be interpreted in subtly different ways. "The Rose" is a versatile song that contains different meanings for different people.
Also, I'd have to consider "La Donna Mobile"
And lastly, if it was still an original concept and hadn't already been done by everyone with a recording contract, I'd have liked to hear "Nella Fantasia". However, it's been done to death recently, which is a real shame. I LOVE the sound and the dramatic impact it has when played on a great stereo system.
However, if I was lucky enough to score front row seats at a solo show, with a beautifully powerful orchestra and Anthony took to the stage to sing "Nella Fantasia", I would not complain!! (Mind you, in that situation, if he took to the stage to sing the phone book - I'd be ecstatic!)
They're my thoughts for now. There's bound to be more!
Cheers MuLo

I know this is totally different from what he normally sings but I would love to hear Anthony's interpretation of the Hunter and Collectors song "Throw your arms around me". Hmmm, the whole idea of Anthony performing a song about a tawdry one-night stand is somewhat unappealing to me! He'd do a great job and sound fantastic, but the subject matter seems off target. That's just what I think, for what it's worth. Most likely the moral pedastal I have him on is waaaaay too high to maintain! ;D

I agree with mulo - 'The Rose' and 'La Donna Mobile' are two of my FAVORITE songs! Good thinking. I always cry when I hear 'The Rose' too. Can't listen to it in public . . . And 'Nella Fantasia' would be lovely. . .maybe it is overdone, but I guess maybe everybody wants to sing it because it is so beautiful.

Oh, and mulo . . . the phone book thing . . . I couldn't agree more. Although, I'd even be deliriously happy if he just READ the phone book let alone SANG it!

I know - his speaking voice is oh-so lovely... so full of character, and warmth.... I STILL stand by my dream of hearing him do "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast - that would make me a most happy panda!

I did follow-spots at "Beauty and the Beast" for a three week run last year. I find the whole show to be inconsistent with its entertainment value. Some really great songs followed by some long minutes of sheer boredom.
However, "If I Can't Love Her" was a show stopper for me at every performance. Very hard to maintain the integrity of the follow spot when I was too busy concentrating on the Beasts performance instead of my own!!
"Gaston" is another very enjoyable number in that show.
I agree, to take "If I Can't Love Her" out of the show and into a solo concert would prove be a very powerful crowd-pleaser!
Cheers MuLo

Yeah neh, his speaking voice is just so lovely!
I'd love him to do a CD of poems, especially Shakespear, Shelley, Burns etc. Oooooh could I ever give him a list of beautiful poems, that his voice would be just perfect for! *toast*

Oh Jazz what an inspired idea!!!!! *bows* *bows* *bows* *bows* *bows* *bows*
Shakespearean sonnets, or Elizabeth Barrett Browning or WB Yeats or John Betjeman are all personal favourites of mine. I have a couple of poetry anthologies which contain poems of love and loss (my fave is called "For Weddings and A Funeral) which I quite often read to myself when feeling blue or lonely. Now I will be able to hear Ant's voice reciting them in my head.
I second the choice of "If I Can't Have Her" & "Gaston". Would expect he'd make a good Lumiere as well. Hehehehehehe.
What a co-incidence MuLo. I was a dresser for a production of Beauty and the Beast for my old school's School of Performing Arts' production last year. Very elaborate costumes and soooo many costume changes for Belle (I was her dresser). Most of the principal's although still at school were also Conservatorium students so exceptionally talented cast and great fun to be involved with. Costume designer was one of the Mums who had been a professional costumer in a previous life. Visually stunning for a school production. But I agree about the too much dialogue.
"Something Good" from Sound of Music would be nice to, with me as Maria naturally!!! (Sorry Mar!!) I always fancied Captain Von Trapp (or maybe it was just Christopher Plummer) as a little girl.

I don't think I've got any Blake, so I don't recall ... all I've got are Wadsworth and ... umm ... *runs to bookshelf, returns* Dickens? I really need to get more poetry. I don't even own anything from Shakespeare.
