My Rant is minor - is it just me and my computer, or has the shout box gone walkabouts again?
As well as the fact that these photos are taking me forever!

Wow, Claire, that's very brave! I don't think I could stand up to a hairdresser..... I'd just cower before them. It's sad they did a crap job on your hair though. You have such nice hair.

It's not just your comp Kylie; Shouty's gone again. Must be in hibernation. Looks like I need to pull Lil Shouty out from his hiding hole.

If a hairdresser screws up your hair, especially if you were very specific with a style request, there's no reason to be scared of saying your not happy with it- after all, if you bought a top at a department store then didn't like it, would you hesitate to take it back? Same principal.
Granted, after the last time I went to my non-regular hairdressers for foils I was disgusted- $90 and the foils didn't even reach my roots. I left with regrowth! Hence why I do my own hair now XD

That's fair brave to stand up to a hairdresser, I avoid hair salons as much as possible At the moment the common room has turned into a disease-box, because everyone's got the plague and we never have to leave- all our lessons and lockers and kitchen are up in our own little biosphere... so there's no way you can avoid getting really, really sick. Which is just what you need in yr 12

I got a message from uni today that went something like this: "5 ANU students and 1 staff member are currently in isolation as they have been exposed to the swine flu virus..."
what fun.

I'm sick of the media throwing Swine Flu totally out of proportion- unless you're very young, very old or in severly poor health, getting swine flu isn't any worse to your regular flu. But some doctors fear that it could mutate and become immune to anti-virals...which the news got hold of and are now proclaiming its a super bug. But really, the odds of you even needing to be hospitalised- should you catch it- are pretty low.
Stupid fearmongering news headlines >.<

Tell me about it - it's the mutation thing and the immunosuppression thing that has me slightly on my toes (but not fearful). I think I heard some doctor on the TV say he would rather have Ebola than swine flu . . . . . He can have it! Sheesh!
Thousands more people die from the normal flu every year than have died from swine flu yet . . . . but nipping it in the bud is always a good idea.

Although it's nice to think that maybe I got my irritating cough from you (timing probably doesn't work, but meh). Yay! Someone to blame!

Amen to that on the swine flu. I'm all for dealing with it before it becomes a real problem, but gosh, the media have really run wild with it. I suppose scare tactics have their merits -_-
I find myself rolling my eyes at the whole thing the majority of the time. A lot of the concern comes from the fact that the current flu jab doesn't cover the swine flu subtype; so there really isn't any way to control spread except isolating cases. Which could mean some kind of pandemic and the fear of it getting out of hand with mutation if it's not done right. I guess that's why the scare tactics are still in favour, since the more cautious (paranoid!) the public is, the more likely they are to identify cases asap.
But as far as the actual illness goes, as far as I'm aware, it's really no worse than the seasonal flu (milder, even?). I'm surprised that doctor said he'd rather have ebola, unless the quote was taken out of context.
Hehe actually, I went through a joke of a quarantine at Sydney airport, complete with face mask and a ride on the little airport buggy car. Good times! (don't worry, I was cleared *cough* bahaha ;D)

But really, the odds of you even needing to be hospitalised- should you catch it- are pretty low. Stupid fearmongering news headlines >.< Brargh, people just do not understand that these little critters mutate throughout their entire lives. There will always be a new kind of virus to combat. As for the anti-virals, they don't even kill them completely: by the time you're prescribed anti-virals all it will do is make your cold less severe. Sorry to tell you all but there's no way to wipe swine flu out. Like any micro-organism, viruses multiply and mutate at such an astoundingly fast rate that it's impossible to destroy them. Chi, you are completely right: for a healthy person, this thing is no worse than the normal flu. People with weaker immune systems (e.g. the elderly) need to be careful but they need to be careful with any disease. I didn't get my flu shot. Officials only suggest the shot for immuno-suppressed individuals. The rest of us will get a cold but we'll suck it up and move on. This whole "swine flu" panic makes me grit my teeth. There were also outbreaks in '76 and '88 and the world didn't end back then. Today Tonight seems to conveniently forget these facts.

Why do I live on top of a hill in one of Wellington's highest suburbs? Completely exposed to the weather in all directions. Gale force winds at the moment and 1/2 an hour ago it was snowing! The snow and sleet backed up on the windows about 9 inches high and is only melting away now. Its absolutely freezing.

Oh dear, snowing?!?!?! So glad I missed that when I lived there.
Think of the beautiful sunsets, walking through the bush on a summer's day .. I can highly recommend getting a fireplace if you haven't got one.. just lovely to sit and be mesmerised by on days like that.
Oddly, here in my little part of NZ, it's a beautiful day, blue sky, warm etc. I've been waiting for the crazy weather to hit... but have seen nothing. Weird.

Farmgirl - I envy you! Strangely enough I prefer winter to summer, but mild winter not this terrible weather we are having now. It just seems to be too early in the year for such terrible weather. I have a huge pile of washing and my dryer has broken down so the washing is just sitting waiting. Funny how appliances seem to break down in threes - just before I went to Adelaide I had to get a new dishwasher and microwave - now it's likely the dryer can't be fixed. Nik - I would love an Indian summer for a while - just so I can get the washing dry!!! It must be great to live where you can just put out the washing whenever you like and know it will dry.

Injeanious, I didn't realize it was snowing in parts of Welly! O.O It was pelting hail on my window in the morning, but I don't think we got snow here. I knew it was a good idea to stay indoors! >.<
farmgirl, I am jealous of your blue sky too >.<
PS. There are flocks of cockatoos where you are, Nik?! Cool! (minus the 'christening' of course)

^ If it makes you feel any better - I can only hang my washing up outside overnight (the sun fades your clothes in patches during the day). Then the trick is to get the washing back in before sunrise - otherwise the flocks of cockatoos "christen" your washing and you need to start over again (I've lost count of the number of times that's happened). And I have to wash my delicates in bottled water (the water here is so hard that the calcium actually eats holes into delicate/woollen fabrics). So there's definite trade-offs! XD Wow, that's a terrific number of laundry rules Nik, that's amazing. My dryer is on the blink too but the good news is it will still work for 20 minutes a time, it's under warranty, and Mum's dryer is only 15 minutes away ;D if anything else goes wrong with it. Sadly, my blue sky has gone and it's now gray, raining horizontally and the wind is positively Antarctic, it's so cold. I've just been outside rugging up my horses and moving goat houses and now I'm back inside I can't feel my ears or my nose and my head has developed an "ice cream" headache but without the ice cream. I think it might be winter ;D

I have to go back to work tomorrow, after two weeks off. I have a cough that won't go away, it's the last week of our yearly progressive sale - which means I'll have to help serve customers, and my mind is boggling at the thought of how many repairs I will have waiting in my box. So all in all - I DON'T WANT TO!!
