Is there a mango vegetable? Why did she need to add the word "fruit"? This is one of the many questions that arise after reading this piece of quality literature.

Sucking on a mango vegetable just doesn't have the same ring (or accuracy).

Wasn't the "So i hid behind that groups of trees" one from that Phantom / Enchanted crossover?

I've only just read the first 4 chapters and "that group of trees" was at the end of the funeral in Emptiness, and I haven't read the other fanfics yet............. it's starting to become addictive!

I remember purchasing a book oh-so-subtly entitled Music of the Night, whose blurb promised masks and disfigurements and a subserviant relationship and obsession and all such things - and whilst it actually turned out to have nothing to do with Phantom, it proved to be one of the funniest pieces of erotic trash i've ever read - well worth the 50 cents! I do plan one day to buy a heap of Phan novels for insanely cheap prices... just so Kay's Phantom can feel even more superior sitting on the shelf.
Great find Nik - bless little Johnny in his Young Talent Time days!

Wasn't the "So i hid behind that groups of trees" one from that Phantom / Enchanted crossover? Nope, like Poppy said, that line was uttered during the funeral scene by none other than Monsieur le Fantome himself. I think that was what cracked me up the most about that chapter: the fact that Erik had been reduced to an idiot, just like with the, "But you didn't know what it was like when you died!" comment. *headdesk*

Argh, so much stuff to catch up on! (half of which I don't understand ) Although I'm a little disappointed I wasn't around to defend against the sheep quip a few pages back *grumblesunderbreath* I have a question for you folk about the earlier POTO programs. How different is the Melbourne program from the Auckland one? I was wanting to try and find one (since John Bowles didn't come over here)...but yeah, I was wondering how else it differed; like are the pictures the same?? I was thinking of trying my luck with the whole playbill.com thing and seeing what the luck of the draw gave me but I couldn't believe they wanted to charge me $21.50 Aussie dollars for shipping. JUST SHIPPING!! That's more than the damn program would have cost!! Anyway. Just wanted to know if it was even worth it to look for another copy; coz if it's mostly similar, I think I can live without it until I find a really cheap copy somewhere. Also, anyone have programs from the old tour? Would love to compare notes with other people on these since the performers changed quite a bit throughout the tour (okay, I'm suffering withdrawal >.<)

The Melbourne ones didn't have a page for Simon and Roy ... I'm going to have to check mine for the differences, I can't remember them right now.

The Melb one also didn't feature the lovely Dimples photoshopping Also, Ant's bio changed slightly, what with there no longer being a "Anthony Warlow IS The Phantom" sign....or a Princess theatre either! Aside from that the only thing that changed was the orchestra and technician listings, as well as Simon and Roy getting pages. Think that was all.

I adore the coffin one. My image is probably not so G-rated as the fic had in mind though.

Thanks Marie-Cris and killerbananas for the info ;D I think I can do without the program for now then
I just watched the 1943 POTO film adaption - man, it played just like one of those funky alternate universe fanfic things. The blurb said 'based on the book...' but I had no idea how loosely based >.< The Phantom was some composing ex-violinist of the opera house who happened to have had acid poured on his face in a recent accident, Christine was just a random French chorus girl who was getting voice lessons not directly from him but through lessons secretly funded by him (she had no real character at all, not to mention a background story or anything) and Raoul was a POLICE DETECTIVE with a funky looking moustache that looked like it could be peeled off at any moment, battling for this Christine's affections with the leading baritone of the opera.
While I mostly had a permanent frown on my face the entire show (I was sort of confused; kinda misleading that they advertised it as 'based on the book'), I did think the Raoul/random baritone Garron competing for Christine thing was pretty funny ;D As far as changing it up and making it believable, I didn't think it did too great a job, but meh...I just needed to rant a bit about it since my family just laughed at me >.<

Oh, and Phantom of the Paradise.

Hey, I like Phantom of the Paradise. Alot.

Phantom of Paradise...is that the one with the deranged disc jockey Phantom and the band singing PhoenixChristine? I saw a copy of that for sale online recently, but I refrained. Now I'm getting conflicting messages as to whether it's worth seeing ;D
What's the telekinetic rats about?

Blech.
And ... yeah, that's it. It's really odd. I wouldn't say I like it but I wouldn't say I hate it either. But you have to see it for the sake of seeing it.

If anything, avoid the telekinetic rats. Or look up the three part abridged Phanwank version on YouTube. Phantom of the Paradise is best viewed if you try not to overly compare it to Leroux Phantom- just admit it has similarities but then view them as drastically different stories. Alcohol helps too

I assume the telekinetic rats may refer to the Argento Phantom, in which the ever-spooky Julian Sands had long hair, a penchant for smelling scarves and no mask or disfigurement? A doozy, that one I've always wondered, should someone film Kay's Phantom as a miniseries? ? Or would that kill it not-so softly?

Chimaera, if you keep a look out on TradeMe you might find one. I got one from the 1990 Melbourne show, but unfortunately it did not have the little booklet inside it.

I was probably being greedy as I already have two from when I saw the show way back then, but I saw it listed and no-one else seemed interested - so I thought why not.

Yeah, TradeMe has surprises popping up every now and then actually. I've seen a couple of Australian ones from the first tour but none from the current -_- I continue to faithfully (obsessively?) check.
I have one from Auckland 1997 with the little cast booklet; I actually bought one off TradeMe coz I thought my parents had chucked the one they bought (which they hadn't; we managed to find it). Quite a few familiar faces ;D

Question: Does anyone know anything about a Sharyn Whinney working in either this or any other production of Phantom?
