You should try living in Hobart. NOTHING comes here. Our only theatre is gorgeous but very small. Way too small for big productions. Plays are about all we get, and then it's obscure stuff, nothing that tours nationally. The only large venue is the Entertainment Centre which holds 5000 or so but is only suitable for concerts or arena stuff. Sooooo, no professional musicals - ever, or opera. Last time OA did anything here was 1999, and then with cast no-one had ever heard of. Having a population of 200,000 only doesn't help either, and the fact that the island is split into 3 regions and people won't travel two hours here to see something, they just complain that it doesn't go to Launceston and Devonport as well!!

We have been so fortunate in Melbourne to get all the major shows. I was looking at Roys site the other day (which I can not access now as it needs a flash upgrade) and he announced he would be alternating with Simon doing a matinee once a week. His calendar showed Roy had performed the last couple of Wednesdays which leaves Simon doing Saturday. Hence, I reckon there still could be a good chance Anthony will do Sunday (keep your fingers crossed Nikita). After all, I am guessing the major concern would be doing two performances on one day so therefore the need to cut the Sat & Wed matinee from Anthony schedule. Bust as there was only ever one performance on Sunday, Anthony may do it. And as to those stupid remarks regarding Anthony not being on stage much - its all about quality not quantity. Image putting how long these morons would last on that emotional rollercoaster everyday. "I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries."

While I understand the disappointment, some people just behaved so uncivilized. The latest comment under the article has gone beyond my tolerance. I'm feeling so disappointed in some of these Brisbane audience.

Guys, I just went to a preferredseating.com. On the page for purchasing Phantom tickets it states, "Please Note- Producers Statement - Thursday, 21st February 2008, Anthony Warlow will not be performing on Wednesday and Saturday matinees. Following medical advice, doctors have advised that Anthony should not perform any more than six performances per week to do so may damage his voice. The decision to exclude matinees from his schedule is to allow him the maximum recovery time between performances. The role of the Phantom will be shared by Simon Pryce and Roy Weissensteiner at the matinees, both of whom have received audience acclaim for their performances."
So looks like he's on for Sundays! *dance*

There is an article in today's Courier Mail...I tried to find it online, but no success. Won't type the whole thing out, but highlights are o.k. yeah? Promise I won't leave out anything important :-)
The main point of the article is to explain and empathise with matinee audiences and to allow a little insight into the man himself.
The article is titled: Modesty behind the Masquerade
To quote Anthony:
Regarding people who won't see him at matinees: "I'm disappointed for them but I don't want them to see me not doing a good show"
"We've got a long way to go. We've got five months in Sydney, three months in New Zealand and then Perth, which will take me to April '09"
(note: he said Perth :-))
Stresses that he doesn't want to get overworked and stressed again because he "wonders if it was this combination which almost killed him" 16 years ago. "I vowed and declared I'd never again put myself through anything that was going to compromise my health because I want to be able to do what I do well. It's all about the vocal turnaround" i.e. only once per day to avoid fatigue.
Talks about public and private:
"When I'm in this environment talking to you or I'm doing an interview on radio, people say I'm a show pony. I am, but I'm also a very private person" "When I'm not doing the show and the work has stopped, I walk into a restaurant and I'm shy, yet when I'm in the show when people come up with their phones and want to take my picture, I can handle it because it's almost like I'm wearing an armour." "When the show is finished, that comes off and I become soft centred again. I become absolutely reclusive when I'm not working to the point where I question whether I can actually do it again."
Talks about Phoebe:
"She has a voice but she is actually a beautiful ballet dancer and she's doing full-time ballet now which is quite extraordinary. It's wonderful to watch your offspring - she's our only child."
When asked if he is her mentor:
"No, not really a mentor. I didn't want to be one of those parents who said: This is how you've got to do it." "She's got to learn her own way. I can be there to guide her but I don't want her to be a carbon copy of me." "But one of the reasons I do recordings - I have my own label now - is so she will have something to remember me by when I'm gone."
Talks about rose garden at home:
"I've got 44 varieties. I cut them and smell them but my wife Celia does all the work. My hands are too delicate," he jokes, extending smooth skinned palms.
About his daily routine:
"Because of the nature of the show, I'm out of it until 11 in the morning. Just crashed. Then I get up and the routine starts. It's not about having liquid lunches and a great celebrity time," he says. "It's absolutely routine and it can be boring but that's the job I'm doing and I want to do it really well."
"When this season is finished I think it will be farewell to the Phantom," he says, "but then there was that famous Bond movie - what was it called? Never Say Never Again?"
Love Emony

I found myself wondering when he finds time to eat properly? Lunch - o.k. but surely you don't want to have an evening meal for at least a couple of hours before going on at 7.30....maybe grazing is the trick? Got to get all your vitamins. I doubt he's eating dinner at 10.30 if adhering to his getting to bed before midnight rule. Damn straight you'd need a strict routine. I'm sure he's got it all worked out.

More and more I find similarities between him and I ... it's rather creepy.
Now I really AM tempted to sing Never Say Never from An American Tale to him. XD

Well I've imagined him pretty good at it too. In that backstage interview of Pirates of Penzance he just looks natural and comfortable sitting at the piano. The piano matches him well. And the way he hits the keyboard looks quite professional too. I've thought that at least he could probably accompany himself to some simple songs.

Speaking of B&B, I had a mini freak out the other day when I realised I must've seen Hugh Jackman as Gaston. XD

I'm jealous of the fact you've just seen B&B; good grief!! I've always been confused about Jackman's involvement with it because in interviews he's always said he played Beast, and when I got the recording he played Gaston. So ... maybe alternate leads, or understudies, or ... something. But if he played Gaston live that makes more sense as to why he was Gaston on the recording.

I was only around eight at the time so unfortunately couldn't appreciate the line, "We'll be the perfect pair, just like my thighs." XD But yes, he was definitely Gaston on-stage. Wikipedia knows all (though perhaps a more reliable source is the friend that informed me).

Wikipedia knowing all is debatable. They don't even know how long Ant has been married for. (("some years'." Pha! If I could edit that section I would!))
Plus they refused to acknowledge Unexpected Song ...

Don't be silly. Ant's not married. >.>
Refused to acknowledge us in what respect? Did you try to add a link to here or something?
No, but Jackman really was in it; my friend is knowledgeable about this sort of thing. You have no idea how much wild flailing ensued when she told me. I do quite like him, especially in The Prestige. But not X-Men. I just can't get into those superhero films. *shrugs*
Now, if it was SuperANT...
