How's it going today Neh? Any better? You can get Nurofen in liquid form too so that might help with swelling etc. I am living on soup for the first two weeks after my root canal - and gin! Had first stage a couple of months ago and became a whiz with different soup styles. Of course, living in Tassie, soup is pretty much a staple food. I make ahuge pot every weekend in winter and then it does me for work lunches and dinners all week. You would be surprised the different varieties you can come up with!! My nephew calls me the "Soup Mistress" cos he loves them so much!!!!
Hope MRI went well too Jazz - can't call you Mum as I fear i may have the jump on you age wise! Hope it wasn't as bad as you were expecting. Checking NineMSN for news updates but so far no reference to women running amok in radiology suite. Ant thoughts kept me sane during the dreaded "root canal" - such a dreadful term. Friend at work said trust me, the closest thing I've had to a root in 10 years and they choose the wrong canal!!!!!! XD XD XD XD XD

That's okay neh, you need to relax. I'm just racking my brains trying to work this all out ((when I really should be doing my Job Search Training homework ... which I hate too)).

Stupid MRi had better show something that the medical profession can fix, cause it's made it worse at the moment and I'm pissed off! Neck, shoulder and arm are driving me made today... non stop tingling, twitching and on and of pain! Now I have to drive (pretty much with one hand), for an hour to my lest fav. job... at least I finish early today! Looking for any sort of silver lining in living today! The stupid boss had better not piss me of today, like he did last week or he's likely to get an ear full today! *whip*

I hate giving any medical advise since I'm certainly not a doctor (or a nurse), but, jazzgirl1960 - if your neck, arm, and shoulder bother you - all tingly and painful, you might try a chiropractor. I only suggest that because I used to have headaches - daily, and ALL day long. And I wasn't making it up either. My mom took me to a chiropractor, one that didn't pull on you and crack things, but one that used technology that is used on the NASA space station! Anyway, it worked wonders! No more headaches. No more aches in general. Anyway, there's my unsolicited two-cents worth. I hope you feel better soon. But you know, some of the best cures are the simplest. I wouldn't let any doctor talk me into surgery unless I had used up EVERY last option. . . Get well soon. Oh, and a stressful job probably isn't making you feel any better physically or mentally . . . Believe it or not, but most "illnesses" are stress related.
I've been up and down a VERY bumpy road myself, once upon a time, so I sorta feel I've "earned my stripes" to say my piece . . . sorry if I'm being pushy . . .

Thanks all advice and ideas gratefully accepted... but it's a workers compensation injury and I can't do anything except what the doctors and physio say I can do and quite frankly, they are doing bugger all to help me! My hubby Brian see a chiro every few months, they really help with his neck pain and headaches, so once we get the MRI info, they may let me try something new. I can pick up my MRI pics and report tomorrow pm, so don't know what to hope for... something they can fix or nothing? I don't want surgery but physio for 5 months hasn't done much... so I don't know what happens next. But I'm bloody sick of it all, that's for sure! An how is our neh today? Hope the pain is starting to ease off as you begin to heel.

I had a workers comp back injury a few years ago Jazz (what nurse hasn't) and while I thought I was dreading the result, it was actually a relief to see that there was something structurally wrong that could be worked on and that it wasn't all in my head or a condition that no-one could find a cause for. We do a lot of neurosurgery at my work and the vast majority of patients are really amazed when they regain consciousness and feel the benefit almost immediately if it's a disc problem. I also work a lot with chronic pain patients (in fact I do everything but cardiac surgery) and pain specialists can also do wonders with blocks as well. My chronic pain specialist (they are usually anaesthetists who further specialise) also works very closely with clinical psychologists to help find better ways of coping with the pain. Pain management is a very complex thing (I've just finished writing an article on it) and it is amazing the number of factors that can exacerbate the body's response to pain. I really feel for you and hope the Ant-love helps - sort of like aromatherapy. *Thinks - Maybe we could start a whole new branch of alternative or complementary therapies - Antherapy. By George I think she's got it!!!!!* Must be working for Neh. She sounds a bit better today. Almost usual cheeky self. of course that could just be the drugs!!! ;D

I think we need a dictionary thread.
This isn't a vent, I'm just saying this because Antherapy is the second latest Ant-word I've seen in the past few minutes.
General board, perhaps ... ?

Okay - here's two bootleg audios of songs from the upcoming Sweeney Tood filn, with Johnny Depp and Helena Boharm Carter. Now i like said actors very much, but NOT in these roles, no no and NO! Tim Burton has a screw or 7 loose when he cast this film; the only truly capable singer is Laura Michelle Kelly playing the Beggar Woman - she's the only one with proper musical theatre experience. But the grave has been dug - it's too late now! So, ready yourself people! Epiphany: www.sendspace.com/file/l633u7*i'll try to get it in megaupload form if need be My Friends (was two parts, combined and cleaned up): www.megaupload.com/?d=CJ1NWVSV

Went to opening night of Opera Australia's Sweeney Todd this year with Judi Conelli Antoinette Halloran and Peter Coleman Wright. It was fantastic, but I can't imagine it being sung by non-singers! It is a huge sing with complex rhythms and difficult intervals etc etc like all Sondheim stuff I guess. Also had the incredible fortune to be asked to the opening night party in the Green Room. That was a very surreal experience. I kept smiling at people I thought I knew to later realise they were Margaret Throsby, Bronwyn Bishop, Stuart Maunder or Moffat Oxenbould. Invite came about because the friend I went to Sydney with has a godson who is a dresser ("I only do the principals, luvvy!) with Opera Australia so we went to the party with him. There were a lot of pies served, and the room, which is at the very top of one of the sails upstairs from the Green Room was decorated the same as the set with a huge barbers chair as the centre piece. And before you ask, yes, the godson did dress the male principals for last year's run of Pirates but I can't bring myself to ask him any pertinent questions!!!!! It's enough to know that the hands that dressed Ant and David have held mine! *thud* *thud*

I went to that production of Sweeney too but how lucky are you Aunty Sandra?! I loved that cast, for the most part - it was a really great experience.
Yes Mar, Alan is the Judge and i'm sure he'll be fine... but i just sob over the thoughts of *others* in the roles - and of all the song cuts! Kiss Me! The friggin BALLAD!!!!! WHY? WHY?! And these were lurking about IMDB, coz there was a special screening of 3 musical numbers.

Hey Sandra, can you decipher any of this? Even though I've been a medical receptionist/practice manager for 17 years, this is way beyond my comprehension.
The conclusion for my neck MRI: At C5/6 there is a focal right posterior disc herniation compressing the thecal sac and causing slight flattening and compression of the right side of the cord but there is no signal change or myelomalacia. There is no foraminal stenosis, and no direct nerve root compression is seen although it does deform the thecal sac in the region of the proximal right C6 nerve root. At C6/7 there is a Small shallow broad based posterior disc bulge causing slight compression of the thecal sac but no significant canal stenossis and no cord compression or displacement
Shoulder MRI: The subscapularis tendon appears thickened and tendinotic but not torn. There is no muscle atrophy. There is very mild supraspinatus tendinosis, no tear. The other rotator cuff tendons appear normal and the biceps tendon appears normal. There is no subacromial bursitis.
I don't get to see the GP or Physio till next Tues. so any info you can give me is most welcome!
neh I'm sorry to hear that your IBS has flared up... my whole family suffers from it to various degrees, so we truly understand how horrible it makes you feel! But the liquid diet will be a real trial for you, I suspect. Have you mentioned it to you GP or specialist? They may have some ideas that could help, if not maybe the hospital dietitian could offer you some advice?

There is no muscle atrophy. There is very mild supraspinatus tendinosis, no tear. The other rotator cuff tendons appear normal and the biceps tendon appears normal. There is no subacromial bursitis. As far as the neck goes, you have a small disc bulge or herniation at C5/6 & C6/7 but there doesn't seem to be any bony structural damage (that's the bit about foraminal stenosis, which is good news) but it does press on the sheath (thecal sac) in the region of the C6 nerve root which is probably explaining your symptoms. Please remember I'm not a neurosurgeon but I do see lots of X-rays so this would be my interpretation of the report if I was reading it on a patient. The bit about the signal change just means that there is no severe nerve damage. Inflamed and damaged nerves send out a different signal on MRI. Treatment will depend on a specialist opinion I reckon. Some disc bulges go of their own accord and some require injection or surgery. It rather depends on how long you can put up with it and the opinion of specialist(s). We generally try for injection before surgery and that sometimes works. The shoulder is good news because there is no structural damage to all the muscles and tendons which make up the rotator cuff which is the structure that makes the shoulder joint function in the way it should - a rotator cuff tear needs fixing by surgery. It would seem that two of the tendons (subscapularis & supraspinatus) are inflamed but hopefully that will get better with rest, anti-inflammatories and maybe cortisone injections. Hope this helps a bit and I'm not too wrong!!!

Tuesday morning. Tomorrow we're leaving for Adelaide and after hunting around Elizabeth for some binoculars ((I hope I find some!!)) they'll drop me off at Caitlin's place. So unless I get on tomorrow somehow, this is my last night on until Thursday.
He was just being a dick as always. Things are settling down now but it wasn't pretty.
