Saw this one thre times - including the final performance which was amazing!! Got my grade 1s and 2s into it as well. They are now very protective of Anthony Warlow and David Hobson and won't have a mean word said about either of them. My girls were especially excited when the news of Anthony as Phantom came out - a couple have managed to get their parents to take them. I am working on a whole new generation of fans who can already appreciate his amazing talent! They were stunned by the interview on the Pirates DVD which showed Anthony as himself - they now love him! (As should everyone!) We sent some pictures and letters to the Opera Australia cast and crew for Pirates, with a DVD of a pirate play the kids did, and got back a stunning Pirates of Penzance poster signed by the cast. It was the first time I've cried in front of my grade!! Opera Australia are a sensational bunch for such a magnificent response to a group of kids, and Anthony Warlow is a hero!! (I'm off to settle down now...)

Agreed! Pirates was a great day out though - i suppose one could perhaps say it's more 'enjoyable' on a superficial level than Phantom, simply because it's lovely light-hearted fun. Did i ever mention that i LOVED the set design?? Coz i was done-in simply by the backdrop that was up during intermission!

haha it was funny at the start with the blinking light, i saw it when i first walked in and was like "hey... whats the light" then BAM! lol. pirates was so much brighter than phantom if you get what i mean, the set design was good, the trees stand out in my memory!

Pirates was one of the best recorded things that Warlow has done, although pinafore was good as well. Lauren that is exactly what i thought when i first played the DVD.

For those of you who haven't seen Pirates yet, it'll be on the abc channel this Sunday from 3:00-5:00 (for vic anyway, dunno if this applies to other areas).

Hopefully ABC are on a roll now and keep going until..... ahhhh.
I saw Pirates in melbourne (with Lauren) and her reaction to the lights was the funniest thing.... ahem, anyways, that was my first time seeing Ant live on stage, and it was great, hilarious and it really highlighted his incredible ability to mimic people- i can't watch Pirates of the Caribbean without thinking of the G&S!
The show was so good I ran out and bought it on DVD- and when I found out it had special features I thought I was in heaven!! *sigh*

I don't have it either, but that's just because I never got around to buying it. I should have picked up Jon English's version too!

I didn't really like the Jon English version, possibly because I watched very soon after seeing it live with Ant, although I loved the little show during the overture that featured bits and pieces of G&S.

I liked the Jon English version just because ... I like Jon English ... You can't grow up watching Our House and NOT like Jon English, people! "Try doing THAT with a little white pointed stick!"

No. You just have to answer to Mr. Whippy. *whip*
I think there's still a few PoP vids on YouTube of that production; try looking up I Am a Pirate King. Jon English is the one in the ... purple TIGHTS.

Plus ABC shops have it on DVD, as does my video store (they have a fantastic range of musicals, etc to rent, I'm making them buy OA stuff now!)

You can do a google image search, just type in Anthony Warlow Pirates of Penzance and you will find some photos there - you just have to sort through all the non relevant stuff!!

There's a sex parlour in Adelaide called Down Under.
No, I've never been in it, but I've seen the outside when we drive by. It's a green and gold building.

I did do that exact search and came up with nil! Well except for the cover art which is not quite what I am looking for- I'll try again with hopefully more success second time. Oh I did try all sorts of variations Dx
