Glad to have you with us jacobi and any rant that contains Ant is a GOOD RANT AROUND HERE! I'm so glad you got to see him after travelling such a long way, I can understand your feeling so down before the show, if he hadn't been on the dissapointment would have been terrible. My husband, daughter and I are flying from Syd. in Sept. for just one night to see him in the show, so we'll be praying he's on that night! Oh... by the way Mar stop running in circles or you'll do some more damage to yourself! Hope you feel better!

Welcome here Jacobi!! Glad that you got to see him!
I heard from the yahoo group that Anthony missed the show last night again. Oh, the poor dear! May our rants scare the flu away from him. And I hope you all get the chance to see Anthony.

Me too, me too! Mum, when is it you're going again? I must go back and check.... Cinta and i are Sep 8th. And Belle, if rants can make the flu scarce, then i truly should be a doctor! I'd certainly be happy to provide such an important service as to rid Phantom cast members of illness through my ramblings!

neh we see the show Sept 29th... wish it was the same day as you and cinta! We could have met up for dinner or lunch etc. Seriously I think I would have a meltdown if he's not on the night we go... this has cost me about $1500 (so far!) for the 3 of us to fly, stay and see the show. But the disappointment to me would be immeasurable if he wasn't on that night, I really feel for all those people that are missing him at the moment. I'm sure that the pressure on him to go on even in ill health must be terrible, the poor man!

Once again great link Windbelle. Some fantastic photos.
You would all be relieved to hear that it was on the radio this morning and a snipet in the Herald Sun that Anthony will be back performing from tonight. Our get well wishes must have worked.

And virtual rambling-transferred-into-good-vibrations! I swear, we're like MAGIC fans, we are! Hurray for Ant's return!!!! *happy dance in circles, with occassional throwing of flowers* And mum, the day you go to see Ant is in fact the day Cinta and i go to see Miss Saigon, so at least we can each sit at our shows and know the other is having a lovely time also! We both have the same concerns as you though, with flying down to see the show and stay a few nights and then if he can't come on - i swear, i'll both cry and break something - even if it's only ripping my program, i will physically destroy something!

You're lucky you'll be staying a few nights - you're lucky to be going at all, I'm still waiting for the greenlight ((DAAAAAAAAMNIT!)) When / If I go most likely it'll only be for one night. It's be nice to get to know Melbourne better as I intend to move there someday ((as to stop me from missing out on all these wonderful shows!))

Not to worry, but you know this made me think... we all should try to see him somewhere/sometime together, as many of us that can that is! It could be Phantom or whatever he does next.

Yes, i agree that would be super. If we could somehow pick a location that all of us Aussies could manage to get to ...... it would be beyond brilliant!

I can't honestly imagine anyone actually having both the disloyalty and the sheer lack of appreciation to give Ant's Phantom a bad review... if such a person exists, i wish them executed!

I totally agree, but the Aussie press love a chance to knock our stars - so I was a little worried! If any had dared - we could have given them a 'Bloody Good Stoning!' as Brian would say.

I'm always very thankful for all the things and information posted on this forum and also feel so guilty I can't return anything. I just come back from Melbourne to Japan and I hope I could tell you my unforgettable day there!
Our stay was only 4 nights from the 2nd Aug, and I'd booked two shows - the 2nd and the 5th. I'd learned he'd suffered from flu before I left, however I hoped he would get well by the 2nd at the latest. I was, therefore, really shocked when I couldn't find his name on the cast board, arriving the theatere. Actually I couldn't understand what that meant. After that, I went to the theatere everyday to see if Anthony had come back to the stage, but I was just told that he'd been very sick for weeks and no one knew when he could perform again. On the 5th, the day before we go back home, we went to the theatere, not trying to expect too much, though I couldn't stop wishing there would be his name on the board! There it was! I was more than happy and did appreciate my luck. It was Sunday matinee and there were a lot of children accompanied by their mothers/fathers. I think he did not want to disappoint these children and this kind thought gave him energy to come back to the stage.
Eventually I saw two different phantoms - Anthony and his understudy, Simon Pryce. Simon's phantom was not bad, but I sometimes had feeling that there was a slight conflict between the emotion and action in his phantom. I think it's because he tried to perform Anthony's phantom as an understudy, not his own. If he did his own "phantom", then I suppose his phantom should be more wonderful.
Anyway, Anthony's phantom was just stunningly splendid and impressive. An old lady sitting next to me, who'd seen some "phantoms" in other countries, said 'he is the best phantom in the world!'. I totally agree with her! I've never seen such a powerful, energetic, emotional, solitary, pitiful and beautiful phantom! I realized again his singing is stunning, but more than that, I was deeply impressed with his acting - so convincing, elegant and powerful. It was just amazing we could feel the phantom's emotion even by just looking at act of his hands!
Ana Marina is also the best Christin I've ever seen. Her Christin is so beautiful and attractive enough for the phantom fall in love with. I like her voice and singing, too. I thought her voice and Anthony's come quite harmonious.
This Australian production must be the best in the world. I hope as many of this forum as possible will have a chance to go to see the show. I wish I could see it again!

I'm so glad you did actually get to see Anthony mhoshiko, and your decription of his performance makes me want to jump on a plane to Melb. right now! I know I should be grateful that I'll get to see him in Sept. (and I am), but its such a long time till Sept. I hope you enjoyed the time you spent in Aust. even if you didn't get to see Anthony for the first of your two shows. It must have been bitterly disappointing for you to find he wasnt't going to be on, especially after travelling all that way. You are a 'True Blue Fan' as we say here in Aust.

Wow am I envious of you!!
Glad that you got to see him, and thanks for sharing with us your experience!! I wish I could fly to Melbourne too.
Poor Anthony. He must be really sick that he had to miss almost a week's performances. I think he must feel sorry too for the fans who went to see him last week. But anyway he's back and let's not stop our well wishes that I hope would keep the virus and troubles away from him and the cast.

Hi mhoshiko. I am so glad you got to see Anthony because the passion and pain in his voice truely elevates the "Phantom" experience.
Just a quick snipet from the diary in today's Age newspaper.
"A Phantom of a Star"
Illness kept Anthony Warlow out of the key role in The Phantom of the Opera for a week from the opening night. However, after several medical examinations and a heavy course of antibiotics, the star returned for Sunday's matinee.
Understudy Simon Pryce had been filing the role, but at a recent matinee he couldn't get the chandelier to obey the script: it stayed fixed to the celing. Phantom publicist Eileen O'Shea said it was the result of a computer error stemming from safety mechanisms, with it happily dropping ever since to shock the punters.

Thank you for the kind messages, jazzgirl1960, windbelle and scuffa. I again deeply appreciate my luck, knowing he returned to the stage just on the day, Aug. 2! I just found a nice review from the MusicalFans.net, which is exactly what I felt from the show. www.musicalfans.net/forums/index.php?s=032b46301f53ab88f15e37d6b1732f61&showtopic=19066&pid=668036&st=0entry668036One more thing I forgot to mention. Anthony's return seemed to have given an elevated atmosphere to the whole stage - all the casts looked acting more powerfully with less restraint. I think this tells very well that he is actually the mainstay of this company!
