Wow awesome stuff. I am going in Nov and we are in the second row in the middle. I am planning to go to the stage door also. Hopefully I will be able to have a similar experience as what you had. Fingers crossed. I'm so happy for you and jealous at the same time. P. S can you show us the picture he drew of his pirate king....

I second the motion for seeing that PK pic of his. Also, did you win a competition or something to get to meet him? That is pretty awesome!

It wasn't a competition, I have friends that work for OA and they were more than willing to help me out. I'll try and get the picture up if I can work it out. But it was a proper meeting, not just waiting at the stage door, he was there for us which was a real honour. We were with him for nearly 3/4 of an hour just talking and exchanging experiences

That sounds awesome shak!
I got to see Pirates last Saturday. Didn't really plan it, was up in Sydney with relatives to take them sightseeing, but managed to sneak away for a bit and got a student rush ticket for $50. So good value and got a pretty good seat too.
It was just great seeing Anthony perform again. He's always such a joy to watch and listen to! Matthew Robinson who plays Frederic was great too. He doesn't have that big operatic voice of David Hobson but it was refreshing seeing a younger Frederic.

Gee shak, you are very lucky! He is an utter gentleman, God bless him!! Pirates was great I had a fabulous week ( bar the pinched nerve and a certain Pirate King shaking his finger at me*thought he was telling me off for seeing the show so many times* but he was telling me off for taking a photo which i didn't it was the guy behind me). Rosemarie Harris who plays Mable was amazing, so amazing my daughter Layla wants to sing like her. Looking forward to seeing it ......again in November!!

Wow - that's Awesome Shakattack....!! He's a True Gentleman indeed!!! You'll have to let us know when you make it on stage at OA (sounds like you have the passion to make it happen) so we can come and support your career as well..
Went to see Pirates last Saturday, and I must admit the whole cast was amazing! But Mr Warlow does manage to steal the limelight as always....(gotta love him!) Will be seeing it again in November, so if anyone is there on the 6th, I'm looking for someone to talk to while I wait at the stagedoor after the show.

My pirate high is still going..... unfortunately I can never hold on to something long enough for it to sustain in a high sense of reality so it all appears as a dream now but I know it was real because I felt it...........and took photos so I wouldn't forget

That'd be fantastic; you're so lucky to be able to chase your dreams, and if you ever do make it on stage with him at the same time - a dream I share but sadly will never be able to make ((my voice will never be ready)) - I hope you'll post up the show details so we can all grab tickets?

It's been a while since the show ended, but I wanted to share that it was really fun! A familiar face ((or two?)) from Phantom was spotted amongst the cast ((I can't remember her name right now, she was the seamstress)), and of course there were changes throughout. Matthew Robinson - who replaced David Hobson as Frederic ((and who actually looked 21 ... sorry, Hobson)) - had a nice voice, maybe not as powerful as Hobson's but it got the job done ((and splendidly so)). I was a bit disappointed in not seeing either Dennis Olsen or John Bolton-Wood as the Major General, but Peter Carroll, who stepped into the General's boots, was okay; had a few moments that I preferred from Olson and Wood, but on the whole he did well as MG.
Throughout the show there were occasional bits of ... I don't know, confetti? Rose petals? Something - drifting down from the rafters. One of the sisters stopped to watch one fall as Frederic was trying to win them over, she almost looked mesmorised by it. There was also a bit of an accident at the back of the stage whereby one of the pirates managed to roll himself completely off the back during Act I, so for some time there those at the back ((including the one who fell off)) were smiling and holding back their laughter.
Mabel! What a voice! Taryn Fiebig is great, yes, and so was Rosemarie Harris! It was so clear and open, I'm so glad they got her to step in ((as well, good luck to Taryn and her endevours!)) ... Did she have an accent? There was definitely something different about her tone ((well, anyone's is, in contrast to Fiebig)) that was just so very lovely.
Suzanne Johnston and Richard Alexander were, as always, brilliant! And I'm sorry for the slight crazy moment, but: I'VE FINALLY SEEN RICHARD ALEXANDER LIVE!!!!!!!!!! God, his voice ... I was most likely melting like butter in my seat ((BTW, to everyone who I didn't get to talk to, hi! I was sitting right behind you all in the second row, dead centre)). And Suzanne, what else can I really say? She was just as lively then as she had been at the Adelaide show, with an extra slab of greatness.
Of couse, I can't forget Angela Brun (Isabel), Amy Wilkinson (Edith) or Tania Ferris (Kate). Three very lovely ladies with very lovely voices. And I can't remember which one it was, but I know one of them was very tall! ((not that that has anything to do with ... well, anything, just a comment)).
Cat-Like Tread was only performed once. What. WHAT?! Last show, you would think the audience would get enthused enough to cheer them on, but no. Ah well. What I was really disappointed in - audience wise - was not enough standing ovations at the curtain call. I know not many in the second row stood up ((aside from the US members in that row, that is)), and a quick glance behind proved that not many in the theatre in general stood. It was the last show! What's up with that?
Can I go without mentioning Warlow? OF COURSE NOT! Vast improvements from when the recording took place ((I should note that that went for everyone)), little bits were added and altered ... possibly also to the costumes, but I can't say anything on that until I dig up the DVD and go through it. Anyway, Warlow, the "often/orphan" phase was hilarious! I'm not really sure how to describe what he did ... "often" involved his hand going round in a circle, and "orphan" was pushing one hand and foot forward, then then others, and so on, with a very cute sob-face.
I'm sorry for my lack of memory on this. Again, on the whole, brilliant performance by everyone and a wonderful weekend in Sydney. I'm sorry I didn't take any photos of US together, I even had the camera and all, but it was great to catch up and have dinner with you girls again ((to everyone else I didn't meet up with, I'm sorry once again, but I hope you had a fantastic weekend too)).

Yay! Good review!
One of the things I liked best about Pirates was how Mabel and Frederic didn't just leap into each others arms.... she was shyer about it. I liked that! I hate the whole see-each-other-and-instantly-fall-in-love thing...

Great review Mar. It was fantastic to see so many US people and I had to laugh that though there was no official group booking, there sure were a lot of us sitting in the same area, namely up the front.

Mar - I belong to a Jersey Boys fan group in America and one of their members went to Melbourne to see Jersey Boys and she commented long and bitterly about the fact that Australian audiences do not give standing ovations! So it's not just the audience at Pirates, it seems to be general. I know that from the many times I have seen Jersey Boys that it is true - people will clap wildly in the seats but won't stand up - including me I am afraid!!! Remember the same at Phantom in Auckland - us few US members stood up and the people behind told us to sit down cause they couldn't see. Apparently American audiences are totally different and give standing ovations all the time.

We Australian's have a tendancy to have the 'tall poppy' syndrome. if you stick your neck out or shine above the rest you're in danger of getting it chopped off. That's why Aussies are supposed to be seen as humble people. Standing ovations only ever come if something supercalafragalistic happens to warrant getting out of your comfy chair. Self promoting is also a big issue

I think it's silly. At least every final show of any production should receive a standing ovation, even if all other shows before it didn't. It's a nice send-off for the performers, the orchestra and everyone behind the scenes and I bet they appreciate it.

I always want to do a standing ovation, but then I get all shy and self-conscious..... I can do it when others are....
