I'm a waitress at the local hotel. Everything was fine until they opened up Oscar's Bar Café downstairs. The café is fine, sure, and people like to go there to eat, but they opened the bloody thing without building a kitchen on to it, so the waitresses have to trek from the kitchen, across the hotel, down the stairs to Oscar's Bar and then out to the café to deliver meals. Going about the dining room with heavy plates is bad enough, so the walk is quite a bitch; especially since I have a ... thing ... about going down stairs ...
And it doesn't help the nerves when there's a function being held at Oscar's, so you have to walk in and out with these meals headed for the bar with all these people watching you.
Because of it I made a real cock-up today and sent a meal to the wrong table ((but they had the same order)), so the people who I was meant to deliver to first demanded to speak to management. I told Peg ((my boss)) after I'd finished a few other delivers that the whole thing was my fault and she said it was all sorted and that I didn't have to apologise, which was rather relieving considering that I had spent that time panicking that I might get fired.
Okay, yes, I'm venting.

Venting is understandable. That doesn't sound like any fun at all.

It isn't. None of the waitresses like doing the trek ((at least that I know of)). We've heard they'll build a kitchen down there ((where is quite the question ...)) but no one knows how long it'll take. I wouldn't mind waitressesing at the café so long as there was a kitchen down there.

It's My Fair Lady vs. Phantom... who will win? (Now that I've said that, what are the odds neither wins? )

No, no! AT least one of them must! Cinta saw MFL, the lucky bugger, and she said next to Phantom it was one of the greatest evenings she's ever spent in a theatre (and she saw Rich!Higgins, not Reg!Higgins, thank goodness)
BOOYEH! Spring Awakening has a nom; i only read reviews but the production design looked awesome and supposedly the performances were good stuff And Little Women's up too; lovely

I wanted to go to MFL, but certain circumstances, along with the rather ridiculous price tag (I mean, $40 for Pirates one year then $90+ the next for MFL? WTF?) prevented me

I saw it and loved it! My sister actually fell asleep during it... Who does that?!

How can you fall asleep at a musical or opera? I can understand people falling asleep at the ballet or orchestral performances (I see people do it all the time), but at a musical or opera there's just so much happening! Granted, I was so sleep deprived by the Saturday night in Sydney I almost dozed off in MotN. Still, I snapped awake pretty fast!

Some operas it's understandable; some of the ones on SBS are just a snooze fest ((not all of them; they do show good ones now and again)). A musical? That I can't quite understand.

It was strange... she's always tired though so I guess it was to be expected. Plus she's not really a theatre person. Now I'm just making excuses for her! *shakes head* No excuses.

Opera on TV is easy to doze off to, but opera live I can't get.

Well, time to write the rest of my LAS reviews... I know it’s very late, but better late than never right? So Friday night next... As Son mentioned we had quite possibly the rudest people behind us this night, they were talking and laughing throughout the whole thing. The show itself was great, Anthony brought on the anger some more. A lot of growling and grunting. Very intense. His cape got stuck for a bit, but being the true professional he is, he got through it. Although I’m sure he ripped something to take it off. One funny moment was during the pre Don Juan Triumphant premier scene. Someone was a little slow on the sound board. It went like this: *Roy shoots at box 5* Alex: Fool! I said only when the time comes! Roy: But Monsieur Le Vicomte *mics cut out* he was right there! *slight pause, audience laughter* Alex: Listen to me; it’s important that everything goes according to plan! So I’ll have no buts from you please! Anthony: No buts! For once Monsieur Le Vicomte is right... Very funny, they did well covering that one. During the curtain call we got some great looks from Jackie Saturday matinee we got Simon and Julie. We had front row seats, right in the middle which was great! We were sitting there before the start of the show chatting when Guy Simpson went to his spot and was talking with the orchestra. Let’s just say he has incredible hearing! We whispered his name so quietly and he turned around and had a little chat with us. We’d met him the night before and he was incredibly nice. He is such an energetic conductor, he really gets into it. Both Simon and Julie were great. We could see Simon in the mirror before we were meant to, for some reason he was moving his head quite a bit back there! Everything went well, no technical problems. Had a funny moment with Roy when he was the marksman. When he popped up he looked to the right, then looked to the left and saw us... and gave us a nod and tip of the hat. That sent Nik and I off laughing. Another standing ovation from US and more big smiles from the cast. We even got a wave from Julie when we cheered for her. Saturday night was Simon and Julie again. Julie had told us at the stage door after the matinee that she was all finished so we assumed Ana would be on. I got to talk to Richard in the pit and asked if Ana was OK, he said she was just resting her voice for the Sunday which was good. I can’t think of anything out of the ordinary that happened. Oh, at the curtain call when the row with Roy came forward, I did a “woo!” at Roy... and he gave us a wink. Also had Jackie and David laughing again, and they even shouted “woo!” themselves! It was hilarious. As for the LAS... what can I say? Like any last show it was amazing! As Son said, the atmosphere was electric. The cast had a lot of fun. DRS held his “has” for an extremely long time. What we noticed in Auckland was that when Anthony or Simon had to go up top for Il Muto, there was always a LOT of noise to the side where they climb up. Not sure why that is. On the Sunday it was quite noticeable and Son and I kept giving each other little looks and laughing. When Ant was up there he was looking out way before the light showed him, which we of course saw, then when the lights did come on... he was looking directly at us. After he ran off, I looked at Son, she looked at me and I mouthed “was he just looking at us?!” She nodded and we looked at the others who were also laughing about it. Each time, he looked right at us. Then during the reprise, the girls said he was again looking straight down at them. Everything else went perfectly. Another moment with Roy (there were quite a few that week) when he was the marksman. When he popped up he scared the people in front which made him start to laugh, so he looked away to compose himself. Except he looked right at us and Nik and I were laughing about it which made him keep laughing so we had to look away! It was hilarious. Poor Roy! At the end of the last note the US group started clapping and cheering which made everyone else start too, it was great. We got up from the dancers onwards, and had some very rude people behind us telling us to sit down. They were even grabbing our clothes! After every scream they said “sit down”, and Son turned at one point and said “stand up!” Then I turned around and said “it’s called a standing ovation” and just ignored them. I mean really, how rude to not even give the cast a standing ovation at their last show. The cast loved it though, they all had big smiles and Jackie and David shouted “woo!” again. Stage door was fun, we met all the cast again. Gave Alex a little gift, a bungy jumping sheep, which he loved. Also gave Roy a little present. Anthony came out and had quite a few people surround him. We of course stayed back and just chatted amongst ourselves, and had other cast members come up to us and chat. Funny moment happened when we saw Guy inside stage door. He saw us and we laughed and I waved to him (don’t know if the others did, they were behind me) and at that point Ant had turned to look at us and see what we were laughing about and saw us waving at Guy. Guy smiled and came out to talk to us. Then Anthony came up to us and gave Guy a hug. He stayed and talked to us for a while. Some of us got programs signed and most of us got a photo with him. Ana came out afterwards and chatted to us for quite a while. She’s so sweet! So that was the end of the LAS week. It was great fun, all the shows were amazing in their own way and all the cast were so nice and giving of their time to stay and chat to us. But most of all I had a fantastic time with the people from this site, you guys were the best! Can’t wait until Perth!

What IS it with Kiwi's and standing ovations, its like there is some kind of anti-ovation field in effect in the civic...but actually telling people to SIT DOWN during an ovation, pulling on clothes?
If Anyone had the stupidity to do that to me there would be some rather harsh words back.

Well done on almost making Roy crack up! I so wish I could have gone. Anyone who pulled on my clothes while I was standing applauding would get severly smacked on the head with my program

Just words?
Ah, lovely review! It's good to be able to picture all of this, but poor Roy. That would've been a sight to see. I'm glad you all had a good time and I hope you all have a ball at LPS.

It was just so rude and we were shocked that people were actually telling us to sit back down! Obviously people in NZ don't understand the concept of a standing ovation. Well most people... sorry to our NZ members

I can't imagine people being so outraged over a flippin' standing ovation - heck, it's common theatre etiquette!!!!
But awesome review Jess; made me gleefully envious. Hehe, Roy laughing with you... hehe, a bungy jumping sheep for Alex.... it all just sounds too cute to be!
