Question: Does anyone know anything about a Sharyn Whinney working in either this or any other production of Phantom? Well she wasn't in the 96-97 production that came to Brisbane, consulted the program and couldn't find her.

Goodness, it pays to be old ;D Having just come across this thread, I went searching for and just found my Michael Crawford Phantom programme from LA, and the programme (and booklet) my Mother got when she went to see Phantom in Melbourne in 1990. She came back from that trip raving about this absolutely gorgeous young man who sang the role of Phantom ;D I refused to believe anyone could be better than Michael (what a fool I was ), so I stomped out and bought Centre Stage to make the comparison. I saw the light ;D!

Yep, I also raved about Anthony in 1990, only to find that no-one here had ever heard of him! Mind you, a lot of people still haven't. And perhaps that was one of the causes of the poor ticket sales in Auckland???

Urgh. I don't care to think about that.
Nik, I also couldn't help but wonder if this is some strange trial run for the upcoming sequel. *shudders*

Maybe the Australian theatre going public is a little more discriminating than we thought. HSM to close early

I like the female cast member who doesn't want to be named.

I like how they pushed that John Frost's shows just keep selling tickets, while teenybopper shows just fail.
((HSM- failtrain?))

Well it still means that it's going well, so hopefully it will have a normal last show as it has at all the other Australian cities and we don't have another LAS on our hands

Just don't cross the fingers on your left hand, and be glad I'm not coming to Perth. I have a black cat - and he crosses my path all the time

It was interesting to read that he'd described ticket sales for Perth and Adelaide as "exceeding target". Not the most effusive praise, that's for sure. Certainly no mention of "box office records" as there were for Melbourne and Sydney. This is why Anthony should come to Melbourne and never ever leave. Ever.

I still associate him with Woolongong! Can't help it... But it would be magical-ness if Phantom could return for a sustained Melbourne run, but that's just me wishing for a B'way atmosphere on Aussie shores - again!

I'm sure he lives in Sydney - Mosman? I don't think they have the Mosmon place any more...but he primarily lives in Sydney, with (I think) just the one other house in Melb. Unwinding- Yes. Yes he should.

Back slightly on topic, does anyone here know the sequence of this company after LADS? What is the order of countries they are going in? Because I'm guessing this is an English cast, and it might not work too well if they go to countries where English is not exactly their first country Unless of course they are replacing all the cast and its just the company thats going on...

The production is going to tour Asia after Australia, with the first stop being Taipei, Taiwan. (Read that from the local Taiwan paper.) There'll be major changes to the casts, of course, but it'll stay as an English production. This isn't the first time phantoms toured Asia. I think the last Asian POTO tour is about 2~3 year ago and starred Brad Little as the Phantom and Marni Raab as Christine. Our adorable Ana was the alt. Christine in the tour. Few of our current Australian cast members were in the production as well. (Nadia, John O'May, Jackie Rees...etc.) Japan has their own POTO production, in Japanese, still running after 20 years. There is also going to be revival of Korean production of the Phantom sometime this/next year. There is a rumoured Russian production which is still just speculations at this stage. It's going to be a busy year for phantom!
