Hello again friends -
It's been announced that they are extending the season of Phantom of the Opera (gosh! who knew it would sell out it's first four weeks and that demand would insist on more shows?!).
Tickets go on pre-sale on March 19 (that's this Monday) for the performances running from September 7 to October 4 2007.
This means that you now have 32 more opportunities to see Anthony!!
Huzzah!

Wait wait wait, whoa whoa whoa!! September THIS year or next? If it's running from this year all the way til October, that's a hell of a long time, after all.

Ticketek show October 4 '07 as last Melbourne performance at the moment but tour dates would probably preclude a further extention (NZ in New Year for one).

That's so odd to see that from Sep 7 th is the EXTENDED season coz my ticket was already booked for Sep 8th 2 weeks ago... so how did that happen? ?? I do hope it was a legit booking; it was with Preferred Seating.

****NEWSFLASH**** The rumour doing the rounds is that Anthony will only be performing as the Phantom for the first 3 months of the performance, regardless of whether it tours or is extended. This is just a rumour, but I've been told by several reputable sources independantly. Perhaps this means that Anthony's finally putting together a new album? Regardless, if this turns out to be false information or if I can get it officially verified, I'll let you all know

Greetings all, My contacts in the industry tell me that the Phantom season will probably be extended to December, which makes it all the more likely that the rumours about Anthony only performing for 3 months are true. I'll be checking www.showbiz.com.au/the_phantom_of_the_opera.aspxtomorrow to see if this is true. Showbiz appears to have struck a deal with Ticketek to pre-reslease additional tickets, so they look like being the best bet to find out. Assuming that my information is correct, which it now appears is more likely the case than not, we can work out how long Anthony will be performing. Taking the absolute worst case scenario of exactly 3 months from the date of the first preview, Anthony should be performing at every show between 19 July and 19 September. I'll let you know more as I find it out... ***UPDATE*** I've just checked the Showbiz site and they are offering tickets and ticket packages up to and including a matinee performance on Sunday December 2nd.

My friend in Brisbane kindly sent me a copy of newspaper below to inform me that he will play the role in January 2008 in Brisbane. I'm not sure how long he will play in Melbone, but at least he'll come back to Brisbane as the phantom in January 2008, I hope... www.yousendit.com/download/M3Brck8wdVU5NVUwTVE9PQ

Thanks for the newspaper, mhoshiko. Here's another radio interview of Anthony and Marina in NZ, if anyone is interested, he talked a little of the tour. It sounds he is willing to bring his own performance of the role to other cities. www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/afternoons/20070320Reeling in the years. The audio archive may be expired very soon. And I'm wondering what brought them to NZ.......

The audio archive may be expired very soon. And I'm wondering what brought them to NZ....... Simple - they were promoting the tour! Although it seems rather early for NZ ticket sales to open, once the show begins rehearsals and performances they won't have the time to go tripping around to other cities. There's a long article in today's Australian newspaper concerning the local musical scene in the near future, which includes revivals of Miss Saigon and Pippin, as well as Phantom (plus the new production of Spamalot). It seems that while the first two will be reworked versions of the originals, Phantom will be a carbon copy of the 1990 production - costumes, sets, chandelier, etc., - because it never occurred to the producers to change anything. (That makes sense, you can't improve on success!) For those who have fond memories of the first season it will be good news, and they won't be able to complain that the revival isn't as good as the original!

Hi, I'm new here - is anyone else going to Melb. to see Phantom?
I'm in Sydney and I'm flying to Melb. in Sept. for just one night to see Anthony do Phantom (taking my husband and daughter with me), it'll be worth every cent!

WELCOME TO UNEXPECTED SONG, JAZZGIRL! * throws sparkles and streamers*
Sadly, no. The air fare and accommodation would bust my budget ((I'm not sure on the price of tickets; who knows?)). Plus I'd have to pay for my mum's airfare, accommodation and ticket too ((she likes him too; not as much as I do!!)), and that'd be impossible. Neh and Cinta are going though, so is Greg.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm probably in your mother's (and Anthony's for that matter!) age group - so I hope you all don't mind and old girl joining your site!
I wish you could go - I wish everyone could see him do Phantom, he will be incredible! Wouldn't it be great if they did a cast recording? Probably never happen - but we fans can live in hope! And you're right it's costing me a small fortune for all three of us to go to Melb. but my daughter loves all kinds of music and is really looking forward to seeing the show - so I couldn't leave her out.
The four of us that are going, will have to give you all our reviews after each show - I hope the others don't have to wait as long as I do to see the show (end of Sept. for me, to be exact!). I have another daughter getting married the week before we go to the show and there was just no way we could go away before her wedding. She say's I'm more excited about seeing Phantom than I am about her wedding! (It may almost be true!)

Nothing wrong with your age group; Warlow is in that age group *sigh* I'm desperately hoping they slap it on DVD, but that's even more of a dream than anything. Neh and Cinta are going in September too; you might see them there. The only thing I ask is that you all enjoy yourselves and bring back Warlow in a sack XD jk; the reviews will do [with a pic if you're extremely lucky enough to snap one))

Ya, Anthony definitely deserves a cast recording!! They really should record him 16 years ago. I've been so disappointed by RUG. T_T
Oh, sorry, enough for my moaning. Wish you all have a great time with the Phantom. I wish I could swim across the ocean to see him.

Thing is, though I'd like one, if you got programs for everyone who asked for one wouldn't that cut the budget? I mean, in Pirates they were $15 a piece, so provided that's the standard rate it'll cost a lot; seeing as it's Phantom, they may over charge.

This is true, and i certainly did think of this as i offered and if you all lived down the street i could easily collect the money for them.... but you don't and one can't send money through the mail so it's probably a very foolish thing to promise! But i just don't want you to miss out on getting a keepsake, ESPECIALLY if you don't live Down Under!

If Miss Saigon is an indicator, programmes will be at least $20

Speakinga so ne who sells programmes regularly, the programmes for the opera seasons range between $15 and $20, and for the ballet between $20 and $25. For "spectaculars" like Phantom the price could easily be as high as $30...
