I admire all of them for keeping on track; if that ever happened to me ((won't, but if)) I would've rambled and missed the point completely.

I laughed watching that interview on Today when Ant started off on the candles: he was all geared up to explain Phantom's lighting in detail. Wilkins had to gently stop him. *XD*
He must get excited when the opportunity arises for him to say something a bit different instead of recycling the same phrases over and over.

Uhh ... no.
The last time I uploaded Opera Australia footage I got wiped clean, as did the guy who first uploaded parts of Patience. Chances are they're still keeping an eye on YouTube and I don't want to get into another copyright violation.
Ally, have you tried Amazon?

I watched this for the first time over the weekend. Is it just me - or did Anthony really not have much to do? Apart from pulling funny faces that is!!!

The role of the Pirate King has always been a bit limited; it mainly focuses on Frederic and Mabel. But Ant did an okay job for what he was given.

It's true. the only way you can make the Pirate King a main character is to do a Jon English and completely steal the show. I love Jon's version, but it's not exactly a traditional portrayal XD

Jon's just a genius. I still don't have a copy of his version though.

My sister actually owns The Pirate Movie. I picked it up off her shelf one day, looked at it carefully and put it back down. I think not....

To be fair, I should warn you that there are scenes that have Frederic wandering around in nothing but a white loincloth. WHOO! It's hot in here! Ok ummmmm! "I LOVED THE PIRATE MOVIE" It was filmed here in Melbourne, well Loch Ard Gorge/Port Cambell and the Mansion in Werribee to be exact and it starred Christopher Atkins as Frederic (Yum!), Kristy Mc Nicholl as Mabel and also Maggie Kirkpatrick as Ruth (who played Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson in Prisoner)............OMG................................................... I feel............................................................................. OLD! ...I was a child of the 80's ;D

Is it bad that I want to watch that? Because I think it'll be great to laugh and scream at?
Sorry.

Yes, it is that bad ;D I could make no sense of it, other than kind of recognising the odd song. And wondering what the heck happened to Christopher Atkins. As it turned out, not much

That settles it then. Fred, before you visit again, borrow that film from your sister, would you? It's always good to watch something with someone who also hasn't seen it before ((I was a bit nervous when watching Clue because I'd seen it before))

Okey-dokey. I will steal it from her when she's not looking.
Which would be kind of ironic, she's only just found Pirates of Penzance (Jon English version) after someone 'borrowed' it off her about five years ago. Find one, lose one....

Talking about other versions but can anyone remember the one with Linda Rondstat as Mabel and Kelvin Kline as the Pirate King?

ooooh! I have a very vague image of that one in my mind, was that the filmed broadway one?

I've heard of that one, but I haven't seen it. I might need to ask my sister - last time I was visiting her she claimed she has about five different versions. They're probably all on tape though, which is inconvenient for me, considering my VCR has died a painful death...

And Angela Lansbury plays Ruth. It is a very fine version and Linda Ronstadt has a beautiful voice. Kevin Kline is so over the top as the Pirate King and there is a mention of that in the CD cover notes of Ant's early version.

Maybe this time I'll get to see Ant in the role instead of David Campbell - providing I do actually get to go.
Campbell may hit the right note now and again but his Pirate King was somewhat lacking in life.

You have to go, Marie-Cris. There's no way I'm missing it, and it'll much more entertaining if you're there too. Therefore, you'll go if I have to force you!
