Aye, and what a fine way to be introduced to him! I watched Hey Hey It's Saturday but his voice blinded me!

Got some presents for this thread. Erik and Christine aren't too happy about ALW's plans for this so-called sequel:

Ha!!! Ahahahaha. You guys are hilarious! Again, the fangirls hate him (even all Raouls) because of Gerry... and because they are in love with his (Gerry's) face... The other day at school, I was having a conversation at lunch time with another Phantom enthusiast (or so I thought)... she was in love with the movie... and Gerry... And she was all 'oh I hate Raoul because he is ugly and Christine chose him over Gerry... and Gerry is the ONLY Phantom in the world. I've never seen anyone else'. One, I said, the movie isn't that great, two, I said that just because in the movie you think Raoul is ugly doesn't mean you stereotype all Raouls, and three, GERRY IS NOT THE ONLY PHANTOM YOU WEIRDO, HE IS THE WORST.' She didn't believe me. Then she was wondering who this 'Anthony' I was going on about was. And so I explained that he IS the best Phantom ever... she still didn't believe me. I then played her 'Music of the Night' from Centre Stage. She said that she no longer thought of Gerry as a 'god of song'. I am not pleased. haha wow the stroy of my life....its always fun to prove gerry fans wrong and convert them to ant

I love it! I feel as if I have achieved something!
I also have finally made my sister realise that Gerry cannot sing... despite his looks. She is obsessed with good looking guys... she is 13. She will soon get over it.
And I love making people see that Ant is THE Phantom!!!
Ah, my friend Beth right, she is like 'Oh I love The Phantom! It's the best movie!' (this is the friend who I made see that Gerry is not good) and I finally made her see.
And yeah.

Exactly!!! God I know how you feel. The movies aren't the greatest thing... the stage shows are... the movies just show it all a little differently.

^ "It's a different beast" as Ant would say!
There's a new girl at our school who apparently loves the Phantom movie- I feel it's time to put out the iPod and picture packed organiser to begin conversion XD

I love it how the beast is infront of you... out of control and amazing... not controlled by a tv remote in a square box. I mean, I love theatre productions on tape... the movies have their good and points... but there is something that makes me feel alive, when watching... no... experiencing... live theatre right infront of you.
It captivates me.

precisely.....movies are so impersonal but with the actor in front of you and so human, the detail, with the live orchestra, with live voices... it could never compare to movies.
and for some reason they like to decide to get people who cant sing in the main role i mean its only the phantom the largest, powerful and horrific role broadway has ever seen but lets give it to some random who's had no classical training and ISNT a singer!!! and oh he looks attractive sure he's hired!! and for Sweeney well its all about the fame...instead of getting a singer lets get an actor everybody knows...it'll be half arsed but at least they know who the actor is...no offence to johnny btw i love him.

Look on the bright side; they roped in Alan Rickman. PLEASE tell me they moulded his character to make it worth watching.

to tell you that truth and i think it was because of the costumes i couldn't stop staring at his crotch haha So true! I don't even find the guy attractive but damn, it was right there! XD Live theatre is awesome, particularly when you're in the front row and get conspiratorial grins from the actors. That gives you a warm and fuzzy sensation that movies could never replicate.

Wait a minute, wait a minute ... are you suggesting Rickman pulled a Jareth like he did in Romeo and Juliet?

Step 1: Watch Labyrinth Step 2: Watch the BBC version of Romeo and Juliet Step 3: Let me know if there's a connection between those two and Sweeney Todd and I'll buy the DVD as soon as it comes out, just for that reason.

Hahaha I saw Sweeny Todd yesterday.
Alan Rickmans pants are well... not inconspicuous... to put it lightly.
I tried so hard not to laugh. My friends thought I was having a fit, where I thought my brain was going to explode from extreme supression of laughter.
I soon got over it after around five minutes.
Still funny though...

i came across an interesting article just now, in the ie section of the herald sun: Phantom sequel on its way here "The real Phantom may have left Melbourne for Brisbane, but its sequel is on his way. The Phantom of Paris is in production in Germany and is thought to be on its way to Australia. It will open in London later this year and a spokeswoman for the Australian publicity firm says it will come here about a year later, The musical composed by Peer Raben, who died suddenly last year while he was still working on the piece, continues the journey of the disfigured Phantom as he reaches a moment of enlightenment about his vengeful past and returns to the Opera House as a different man. Christine and Raoul however, remain unchanged."
