But bless you for rescuing said kitty anyway! I do hope that it can come to some sort of peace treaty with your own cat though; i know all too well the tension of cat-on-cat dislike.

Lamentabley, I had to hand the kitty over to the ranger. She has a micro-chip, so hopefully it'll be all good. Except it made me late to work, and although I rang and warned them I'd be late, by some huge coincidence this whole thing had to happen the day after my alarm didn't go off. So I was late to work yesterday.
The boss didn't mind so much that I was late today, though I only got half my lunch to make the time up, but he told me off for being late yesterday. Which was really interesting, because he wasn't even there. His wife worked - but she didn't start until 9, so she (theoretically) didn't know that I'd been late, so I came back to lunch early, to make up for it, and all was well. Except apparently she's all disappointed that I didn't tell her I was late (they knew because they were driving past when I got there.) She didn't tell me this, mind you. She went and asked the office lady what time I got in. Neither the shop manager or I thought of telling her that I was late, because ... well, I don't see why she would want to know. I made up the time, so she isn't losing anything. And it really bugs me that she went home and whinged to her husband instead of just asking me about it. It's not like we were all trying to hide it or something, it just didn't occur to anyone to mention it.
I seem to be having an irritation filled couple of days here.I think it's time for a weekend.

Aw, that really sucks. I know turning to food for comfort isn't the best advice, but maybe you could grab an extra teaspoon of honey.

Mmm... honey....
I had honey sandwiches for lunch today. I was craving them due to a conversation last night about honey and butter.

Convos about food always get me hungry.
I should probably eat. Sometime about now.

I've been turning to many cups of tea for my comfort this week. Coz i found out i'm going to be an aunty by this time next year, which ordinarily would sound like happy news, except it's going to be to my younger sister's baby so that's the part i'm not too jazzed about. But my anger and sadness is slowly abating into reluctant acceptance. Ugh, "Aunty Neh" wasnt a term i wanted to hear for at least another 5 years!

I'm sorry that you've both been sick, Poppy and Neh. And I hope you're both feeling better. Neh, I'm sorry your younger sister is pregnant. May I ask how old she is? And console yourself with the thought that it could be worse. The younger sister of one of my friends just had a baby. To a man that has been in gaol, has at least two other children by two different women, and he hits her. She's under the delusion that he loves her, so she's not going to run. Argh. Meanwhile, I'm sticking this rant under a spoiler. I wrote it before I wrote this bit. It involves swearing, so if you don't want to read it, don't look under the spoiler. Those fking assholes killed her!!! That cat that I rescued and handed over to the Rangers? They've killed her. They held on to her for seven days, then because no one claimed her, the bastards put her down. Oh wait, first they 'tested her for re-homing'. Apparently she was snappy and didn't get along with other cats. I know she didn't get along with cats, but why the f k is that an issue? Because, obviously the only people who could possibly want a re-homed cat are people that already have other cats. Idiots. And I kept her in my home for over 15hours, and she was never anything but friendly and affectionate towards me. Not in the slightest 'snappy'. I suppose there is a vague chance that the fact she was shut in a small cage for seven days in close proximity to other cats, which she would not have liked, may have made her a tiny bit grumpy? But I guess that, plus the fact that I mentioned several times that she was a lovely friendly little thing, isn't worth any consideration. And guess what? I told the fuckwit that picked her up that if she couldn't be re-homed I would take her back. I couldn't keep her, as she and Cricket didn't get along, but I know two people in my immediate family who would love to have a cat. I also asked him to keep me informed. Which he didn't do. Having not heard from him for over a week, I had to ring the council and try to find out what was going on. My theory is that he didn't pass on the information that she would have a home with me if they couldn't find her one, then when I rang up on Friday, by which time she was already dead, he suddenly remembered and had to come up with a good excuse. So despite the fact that I could have found her a home, and I had mentioned the fact that she was friendly to me, she wasn't considered 'safe' to be re-homed. He really said that - safe. Because a very small cat is a major danger in any household. But, hey, I guess we wouldn't want to have unsafe animals, would we? Oh hell, Cricket scratched me the other night. Maybe I could tell the Ranger and they could have fun putting him down too. Because he's terribly unsafe, you know. I am f king furious. I can't rememebr the last time I was this angry. And if I'd bloody well left her where she was, she'd still be alive. fk!Well, I'm never handing another animal over to the Rangers.

Oh Fredus, that is sad. But infortunately that seems to be how things work these days. I used to volunteer at the local SPCA and they have a policy that if a dog has pitbull lineage it is put down. No matter how friendly, tame, calm, gorgeous it may be - it is killed. BUT - they keep all the "staffy crosses" which to me are far worse than a pitbull. A friend of mine used to have a pitbull and I wasn't the least bit scared of it. But staffy crosses are another matter. Same as the pound here - they keep dogs for a certain number of days then they are put down. Several times they have had enquiries from people about missing dogs, say no your dog isn't here, turns out it is and they couldn't be bothered to have a proper look at the dogs, and then the dearly loved pet is put down. The system is so wrong.
There was a case in the Sunday papers of a Tongan family in Auckland who decided they didn't want their dog anymore so they killed it and threw it onto the barbeque for dinner. The fie brigade was called by neighbours because of the huge amount of smoke, the firemen called the SPCA and they took the carcass away, but unfortunately it is not against the law here to eat dog, so nothing happened.

I've been hearing all sorts of horror stories in the last day of so. There was a lady who went overseas, leaving her microchipped dog with a friend. It ran away, the rangers got it, no one answered the phone number that was attached to the dogs microchip number (obviously, what with them being overseas) and they put it down. After one day.
And apparently, at the moment there are so many dogs at the local pound at the moment that they are putting them down if no one has claimed them within three days. I'd be willing to bet that's what happened to this cat. No room, so you kill it.

Fred, don' t you worry - mum and i spent a good half hour ranting once i heard the news. We tend to take any event of cat cruelty or injustice to heart, so i was very upset to hear about this and i truly am so sorry. *cuddles* I told my cat Olly how lucky he was and that he should be extremely thankful, and of course he rolled his eyes and went back to sleep. This may be a stupid question Fred, but is there an RSPCA near you at all? I have no idea if they handle matters any differently from rangers, but i got my first cat from there and they seemed like a lovely bunch... but no doubt they are plagued with over population issues aswell.
Grrrrr to difficulties in defining male/female relationships. Grrr to it all!

Why do I get suckered into buying things over the net that then prove to be worthless? I signed up for a reflux diet which I found I could have got for free from another site. Then yesterday I purchased a diet which promised secrets that your doctor won't tell you - well the secrets were dieting with a friend and eating only fruit, vegetables and drinking only water. Right. I can see how you would loose weight doing that but how could you possibly stick to it? Also it was vegetables such as greens, onions, garlic etc, no potatoes or kumera or pumpkin etc and only fruit such as melons. What shall I have for lunch? How about an onion? Yeh right. I have got to learn to stop looking at the internet!!!!
Also I asked Showbiz when Jersey Boys was finishing in Melbourne - they told me that it was 31 Dec so I booked to go over for 3 nights after Christmas - now they are advertising tickets in late January and Qantas are offering packages up to 31 March. Grrrr!!!!! It will be wonderful seeing the show again then but I would have preferred to go during off-peak time!

Oh man, what a rip-off! And that diet wouldn't work because your body needs meat, or if not meat then at least nuts and legumes to replace it. But I completely sympathise with faults through the Internet. One of my students ((the one whose mum called me when I was in Adelaide to say they would be taking her to a different guitar teacher instead of giving me even so much as a trial)) has been going through one of those "HE'S DEAD OMG WOW HIS MUSIC IS SUDDENLY FANTASTIC!" phases and of course, being her, she hunted down for guitar chords on the Internet. The most unreliable source for guitar chord finding. I say this because although a fair few of the people who submit chords have a great to mediocre musical ear and can therefore write chords that sound at least close to what the original artist's chords are, there are a lot of idiots who stick random basic chords to songs and call it that. Turns out one of the songs she wants to do has had chords submitted by one of those people, who's written things like G, D, G, C, G, B7 and so forth when in fact the whole song is in the key of F! ... And despite all the good work I put into her last week to get her voice clear and strong, this week she went back to singing through her throat and nose and moving her head about like an owl with a sore neck. >)_<

Aw Mar, I understand how unbelievably frustrating it is to put hard work into teaching only to find they haven't taken any of it on board and have slipped back into their old habits during the week. And if you say it again it just feels so repetitive and nagging. Ugh. Stand strong!
I am annoyed at the moment because of a terrible display of stupidity on my behalf. For some reason, I thought Mikado weekend was the long weekend and had worked all my plans around having an extra day off. Fortunately I hadn't booked anything before I realised I had the wrong end of October. Now I just have to work out how the heck I'm going to get to Sydney. I can't afford to fly. But I'll be damned if I miss that performance. I'll ride my bike there if I have to.

Well I have another moan. I went up to Auckland on Saturday to see Mamma Mia. I had read in several different forums that it wasn't a parciularly wonderful show, but as I had booked my ticket and was in the front row I decided to carry on. Well, for a start I was right in the middle and the conductor was in front of me and he kept doing neck exercises - head down twice, head to the left twice etc - did this for ages and it was very distracting. The music was soooooo loud and then I realised why - to drown out the singers who couldn't sing. It really seemed like an amatuer performance even though all the cast were from England. I was really disappointed with the show. Also I think The Civic had moved the rail even closer to the front row, as I am sure it wasn't so close when I was in the front row for Phantom. My knees were touching the curtain and I am short. The only good thing about the evening was the meal I got from room service at Skycity - most gorgeous steak with potato rosti. Yummmmm.
The Civic has now changed their way of ordering tickets and you can't look at the seating plan and pick your seats anymore - you just get "the best available" now which is a shame as being able to choose your own seat was great.

Today wasn't fun. There were too many repairs, so I had to leave one for tomorrow, when it's supposed to be done for tomorrow. And the boss was making sarcastic remarks about my slowness again. Because that's really going to help my motivation.

Sarcasm is the refuge of the weak - and of my mum! She discovered it's usage pretty late i the game, but once she caught on to the rules and it's application, sarcasm quickly became her friend, much to my irritation!
Grrr, sister moved into her own house this week - her first official time living elsewhere from the family, England year-long visit not counting. Lots of yelling was involved, in between the lugging of boxes and furniture. It's sad coz the mum-Manda arugements are probably going to be the most pressing memory everyone takes away from the experience!

What a shame Neh - still I guess that anyone moving away from home is a sad time for parents and that is probably why your mum was acting the way she did.
I had to have an x-ray on my shoulder last week, it was still very painful after my fall in February and the physio decided it was time for an x-ray to see what was going on. They suspected an ac joint problem but it turns out that I have arthritis! So no relief from the pain is in sight. And it is so cold here again. We had been getting around 13 - 14 each day which was quite nice, now it is back to 6 or 7 - hail, rain, gale force southerlies, not at all nice.

I have just heard that Stephen Gately from Boyzone has died in his sleep. What a shame. I love Boyzone songs (yeh I know I am a bit old but still......). And I think Stephen was the best singer inthe group.

Wanst his death very sudden and shrouded in suspiscious circumstances? Or am i about a week behind in the news? (the latter is almost always true anyway)
Does anyone else have those foolish, hubrisistic (it's a word!) moments when they roll their eyes at people complaining of having a head cold, and you think to yourself "what's the big deal, you pansies?!". Then the time comes when you yourself have a head cold and BOOM - you remember why it's made out to be such a pain in the neck. Well, that's me right now: sore and sorry, and feeling bad for the above sin!
