Well, I haven't actually "met" him or have any pictures with him. (What a dream come true that would be!) But in Trial By Jury last year, Anthony passed through Row B whilst I was sitting in Row A. When he came to me, he said in his drunken voice "Hello dear, how are you?" and I spent the whole rest of the show not paying attention because I was on a high- Anthony had actually spoken to me!!! I have been on a high since.... lol.

"You know there's not a girl in town who wouldn't love to be in your shoes." I myself have never actually seen any of his performances (BLASPHEMY! *WHACK!*), and I'm really kicking myself over how close I came to seeing The Mikado last year' ... *sighs* Okay, I might as well cut out a big chunk of history and get close to the point: In my little town we have an event called Music on the Murray which happens bi-annually (I think that's the word). It's fairly recent; 2003 we had David Thelander and Deberah Carr (I'm horrible at spelling names, just so you know) from the (SA) State Opera Company; 2005 we had Julie Anthony (those of you who know about Julie Anthony's background can figure out which little town I'm residing in right now); next year' we're having a bunch from the Melbourne Opera Company - I think ... Well, I'm a High Soprano in the [town] Community Choir; I've been a part of the choir since I was 13 ("discovered" at 12), so naturally I've been a part of Music on the Murray. What happens is the [town] Community Choir, the [another town] Choir (or "Vocal Group" ... something like that), and the Adelaide Philharmonia Choir and Orchestra all combine to create a 200-voice choir. We all hop on a two-ferry barge (two old farrys pushed together) that's anchored to the [town] riverfront of the Murray and sing the night away ... it's amazing, I love it. The point? The point is I'm not finished *hears annoyed groans* Though each of the choirs has their own Musical Director, the man who leads us on the night in question (the event now runs from Friday-Sunday, so the large choir bit is on the Saturday) is none other than the Adelaide Philarmonia Choir/Orchestra Musical Director Timothy Sexton. I HAVE WORKED WITH THIS MAN, PEOPLES! (and he's a bit of a flirt ) Last year', before Tim could come up to [town] to start MOTM rehersals with the combined Riverland Choir (mine and the other choir in question), he was down in Adelaide directing ANTHONY WARLOW in THE MIKADO. I am honest-to-the-Goddess kicking myself; I should have asked my musical director for Tim's number so I could ask him if he could score me 2 discount tickets, but did I? Nooooo, too friggen coy, too friggen polite. Once The Mikado was finished Tim came up ("It was fun.") and we started rehersals, yadda yadda yadda. I could've seen him. IN MY HOME STATE, I could've seen him. What really gets my goose is that I didn't know ANTHONY WARLOW came to the Riverland until I heard a taped recording of him being interviewed by Riverland radio presenter Kerri Lush (cousin to Julie Lush: a.k.a. Julie Anthony). GAAAAAAAAAH! I'm such a sod! Warlow, IN MY STATE. Warlow, IN MY REGION. And did I meet him? No. Did I see him? No. Am I an idiot? Hell yeah. *pants for breath*

AWwww. What a shame you missed it! Mikado with Anthony would have been so darn awesome. However, make sure you make it to Pirates! It's going to be awesome!

I'm in a production of Les Miz at the moment... Sean, the man playing Javert, was in the chorus when Anthony did My Fair Lady, and get this - he's going to be in Anthony's Pirates of Penzance!
*has heart-attack*
Ok, here's a better story, though I still have to admit to not having met him. I was in year 10 at school last year and we had to do work experience. Somehow I got accepted into Opera Australia, and had the most fantastic week - I didn't get to see Trial/Pinafore rehearsals because it had opened a few weeks before but I did get to see rehearsals for Le boheme and Don Giovanni - I met Cheryl Barker, who advised me about my forthcoming opera career, and Teddy Tahu Rhodes (who told me that my hair, dyed pink at the time, was nice!)
But back to the point. I saw Anthony's costume (it was hanging on a rack in the costumes section with a post it note on the back saying "HMS Pinafore - Sydney - Warlow". And I saw his shoes because there were all these shelves in the costume department that were filled with shoes, all labeled.
I walked where he walked! I opened a door he opened! I raved to my supervisor about him and she stared blankly at me!
A heavenly week.

*Squee!* So lucky! I'd love to walk where he walked ... I'd love to do a lot more, but let's not get into that right now *goes into closet for a while*
Out of sheer curiosity ((meow)), when and where will Pirates be shown? Will it tour a couple of states, or will it just stay in one place? I love listening to his little pirate laugh in I Am A Pirate King and if I got to see/hear him do that live ... I'd die happy.

The advertising for it has started and according to the mailing list for OA, it will start in August. As for where it will go... that I can't say. Because it is kind of a follow-on from Pinafore/Trial, in all probability it will go to Melbourne and Sydney, but because it's a popular show they might record it, and just might send it to other states.
In equal curiosity, has there been a CD released to complement the Pianfore/Trial DVD, like Patience? Or do I have to go to all the effort of ripping the music off the DVD to get the tracks...?
(you know what I love about Pirate King Song? "ooh, it's a key change!" I'll never get sick of that.)

((I love that bit too! Cacked myself when I first heard it))
To be honest, I have no idea about a cd for Pinafore; I've only just started colecting his albums ((I would have earlier, but they weren't easy to access before this year)) and I know very little about his works ((shame on me; I still love him)). I have to ORDER Midnight Dreaming ... gah. You'd think stores here would support an aussie artists ...
I really wish he'd come back to Adelaide ((damn me and my coy nature! Damn damn damn!)); I hope the show tours here too ((but it's SA ... why does this state have to be so friggen slack?)); I'd really love to see it.

Alright, I can't seem to find the article that said it, and now I feel like an idiot. I was probably wrong. *Feels terrible* I just thought I read somewhere that it would be in Adelaide in January. *shrugs* I'm so sorry. let's hope it's true and you'll hear more of it later.
No, I have no problems: I live about an hour from Sydney.

Ah har har har har ... *mumble* I know Adelaide sucks; when I move there I'm hoping to change all that ... someday. I actually despise the thought of living in the city ((cities give me stomach aches)), but it'll be necessary for my studies and ... so forth. I wanna bring musical theatre back to Adelaide ((yes it's here, but only just)). I want to be involved in G&S shows, shows by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Buicusse ((sorry if not right)), The Rocky Horror Show ... I want ...
I want Warlow. Obvious. But that's the impossible dream.
Don't feel bad. I'll see him someday, that I know; and if he doesn't come to Adelaide I won't be so surprised ((Ijust like 'm not surprised Bon Jovi chose all the other state capitals save Adelaide for his tours)). Aggravated for a moment, but otherwise fine.

Oh dear - and i thought Sydney had it rough with not getting enough good shows - i'd hate to be in Adelaide! I believe that Aus in general needs a good kick up the pants performance wise, in terms of what they produce, where and when and how often. Kookabura Theatre opened this year in Sydney and it's meant to be soley dedicated to musical theatre, so if it gets up and running, that could be groovy. Anyhoos, my Ant experience. I'm lazy so i'm just gonna cut and paste my story from back in April (in another thread i put Feb, but it was April... i'm simply senile!) HERE'S MY POST OF OLD:
Well, firstly may i say one should never hold such a show in a vineyard: it may look and sound picturesque and its fine for Jazz in the Vines etc. because that is music which can stand background noise. But when its with a singer such as Anthony, with both music and lyrics deserving of our undivided attention - noisy drunk people are'nt my favourite cup of tea!!!I swear, i wanted to punjab some idiots... Anyhoo. He began with swing... from memory starting with "They cant take that away from me". He does this genre well of course but as my fav of his swing numbers "Under my Skin" didnt end up being present, i had my heart set on the musical showstoppers. I didnt expect an interval, as it was only a 2 hour show... but after only a collection of about 6 scattered numbers (not in performance - in timing) - a good portion of first half went to the (very good) supporting solo sax player - it was break. As our seats werent near the stage at all - we had a lovely view of the satge and the area as a whole though - and i wanted photos where we could actually see his handsome face, i edged up and sat on the grass right by stage left with other who had just paid for a picnic ticket. I had done this at the beginning of the show to get a lovely shot as he walked out, but a mean security guy obviously thought me a dangerous groupie and asked me to go back to my seat .... dam him! Anyway (and i apologise to all for how very disjointed this is reading!) i sat there for about 20 mins, during what was possibly the best section of the show... and i feel bad saying that coz it was mostly impressions - some clangers of Jerry Lewis (always loved that one!), Cary Grant and Micheal Crawford. But he did "World of Pure Imagination" and "This is the Moment" and i think one other while i sitting there, and there were moments when he'd look directly my way and i'd just sigh and smile... i probably did look like a pathetic groupie, sittin there on the hill with my head in my hands, grinning like an idiot! Yes - well, at one point he was chatting away, being charming and he made to inroduce TITM by saying "and they ran by the me this idea for a new stage musical based on the play and novel Jekyyl and Hyde" and myself and this girl behind me cheered straight away as we knew what was coming and he smiled and pointed at us and said "well, at least two people have read it!" and we waved and cheered! Exciting! I felt special... even if he has SPOKEN to Cinta.... grrr....! Well, yes he ended with one everyone was hanging out for .... "Rubber Ducky"! No, Music of course! He mixed most of his Broadway tunes into a very clever medley thingy... quite effective, though it would have been nice to hear them all fully. He did a surprise choice for Les Mis - "Emp[ty Chairs" whereas i expected "Bring him Home" - though to be fair neither were his! Yeah... i'm tired from writing... it was great! I love him so very much!

Awe, wow, that's so amazing! I would've died if that was me; any attention from Warlow at all would put me in overload.
Although I don't think I would've even made it past the front gate; I consider myself to surfing on a wave of dangerous infatuation ((not "kill the wife, get the man" infatuation, that's just creepy. I mean to the point where I might chuck my arms around him and give him a good smooch out of the blue))

Why are there so many things I still don't know about this man?

Oh yeah ... I wonder if Timothy Sexton got to know him a bit when they did The Mikado together in Adelaide? I know he said that "he's nice" but that doesn't really let on much, does it? I must ask him when I see him next; at the end of this year' or at the start of the next, I don't know when. But I simply MUST leech some information out of him! *grumbles about th elucky sod*

I've worked with him twice for the past two Music on the Murray's; that's just a local musical event in our town, it's wonderful, I love it ((and it's only in MY TOWN!!! Take THAT Renmark!)). When auditions for the solo parts start up in September ((or something like that)) he'll be back up here, so I'll either ask him then or when he returns for more rehearsals with our part of the combined choir further into the year' close to the event.
Unless the rumours happen to be true and he DOES retire from his stations as conductor for the Adelaide Philharmonia Choir and Orchestra ... I'm of two minds about this. I don't want him to not come back for next year's MotM so I can get the info, but I DO not want him to come back because he's a terrible flirt. His wife looks like a fairer version of him ((a bit short and stoutish, but she's got the blonde)), and as my Vocal Teacher muttered to me during the after-party of the last MotM: "No wonder he flirts." ((mean, but seriously, he flirts with anything young that at least has a shred of talent *hates self for writing the word*))

Make that a Chinese sausage and I'll take that as a compliment ((I hate sausages!)) It'll probably be a "wtf" moment for her when she returns ... yeah I'm evil.
We got home from the city at about 1 last night. My. First. Opera. *SQUEEEEEEE!* It was brilliant. Dull but brilliant. XD lol I really suck at describing atmosphere. I liked it. It's not the best performance I've ever seen but it's the only professional performance I've seen live so ... I liked it. Denbigh, I gotta say I'm beginning to understand it a bit better. I'm slightly more intrigued by Hobson now that I've seen/heard him live. RANDOM FACT: David Hobson had a big grey stain on his pirate TIGHTS near his crotch. Yes Denbigh, you got me staring at his crotch. I wasn't too impressed by Campbell. Mum loved him, but it didn't blow me away ((good, not great)). Mind I was disappointed in Warlow's interpretation, so there wasn't much of a chance that Campbell would sit better in my books ((Jon English, on the other hand ... )). Tayrn Fiebig was wonderful, as I suspected she would be. Man, those notes; when you finally step out of the ensemble and get the chance to listen to the voices it's always a realisation as to how good they really are. So to hear it from professionals brought tears to my eyes. Seriously. The only awkward moment in the entire performance was after Mabel's and Frederic's departing love song. They really stunned the audience; even I paused for a moment ((and I know what it feels like to give that effect to an audience, but I'd never actually felt it for myself)). When the spell wore off and we started clapping Hobson decided he'd had enough and continued with the dialogue ((I think I may have annoyed him; whenever I'm in an audience I'm the loudest one there [unless freakin' Linda Moore is in the audience too, in which case she's the loudest]. I was laughing throughout the whole thing because I felt they deserved to have people laugh at the jokes, so I became sort of the laugh instigator. Problem is I hate my laugh. So do other people. And as I was in the 4th row, I think he heard me. He certainly cast a shadowed glance my way. I felt like a drunk)). Cat Like Tread had two encores. Campbell and Hobson started doing the can-can like the policemen behind them in the last one, and though the audience screamed for more I think Stephen Mould, the Adelaide conductor, was just sick of it and wouldn't continue. David Thelander surprised me. When he performed with us on Music on the Murray his baritone voice frightened me. But last night I found it rather ... je ne sois qua. Oh, oh, OH: And guess who was the artistic director? Timothy Sexton. Suzanne Johnston was an absolute marvel. I learnt a lot of techniques from watching her; I loved how she twitched in the face just big enough for the balcony viewers to see, but not big enough to be over exaggeration ((and that red dress! I want that dress!)). During the bow I gave her a high thumb's up when she looked my way; she winked. I would've liked to have gotten her autograph ((as well as Hobson's)) but unfortunately I didn't have the time. Speaking of autographs, look who I ran into: Big image, dial-up users ...He was such a gentleman about it; I felt like a completely loser when I ran up from behind and panted: "Mr. Olsen, may I have your autograph?" *makes L sign on forehead* My mum blurted: "She wants to perform with you one day." I never even thought of that; I just wanted his autograph! But I said I was just studying at The Con., he asked what I was studying, I said: "C-C-Class-Classical Voice", and he wished me good luck with it with a cute little wink. What was embarrassing moreso was when I was producing the program for him to sign a leaflet fell out; I had bought a program but we had also found one someone had left at the cafe bar and had picked up, and I was handing him that one. The leaflet was about menopause. *thud* Well at least there's a little story to tell Samantha Mack ((head of the VET Music studies at the Elder School of Music/Elder Conservatorium/The Con.)) when I go back to uni; she got to actually perform with him. I wish I could've seen him when he did Patience in Adelaide early last year'. Oh well. On to Music on the Murray rehearsals tomorrow night. PS: Gonna quote this entry and put it in the Close Encounters thread
